I absolutely love visiting Barnes & Noble--it's one of my favorite places. The store is very well organized, which makes it easy and enjoyable to find any book you're looking for. One of the things I enjoy most is that there's a Starbucks inside, so I can sip on a coffee while browsing through my favorite books. They also have a nice selection of books in Spanish, which I truly appreciate. It's a space that inspires me and is also perfect for my kids. Every Saturday at 2 p.m., they host a storytime event for children, and sometimes they even have fun LEGO-building activities, which my kids really enjoy. Barnes & Noble is a place where my children and I can share our love for reading in a cozy and welcoming environment. All the service is always the most nice and welcoming. read more

Stood in-line outside for 45 minutes before open with a bunch of other customers who also wanted cards (actual collectors excited for the new Pokemon set, not scalpers). Employees watched us wait out in the cold and when we finally were let inside, they told us nothing shipped. I understand there isn't an obligation to tell customers, but I've seen a lot of reviews stating that Barnes and nobles employees are purposefully rude so people won't come for cards. I really don't come here enough and I always forget how much I love it! I I showed up to buy the latest Stray Kids album and to see if there is a book I may want to purchase. I didn't find a book but definitely found the album! The staff were very kind, helpful and patient as I roamed the store. The children's section is well organized and clean. The size and selection of books is impressive. The cafe tends to have a nice selection of pastries/treats and a good selection of coffee. Large selection of fiction books organized by genre. I could have easily spent 4 hours here !!!! The person sitting at the help desk was very friendly and helped me find the specific book I was looking for. I really enjoyed looking through the front section at all of non book items they sell such as calendars, planners, candles, pens, bags, etc... I saw several stickers on books for a buy one get one free as well as discount stickers on several books. Also, there is a Starbucks located inside!! Terrible customer service. I've spent hundreds of dollars here in the last year and when I accidentally bought the wrong version of a bluray they refused to exchange it for the 4k version because the plastic wrap had been opened. I have a very expensive movie habit and this will be the last purchase I ever make at B&N. read more

Terrible customer service taints this store's reputation. They have a mixed bag of staff. Some of their staff who work the floor don't seem to have the apptitude for basic customer service. I approached the person at the information desk located in the middle of the store since she was not assisting anyone else, and asked if they have additional stock for the item I wanted to purchase for a gift- the box was bent. She briefly glanced at the item and notified me that all of their stock was on the floor. That's not common knowledge for customers and that is why I asked. While I appreciate that information, I did not appreciate the irritable tone she used to convey that information, nor her shortness. I guess I was bothering her by making her do her job? I've worked c/s for decades, so I treat people in the service industry with respect. There is no excuse for rudeness to others and certainly not to a consumer. She may benefit from looking into other jobs that don't require customer-facing skills, in fact, B&N would mutually benefit from that as well. read more

I had come in for an exchange 5 days past the 30 days but because it was bought within the Holiday extension, I should've gotten the exchange. The woman at the check out asked if I opened the puzzle I was trying to exchange and I said no. She proceeded to open all 4 of the stickers and was struggling with it (she even said something under her breath about how hard it was to open) so she should've known it wasn't opened. She checked that none of the little bags inside holding the pieces weren't opened either. Then she looks at the receipt and said she can't exchange it because it's passed 30 days. She opened it already so I can't give it as a gift anymore like I was planning to. I would've been stuck with it. I called the store later and the manager Selena made everything right. She was so nice about it and apologized on behalf of the cashier. read more

Great place to relax and take time out to enjoy some new books and plenty of inventory to research, we feeling the need. I go here twice a week , almost use as a second library . Makes me feel that people are always willing to explore something more in life . Even if it's just a hang out , or getting away and keeping my interest in arms reach. It's a great store for the most part and have always enjoyed my visits. But this last time, I couldn't let go the sad irony of waiting very patiently in line to check out with 1 cashier and around 10 people in line, and watching multiple people walking out of the store with merchandise without paying. Yes, shoplifters casually walking out of the store with alarm reminders activating and nobody seemed the least bothered by it. One guy who appeared unhoused with an unchecked oversized backpack he obviously used in his pilfer. And another separate BMA guy who looked like he could be anyone's father wearing a 49ers jersey walked out without paying. Has it really come down to this? read more

I love this Barnes&Noble location. It's huge, meaning they have such a great variety of products and books of many genres. The store is always neat and tidy. The staff is also so nice, pleasant, cheerful, and helpful. They have great customer service. I recently moved to the Bay Area from Fairfield, and the Barnes&Noble near me now is nice but not the same. The Fairfield store has such a great selection of journals, so much better than the store I am now closest to. I definitely recommend this location. Outstanding customer service. Took my dying nook in with questions about why I couldn't download a pre-ordered book. Andrea was very nice and helpful but hit a roadblock. Joanna to the rescue. These two girls, working together, asked the right questions, their knowledge and professionalism was outstanding. Conclusion my nook wouldn't accept the new upgrade. No pressure at all from the girls but did buy an upgraded Nook. This was my third Nook and Andrea, because it was an upgrade, found a coupon. Yeah! I don't know what it is about rain, but it just makes me more defiant about staying indoors. I will make myself go out and do something. Ironically, I end up in Barnes and Noble...because well...it's raining...and I really don't feel like trekking in mud. At least I half achieved my goal, right? mmm...probably not. The reason I like going to bookstores is that I feel like they're heading towards extinction. (Kinda like the FAO schwarz toy store in NY, glad I had a chance to play the big piano one more time because it closed down the following year.) I do like the smell, the feel, the emotion, the nostalgia, the excitement that books bring. Digital downloads/online shopping are just as great for instant gratification, but sometimes it's the effort of just going out and losing yourself and buying something you may or may not need. So why support a chain and not go to an old/used/bookstore? I like old books too...but the smell?...it depends. It's not very nostalgic picking up a nondescript book with questionable stains that my innocent mind can dismiss as coffee... but because I'm quite familiar with other types of stains, my sinister mind suspects other things. I wander off to find a book about diseases and pathophysiology, because sometimes I get tired of looking at my computer screen or phone for information and I actually want to highlight or annotate a page with an actual highlighter or pen in my hand. After finding two books, I suddenly remember that I wanted to read Princess Bride by William Goldman which I couldn't find in the fiction section but found in Fantasy. I was in no rush so I didn't mind finding it myself. Then I remembered Cary Elwes wrote a book, "As you Wish" and I convinced myself that I really wanted to buy that book as well. In trying to find the book, I got sidetracked by kits and tabletop catapaults then the gift section filled with leather-bound journals and stationary... and I'm reminded of how one can easily spend 4 hours "studying" in Barnes and Nobles. A friendly staff member noticed me holding 3 books and asks me if I need any help. I suddenly remembered that I was looking for "As you Wish". She asks her coworker to help me while she takes the books I have up front. "As you Wish...the novel or the Princess Bride one?" He asks. "Princess Bride," I reply. "Inconceivable!" He says and we laugh. He finds me the book and hands it to me. I got my book, just as I wished. read more

Just left the store today 7/3. Received amazing customer service from the ladies that were working. One worked at the cafe and she was very nice! There's one was one lady in a yellow sweater and brown hair! I was too shy to ask for her name. But I should've. She was so busy and helpful. Every time we looked away she was helping with different cash registers and help desks including the cafe. They were all super stars there and deserve a raise! The 5 stars I would've given to the bookstore employees and the barista at the cafe are weighed down by the very grumpy cafe employee mopping the floor. She stopped mopping and stared at us and other customers who came as we ordered and waited, like we were in her way. If she wants to shut down business while she mops that part of the cafe, that would be better than scaring away customers. My 6yo kid felt as intimidated as I did by the glares and asked if we could leave two minutes after sitting down, so we did. Selena was helping a friend and I with some Legos before Danielle came from the back to hopefully see if there was any other sets but unfortunately there was not. My overall experience here today was top notch. They were both extremely friendly and very helpful. Danielle was able to answer question after question and even give us options for the online order just in case. Looking up a obscure book series and finding it even after we gave her the wrong spelling of the name. The whole time she was being very considerate and making sure we were being tending to. Went in for blu-rays, was not-so-subtly accused of shoplifting and followed around the store for about an hour after placing a blu-ray, which I ultimately purchased, very visibly in my back pocket, with no intention or effort to conceal it. The manager asked me to remove it, which I did, and then made several intentional passes past my friends and I (who are poc) and, at one point, loudly told her coworker to call for backup. Security tailed us all the way to the check out, which I found to be excessive and unnecessary. I found the whole experience to be frustrating as I doubt anyone with the intention of shoplifting would spend nearly two hours browsing. read more

TLDR: Employees don't follow mask guidelines. Asked for help today at the customer service desk and the woman who was initially helping me first let her mask go under her nose while talking to me, then took a call and took off all of a sudden without any explanation. Some guy came to finish answering my question and while speaking to me, completely removed his mask from his nose AND mouth. Wound up stopping him mid-answer and walking because I just did not feel safe after that. Never got my book obviously. What is so hard about keeping a mask on while talking? read more

I recently asked someone for assistance in finding a book, and she was very prompt, courteous, and took me all the way to the book herself. I love coming to Barnes and Noble and looking around. We came here on a Labor Day weekend and not a lot of people were browsing the store. I was able to walk down the aisles with no one in the way. Came to check out their clearance section and markdowns were additional 30%, which is not their best additional percentage. At times, it can be up to 50% or 60% off. Towards the end of the year. Their selection of books are endless and have friendly staff to greet you and assist you, if need be. The display of their books are organized and well maintained. They do dust their shelves, as I have not seen any dust, yet :) Great place to come if you're looking for another great book to read or just to hang out and check out what's new in the clearance area or new on the shelves. read more

In the past, way back in the days, I used to be a fixture at a B&N bookstore. I love this place and found that I could still easily get into trouble losing track of time here. So many things to feed your mind and soul but so little time and mula oh well... This time around I just made a quick pit-stop and headed straight for the Information booth and asked for their assistance. A nice lady walked me over to the aisle where I grabbed a few ASVAB books for my kid. This store was bright, cheery, tidy and clean. And yes you can indulge in a cup of Joe and desserts. With Borders gone in Vacaville, this is the only large bookstore in the area (there are used bookstores and great libraries in the area)! The staff at the cafe are warm and courteous and do their damnedest to keep up with orders when there are a slew of customers. Be patient with them, they only have one espresso machine! I was sad to see that the removed the train set from the children's area. :( It was always a hit with my 2 year old when he isn't interested in looking through books. There are a couple employees that could use either learn how to work in customer service or be transferred to stock and work in the back. Jerrica is one of those employees. I don't think I've ever encountered an employee sigh and complain so many times during an exchange in front of a CUSTOMER! I came in to do an exchange for a purchase I had just picked up the day prior and she sighed and rolled her eyes so many times. She didn't 'how may I help you?' when I came up to her register, didn't ask what was wrong with the book, everything seemed to be a bother to her. Is it a theme at all B&N stores to have bathrooms that don't look like they're being checked hourly? The female bathroom is always questionable. Stalls out of toilet paper, toilet paper/covers on the floor; I know it isn't the employees fault there are nasty females that don't know how to use these items properly, but they should at least have some kind of system to check/clean since it is a popular store in the area. This store could use more chairs set up throughout the actual book sections; the tables in cafe fill up quickly as well as the kids area. Don't get caught sitting on the floor looking through books; they don't allow it! I come here about once a week looking for new workout books or magazines. Although I'm all for the tablet and not having to turn pages... there's something about looking and holding a book or magazine in your hands.... I do have to say though that book stores are not stocking up as much as they would have back in the days. Its hard to find new things. A few things that I have noticed which is why I knocked out a start are; 1) their bathroom isnt always clean or stocked. 2) books and magazines aren't always kept organized and up to date. I've been there a few times where a magazine said keep on display till ??/??/???? and it was passed that display date and was still on display. other than that all good. read more

The staff, a handful of them (starting with a cashier to managers)--and I regret I only got one of their names, Danielle [I hope it's correct], went more than the extra mile to resolve my issue. I love this place. I always find myself heading over this way when I have some free time. My kids love this place. The staff is very helpful and if you get close or glance at the nook display, someone always pops up to see if I need any help finding something regarding the nook. The booksellers and cafe employees are always so friendly and nice. The store is usually neat and clean and the employees do their best to put books and magazines away that are left in the cafe area. I haven't needed to ask for help in finding a book. I usually just go there and browse. Whenever I'm in the kids section, a bookseller will approach me and ask if I need help finding something. Which I think is very nice of them. What I noticed about Barnes and Noble is that when there is a long line at the cash registers, the cashiers will call for additional cashiers to help ring up the customers. It definitely makes the line go faster and it makes a good lasting impression. 5 stars for me. read more

I have only been shopping consistently at this particular Barnes & Noble location since March of this year but it's fantastic. Whether I'm looking for a new book, DVDs/Blu-Rays or even Board Games, every associate I've met in this store is helpful & friendly. The store is always very clean and since COVID-19 regulations have started, they have been fantastic about following them and informing customers. I love their well-stocked Board Game section as well as their POP! Figures section, which is one of the biggest out of any store in the area. read more

I wanted to share my experience at the Barnes & Noble store in Fairfield, California this morning. I went in to purchase "Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing From Life", which I expected to be in stock after checking the BN website last night. At first there was no one at the information desk. Then when the woman arrived to help, she couldn't find the book in her computer. I said that I could look it up online. She asked for the ISBN number. While I was looking it up I got to listen to her set the sales goals (memberships, apparently) over her headset. I had to interrupt her to get her attention, I gave her the number at which point she warned me that the last time the book was received was 2017, but that she could order it if it was not available. When we arrived at the section, I found two copies: $18 and $20. Online, on the Barnes & Noble website, the price is $16. I asked if they could price match. I was told no, but I could buy the book on the site and wait "15 minutes or so" and "pick it up". The book I had in my hand. I went in today to buy a book that they had two copies sitting on their shelf, since 2017. I knew going in, that Amazon was at least two dollars cheaper. I was willing to pay more to support a brick & mortar business. It was inexplicable that this (clearly a) leader in the store could not price match the BN site. That the focus for her and your team was "membership" as actual sales walk out the door. read more

Been coming here for years! This used to be a study hangout for me back in college. Fast forward 10 years-ish, and now I come here for pleasure reading (way less stress than when I was in college lol). Sometimes I'll just grab a coffee and a stack of magazines. Other times I'll hit up the "favorite fiction" shelf, where I've found many gems. Another great spot to peruse is their extensive travel section. I've successfully planned several US and international trips with the help of these travel books! Lastly, they have a great board game/various game/collectible section, where I've found lots of cool gifts and stocking stuffers over the years.
