Interesting place. I drove by a couple of different times and the place is always packed. The place is right on the water and the seafood is ok. The real stars seem to be the burgers, hand packed and cooked on a grill behind the bar. I didn't have one but they were big and juicy looking. I've never been to a seafood place where the seafood wasn't the star. With a change of expectations I probably would have given this place a better rating. I just expected great seafood. read more

I have a hard time with Barny's! It really is a a burger joint. Burgers are very good, everything else is just ok. I have eaten here dozens of times over the years and I have learned to stick with what they do well. Burgers are worth the wait. The rest of it not so much. salad with bad lettuce more than once. Love this place and their burgers. My personal favorite is getting a burger covered in their cheddar sauce so good plus some on the side for dipping my frys. Unfortunately I love the burgers so much I haven't tried much else but I'm sure I wouldn't he disappointed. Plus you gotta love the unlimited peanuts and the shells covering the floors. Would never guess that this place was in Rumson - had to wait probably 30 mins at 1:30 on a sun afternoon but it was worth it. I ordered off the sun brunch menu (i'm a sucker for french toast) and couldn't believe the amount of food I got. They brought a huge croissant (with butter and jelly) first, and a bunch of fresh fruit (apple, grapes, strawberry, melon), i got free iced tea, free mimosa, and could only manage to eat half the french toast - it also came with some wonderfully crispy bacon. I tried my friends' fried zucchini since they were raving about it, and have to agree, quite good! I'd certainly go back so I could order off the non-brunch menu as well. read more

Asked a coworker of mine where to go in the area that had a great vibe, reasonable prices, and where I could watch the Yankee game. This was the first place that he suggested. The view is awesome and the detail that went into making the ambiance a sailors dream is very cool. The couple that we went with ordered Mai Tais and after trying a sip, I must say, it was pretty darn good. I started off with the deep fried oysters and was very satisfied---they were perfect crispiness on the outside and tender, NOT chewy in the inside---close to the best deep fried oysters I've had. Thought they were kind of known for their burgers but was kind of disappointed with mine---the burger was really nothing special. Husband said he liked the crab cake sandwich and he did clean his plate so I'm guessing he enjoyed his meal. The couple we went with had a burger and philly cheese steak and no complaints on their end. Service was top notch. All in all, we loved the place and we will be back! read more

Always a stop here when visiting my buddy in the area. I never wait long for a drink or pay too much. The bar takes up the entire center area here and it works. There is an outdoor area for smoking and in the summer games like beer pong are going on. And don't forget...BUCK HUNTER!! MY GOD! One of the best burgers I've had. The place was packed to capacity and it was easy to tell why. You might have to wait a little for prime time with a larger party, but you'll be fine if you want to sit at the bar or hi-top. read more

Cool place, great view, hole in the wall...I got the famous burger I had read about on yelp....it was decent, but not insanely good. Had two pieces of "grizzle" in it that I did not dig. The bun and cheese sauce were both good, though. It was fun to watch them make the burgers on the grill behind the bar. Next time i will try some seafood, because the Manhattan Clam Chowder I had was very good. The service was fast paced, and friendly when they had time to be! haha! Barnacle Bill's is possibly the best thing on the eastern seaboard. You throw peanut shells on the floor while drinking the best long islands (knock you on your ASS) and the view of the Navesink is great. read more

Someone told me this place has the best cheeseburgers in NJ, so I went to check it out. What a cute little place! Peanut shells cover the floors, I like that. I had a drink at the bar then I got to sit in a window seat, looking out at the water on a sunny Saturday afternoon drinking wine and eating fried zucchini sticks with delicious horseradish sauce. The burger was pretty darn good but of course my expectations were through the roof, I had mine with American cheese on a big kaiser roll with raw onion and mayo. love this place! in town from Chicago and my boyfriend took me here! The atmosphere is amazing. the energy is amazing and the food is amazing! The only thing that lacked was the bathrooms. It was a busy night so they most likely didn't have time to keep up with the traffic. But everything else was so good that i got passed it! I don't know how good the food is a Barnacle Bills. OK, thats a lie I have had other things. But when I walk in, I don't need a menu. I want steamers and a cheddar Bacon Burger. If I'm alone a small steamers (sometimes even a large only $4 more) and a Cheddar Bacon Burger. Share a side of well done fries (believe me, you won't have room for a whole order). Just the best steamers and really good broth (real steamer eaters sip the brother after, its like fish soup). Those of you from NYC will understand, the burgers make 5 guys look small. They are are Jackson Hole sized, and they cook them on a grill behind the bar. Cheddar Bacon is awesome. Cheddar "sauce" is poured on. Very homey place, great view of the Navesink river. Been here many a times throughout the years. Whether I was single or with the family this place always had/has something to offer. It's a great place to bring the kids from the parent perspective because its loud! Don't come here think u and a date are going to sit candlelight in the corner and whisper sweet nothing's! NOT! It loud and great to bring the kids! Done. The food is fair, not great and not bad but fair. The burgers are big and love the pickle they come with. Can do without the chips though. I love the steak fries, wife hates them, but oh well. She enjoys the onion rings, lightly breaded and real onion, very different from any other place. Service is quick, which from a diner with three kids is great! All those complaining about people bringing kids, go somewhere else, this is not just a bar but a local family Resturant. Great food, fast friendly service and a phenomenal view. Reminds me of my favorite restaurant on Cape Cod. We started by sharing house salad, fried zucchini and New England chowder (not as creamy as I like but still good). Pork Roll & Cheese sandwich and Swiss burger followed, very good. great location. i came to check out the burger. i heard it was great. it is big . it is juicy, but if ordered withouttoppings, the beef has no flavor. also, i don't know why some restaurants insist on hard rolls for their burgers. please consider soft hamburger buns. the sweet potato fries were the best ever and i would return just for the sweet potato fries , but i will probably order the phili cheese steak instead of the burger. read more
