Very disappointing experience with the lady management during the Pokémon drop. My son was the 2nd kid in line out of hundreds of grown men. We waited patiently and followed the rules we were given. The manager came outside and told everyone to get out of line, which immediately created chaos and hostility. Once the line was disrupted, grown men who appeared to be there to scalp the products pushed toward the front, despite her saying that no one was allowed to line up. My son followed the instructions and did everything he was supposed to do, yet the rules were not consistently enforced. After disrupting what had been a calm and organized line, the manager never came back outside to maintain order. Because of this he wasn't able to get any products when these men were walking out selling immediately. There have been Pokémon drops here before without these kinds of problems. This was extremely chaotic and poorly organized, and it was frustrating to see kids who followed the rules affected by the situation. Management should have had a clear plan and been outside enforcing the rules consistently if they were going to change how the line was being handled. This lady needs training and some common sense. I had not been in a Barnes and Noble in a little while and came here with my daughter to help her pick out some books. She ended up getting three. I spent my time in the financial section browsing through finance books and they had a very good selection. The people working there were kind and nice. Four and a half stars but they are running right up to five. It was a good visit. read more

I was in this area having lunch and waiting to pick up fam from LAX and was trying to pass time. Luckily ran into Barnes & Noble because no where nearby had wifi for me to use my laptop / work. Love that their set up have tables where you can have your laptop screen against a wall (open tables if I'm working is not my thing) The overall store and restrooms are pretty dated :( but it definitely is a good go-to spot if you're needing a place to sit/work. Got a coffee at the cafe (so thankful when B&N has them) and it was a good place to stay before I had to leave for LAX pickup. read more

Awesome selection of books. I came to find a juice recipe book. I have been in the market for a new E-reader. I found a really good one here. Most of the stores would have to order it. The Harry Potter section was large. So many books. stationary journal, objects and stickers were 50% off. I like that this location still has a Starbucks and a comfortable seating area. They have 3D puzzles and games and Lego. Free in a large parking lot. read more

Ok honestly I'm not into books the way most bookworms (my bestie being one) are. But I love the atmosphere. Something about bookstores and coffee shops that relaxes my nervous system. I love how quiet, clean and organized this store is. Parking isn't a problem as there is plenty. Picking up a snack or meal wouldn't be hard either seeing that they have a coffee shop with pastries inside. The customer service is fantastic. You don't have to look too far for a helping hand. My bestie I stopped by on February 3rd and I didn't catch the name of the team member at the register but she was awesome. If she wasn't processing someone's order she was walking along with a customer to assist them with locating a particular book. She did the same with my bestie as well. What the kid inside of me does appreciate, is the other products sold aside from books. The games and decorative items. I would definitely be back to purchase a couple. Barnes and Noble would always be the spot. It's definitely the spot to relax and read. read more

Loved this book store - I was peeking around the Valentine's section and without even asking, an employee passing by let me know if I was interested in the Valentine's Tote bag, she had the last one behind the counter. I wasn't even looking for it specifically but after she mentioned it was the last one, I just had to take a look. It is super cute, so I purchased it. It's my first B&N tote bag and I don't regret buying it! I also walked out with two new books and a frappe, of course! read more

I hadn't been to a Barnes & Noble in years. There aren't that many around any more. Two of the locations I used to go to are no longer there. I wandered in here after shopping at nearby Erewhon. They happened to be having a 25% off everything sale which is great. I found a paperback book from one of my favorite authors. I would have given this place five stars, but my experience here unfortunately was not great. I felt uncomfortable being followed by the loss prevention person, I was with my mom looking at books and the person kept following us and looking in our direction. I loved and love going to this place. I went 3 days ago and things were changed around. It's a welcoming environment from start to finish. Customers are free to lounge and read books. I came with no plans of a specific book to buy, so I browsed for about a half hour, declining any help, but the longer I browsed, the more I started to think I needed some assistance. There was a staff member that I approached and I asked him to recommend books to me. He finished what he was doing and brought me to so many aisles giving me so many great recs for genres I'm interested in. I couldn't buy them all for fear of buying too many and not reading them., so I narrowed it down to 1 book and bought it. The staff is so nice and the ambience is super cozy. The entire store smells like coffee and it's great. Note: I'm not sure if this is a constant thing but they carried Lego sets that Lego no longer sells online, so if you're looking for a niche Lego set, maybe you can find it here! read more

This review is only for the Starbucks inside. I ordered my frap with ease, however it was the taste that threw me off. I ordered a White Mocha frap and it was extremely bad. The entire drink taste was burnt. I should've have went back to ask for a remake but I was in a rush. The people at the counter were nice so I'm sure they wouldn't have minded. The truth is that books are way more affordable on Amazon, BUT I love bookstores and still continue to support brick and mortar. However I went in today around 2:30 and was treated really rudely by the Caucasian sales girl who helped me. I wanted to return a book I had picked up at my local Barnes & Noble earlier that morning after discovering I already had it. When I passed this store by chance I thought "perfect" I can run in and return it. The sales girl told me I couldn't return the book because it was the same day and I would have w to go back to the store I had purchased it at. I honestly had never hear of this policy and found it rather stupid so as an automatic reaction I replied "seriously" and she almost mockingly and definitely irritatedly said "yeah, seriously" and pushed the book back at me. No, "sorry for the inconvenience" or "unfortunately, that's store policy" nothing. I am not one to use the race cars but I couldn't help but notice that she was much friendlier to the white clientele than she was with me, a young Hispanic girl in a city like Manhattan Beach which we all know is predominantly white. Maybe I should just save money and use Amazon for my book addiction from now on. read more

Stopped into this B&N location with our son and we had a great time. Good layout to this location. Nice displays and pretty well organized. Our little guy had a great time in the kids section which had great decor, plenty of areas for him to enjoy, and a great selection of items he was in to in addition to one's we were looking for (potty training, etc). Service was good but not excellent, looked like one staff member was training a new employee and they both seemed a bit overwhelmed. However eventually we were able to get help and had a better experience. read more

This is a nice store and just enjoyable to hang out. Sits right on Rosecrans - safe environment, and great selection of books, of course! As far as books go they are well stocked with easy to find labeled sections. They have a vast variety and a wide range of authors, all genres and beautifully set up with a nice array of displays showcased throughout. The store is well organized, well-lit, clean, and spacious. Also, there are a variety of seating areas. Super friendly and knowledgable staff - always helpful and kind! Everyone is caring and insightful and gives impressive recommendations based on your tastes or goals. Kudos to the staff for professional, knowledgeable and friendly customer service. They also make ordering books easy. You can get anything you need and pretty fast. A nice browsing atmosphere with other book lovers. Some of my favorite big names surround this store: REI, Trader Joe's, and Old Navy. There's also a BevMo, Office Depot, True Religion Jeans, Mother's Market & Kitchen, Il Fornaio, and a few others. SERVICE Good service - no matter what the company means to me at the end of the day - is always a plus in my book, hence my rating. We must have had five different staff members ask if we were okay and if we needed help finding anything in our short visit here. MY FAVORITE PART... My girls being able to *easily* find the book they wanted as a reward for having a great week in school before testing began. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... This store happens to be my neighborhood store. And there are few places to buy children's toys and books these days. I like to support my neighborhood and avoid Amazon, but to be honest the prices can be outrageous. It's marked as suggested retail price and Barnes And Noble makes no attempt to put any specials. Even with my reward points the prices are crazy high. As much as I want to support my neighborhood stores, I really don't have too much of a choice but to do Amazon . This is a nice bookstore with very friendly employees. The store itself is large and has a Starbucks Cafe inside. The only thing I wish they'd improve is price matching their own online prices. It's sometimes less expensive online, but then shipping charges apply unless you spend a certain amount. So I end up just buying what I want in the store. During the holidays, they have a gift card promotion which is the perfect time to stock up on them for gifts or for yourself. Although a small, one-story location, I found all the books I needed. The store was clean, organized, and I appreciated the fun bits and key info that are written on the shelfs about certain books. What stood out was an associated named Sarah or Sara. I was talking to my friend about a book that I could not find and I assume they overheard me and came out of nowhere to hand me the book. Caught me by surprise but I greatly appreciated their effort to go and look and deliver the book to me. It was a sweet gesture. I've been to almost every Barnes and Noble in LA and Orange County and I can definitively say that the staff here are some of the rudest I've ever met. About as rude as the Barnes and Noble at the Americana (though the Americana staff have to deal with tourists at the Americana) I know I've got a speech impediment and I know I'm not fantastic at stringing a sentence together but Jesus Christ they make it so hard to communicate or ask questions to find what I'm looking for. I hate when the books I'm hunting for wind up being at this store because I know I'm gonna have a bad experience despite knowing exactly what I'm getting and where it is. Nice size single level footprint. Brick & mortar new book bookstores are a dying breed but this location seems to be doing well. It always has that busy feel with customers coming and going. People everywhere standing or sitting, focused on the book or magazine in their hands. It's easy to get lost in and lose track of time. The checkout line always has folks there so that means people are buying and not just reading and that's a good thing. The last thing you want is the book store that turns into a pseudo public library. Gotta make money to stay open. This location keeps a nice selection of books on clearance and/or discounted to sort through. There's the shared coffee shop off to the side with tables full of people reading, writing and drinking their drinks. Every so often you'll hear one of the workers remind everyone that tables are for coffee shop paying customers. read more

This is a great bookstore, a dying industry with no more Crown Books, Walden Bookstores, Borders... it's good to see this brick and mortar retail book store still around. The location is very good, and parking is very easy. There's a big parking lot they share with Old Navy, Pier One, REI, Trader Joes and other stores. It's central to so many other surrounding retail stores (Staples, Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco) and restaurants (Flemmings, Il Fornaio, McCormick's, Macaconi Grill, Houston's, etc.) in the immediate area, and just drive up/down Rosecrans for so many places to go and things to do as well as it being right off the 405 freeway exit ramp to jump off and on conveniently. Book stores are great. Their magazine rack is robust. They have some bargain priced books, also offer CD's and DVD's too. There is something for everyone, and also has a children's section. The bathroom is accessible and clean ('tho if you want to read a Barack Obama joke, go into the 1st men's stall and read it on the back of the door) Overall we need to support places like this, it's a convenient location to find reading material and not everything should be downloaded to digital readers or ordered on Amazon or websites. Although it's a chain, it's still local business that services the South Bay. Where else can you browse, preview and loiter. It's a great place to pick up impulse gift items, novelty books and stuff to read. It's one of those places if you don't support 'em now, if/when they fold up and you end up missing 'em, it's due to the lack of financial support that probably was the downfall. I always love picking bookstores as central meeting hubs to converge too, so that way if some are running early or come late, there's something for those on time or early to do in the meantime, such as read a magazine. They have a Starbucks inside, with lots of seating along with coffee and snacks to meet someone like in those blind date / online dating situations too. read more

A slowly disappearing fixture and sign of the times in our society. You just can't find many bookstores now with everything going virtual or electronically. Barnes and Noble still has a few of their stores and this location is a typical one with a large expansive assortment of books in just about any subject matter. They still have the coffee shop inside of the store but the seating is very much limited or in other locations taken away. It's still a treat to go in and browse the books in an air conditioned quiet environment to escape the daily grinds of the routine. I love the section that they have near the front where many of the books are discounted and every so often find something interesting to take home at a great price. They have a customer service counter located in the middle of the store where you can request any assistance to finding any book or related item. I'm a book addict - I'll never go nook (sorry B&N) or kindle. For me, hanging out in the Barnes & Noble is like a little piece of heaven. This location in particular is my favorite because we work with them when fundraising with the Scouts (and some years, with schools). They are a pleasure to work with, so supportive of our fundraising efforts and it's always a great opportunity for us. The staff that work here are all knowledgeable, helpful, and resourceful. The security men are both so warm and friendly. The food selection at their Starbucks is tasty and filling - their desserts are SO tempting! I was impressed with their selection of other items - toys, etc. that they carry now. The store always looks clean even after hours of non-stop crowds trampled through during the holiday week. They do a great job of straightening up after a rush. I love to just wander through the store with a hot Starbucks drink of any kind. While my kids are members of the kid birthday club, I keep telling them I won't join if it's a club I have to pay for. Then the discount I could get doesn't seem real because I wouldn't use it enough to make it worth it. read more

Specifically for Starbucks worker. Yesterday I brought my reusable cup to starbucks and ordered an iced tea. The man working poured my tea from a plastic cup into my cup and the proceeded to throw the plastic cup into the trash. I asked him if he had used a plastic cup to fill my reusable cup and he said "yes, have a good day." in a snarky tone. I said I don't understand why you would do that if i brought in my cup, it defeats the purpose. and he responded again with "have a good day'. I'm so disappointed!! I visit this location often because it is close to my house, giving it two stars because at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement surrounding George Floyd and Breanna Taylor's death, this location made an entire row (equivalent to about 4 bookcases) dedicated to Black authors/books. Now that section has been reduced to 1 bookcase which lets me know that the initial display was strictly performative which is disappointing but not surprising. read more

Don't get me wrong the employees are helpful when you need them but the selection of books to be helped with is pretty pitiful in comparison to the other locations. If you are looking for a certain book not just aimlessly browsing make sure to call ahead because they may not have it. If you ARE going just to aimlessly browse like I do, I suggest just going to one of the other locals, much more fun/better selection. read more
