Another terrific meal last night here-Kathy was our waitress, and she was great. Friendly but not intrusive, right there when needed without hovering, just able and capable. Burrata/tomato special was tasty, the dumplings could have been crispier and the dough thinner. Generous and flavorful filling. The pork chop Milanese was beautifully presented, the bone properly trimmed, poking out from under the salad topping. Tasty. The Tavern burger was also very good, Wagyu and brisket blend, cooked as rare as I asked. The key lime cheesecake was a nice mix of sweet cream balanced by the bright citrus. read more

We were seated promptly and service was friendly, fast and efficient. My chowder was quite good and my wife enjoyed her dumplings. The entrees arrived soon after the appetizers were finished. My short ribs were huge and very tender, no knife required. The red wine demi-glace was perfect. My wife loved her hanger steak with chimichurri sauce. Her fries were worth my stealing some. We celebrated my husband's birthday at Victory Park this past week. We ordered the dumplings, eggplant meatballs, and burgers. Everything came out amazing, and they were some of the best burgers we've ever had! For dessert we had the brownie sundae, and our wonderful server Joey recommended getting it with the salted caramel ice cream -- it was delicious! First time here and wasn't sure what to expect but as you can see from the stars, I loved it! The staff is super friendly and both gave us enough time and were prompt at the same time. We ordered the tuna tower, lobster risotto, and eggplant meatballs. Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and nothing was particularly heavy or oily. I also got a strawberry cucumber smash and an espresso martini. The smash was a bit light on the alcohol and the martini was a bit watery--I don't think it was espresso, but coffee. RUMSON: EXCELLENT is the only way to describe our visit to Victory Park Tavern! Oh, and they allow leashed dogs! From the food, to the drinks, to the service and atmosphere, you are going to have a special experience here. Chef Pete makes exquisite seasonal American cuisine and there is something for everyone from autumn pumpkin bisque, pork dumplings, the impossible burger, and lobster sliders, and so much more! Dogs are allowed at the outdoor tables in front and on the side of the building, both with views of the Navesink River and Victory Park. Being on the corner of a main road through Rumson, it can be a bit noisy from vehicles, but it did not bother us. Heaters will be available for when the temperature drops. They are only open for dinner and get busy fast, so we recommend going early to get a table. A great place to go any day and especially for an exceptional night out. read more

Finding a great place to eat that follows local social distancing guidelines is such a hassle these days. Either you usual places are still closed or have only take out. One thing that's good is being forced to try new places that you may have no even knew existed like....(enters the scene) ..Victory Park Tavern. Ok, I live over 40miles away and I was invited here by a friend who lived locally; She had always wanted to come here. So I can't take all the credit for eating here. It was a typical hot day, no rain thankfully so we ate in peace. It's been a while since I have a watermelon salad and it felt like thing to eat with the weather being the way it was. I already viewed the menu prior to arrival and i thought I was going to get the roasted chicken until I saw the Shrimp and Crab dish. The waitress mentioned that it was really good, it sounded good so I went with that instead. They were not skimping on the crab meat folks. I don't think I have had Tagliatelle pasta before but I quite enjoyed this variety. Whatever sauce they included in the dish was on the money as well. It was really savory. My friend got the Lobster pasta. That was good too but I preferred my dish. I literally enjoyed everything from my drink (Watermelon martini?), to the watermelon salad to my entree. What a great place. Classic bar. There were no available seats at the bar. The bartender Kevin came out from behind the bar to take our order. The pickle martini was different and terrific (if you like pickles). Dinner was amazing. Pecan crusted bacon on the wedge salad was sooo good. Tuna on homemade chips was fresh and flavorful and the lobster risotto was over the top. Dessert we had expresso Martinis with a appley bread pudding. Servers were spot on and the only thing was there was I think we ordered too much! The 40 minute drive was well worth it and we will be back soon. read more

We came as a group of 5 for my dads birthday dinner. We were sat in a back corner and it was nice and quiet. I loved the atmosphere here. I started with a dirty kettle one martini with blue cheese olives which was so great I had to get a second. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive, and even had the owner come over to talk to us a few times about the dishes. Appetizers: The meatballs were fantastic, but just know to expect eggplant meatballs, they aren't the same texture and normal meatballs but still lots of flavor and a great vegetarian option! The watermelon salad was super fresh, colorful and refreshing. I would definitely recommend the tuna tower as an appetizer. It was served with waffles chips for scooping which I thought was a unique touch that really enhanced the dish. The burrata was out of this world! So so so fresh and melted in your mouth. The mac and cheese was very good too, but the other appetizers really wowed us. Entrees: The pork milanese was great, but my dads came out slightly under cooked which was upsetting, especially because raw pork is so dangerous. The waitress apologized and brought out a fresh new pork chop very quickly that was cooked to perfection. The crispy chicken sandwich was also good, but basic. The star entree was definitely the scallops. I would never have thought to pair scallops and corn, but it really worked well together! Overall we had a good experience here and I would recommend this place to all my friends and family. Just make sure you check your meat is cooked properly before eating. read more

So goes another make over of the old What's Your Beef Rumson bastion and not a bad job this time around. New windows added up front in bar and restaurant brightens up the space considerably. Also the front of the bar opens up onto the sidewalk allowing an open air environment, rather cool for sure. But, the real attraction here is a new highly qualified chef who is turning out some delicious food. Walking by the kitchen I could not help notice him in the mix sweating up a storm, which is a good thing as he is hands on to say the least. My family frequents Victory Park in Rumson on a regular basis. Victory Park is advertised as per se, " as a cozy neighborhood spot, and a good place for family and friends." Although this has been a true statement in the past, I would dispute this statement as of this evening. My family made reservations to dine at Victory Park Tavern Sunday evening. Our family was taken to our table by the hostess. As we were ready to sit, the hostess decided this table was not a "fit" for our family. Upon getting situated at a different table, our 21 month old daughter fussed a bit when her foot became stuck in the table seat that we brought along with us. We quickly distracted her as to not disrupt other patrons at the restaurant. A friendly waitress whom has served us in the past, watched and smiled. Our daughter settled in and was NOT screaming, crying, or misbehaving, and even if she were, there would have been an appropriate manner in which to address this situation. The hostess suddenly came over to our table and informed our family that she has it on "record" that our two children cry out and disturb their customers, she followed that up with...if your child cries out, please take her outside. I would like to first express, we have one child not two, and we were accused of having "our children" disrupt a so called "family" establishment. I would also like to mention, BEWARE... Victory Park Tavern is taking notes in reference to the behaviors that families display while dining in their restaurant. Also be aware that their notes are not correct! Think twice about dining at Victory Park Tavern ... do you feel comfortable frequenting an establishment in which staff take notes about your family? Please also be aware of how the staff speaks to your family, it was unprofessional to speak negatively in front of our daughter. After experiencing this hostile and unpleasant environment at a so called "family" restaurant, our family decided to leave this establishment as at this moment we knew this was no longer an establishment that is family friendly. We felt it was only fair to speak with a manager to express our concerns about the unprofessional actions that the hostess displayed to our family. To our disbelief, the hostess is the OWNER of Victory Park Tavern. To say the least, we were stunned. We told her our concerns in a kind family-like manner, and also mentioned that social media speaks in volumes. We were not encouraged to stay and dine. This is the first time I have ever posted anything negative on social media, and the reason being is that from the moment we were being seated, we feel our family was being targeted for dining with a young child. In the end, our family enjoyed a pleasant meal at a FAMILY FRIENDLY restaurant in Rumson. Salt Creek Grill was exceptional; the staff, food and friendly environment was just what our family needed to enjoy our Sunday evening! We can only hope the owner of Victory Park learns a lesson, but in the end... they have lost a loyal customer. read more

I dined her for the first time and brought along my daughter. I wasn't sure what to expect. We had reservations, which at first we didn't think was necessary but soon after we arrived the place filled up very quickly. We ordered a couple of appetizers, which was a mistake, not because there was anything wrong with the food but because the portions were so large. We ordered the dumplings and the Mac and cheese. The dumplings were good, but they needed the sauce that came with it. Without it, they wouldn't have been very good. The mac and cheese was excellent. Next time, one appetizer. For our dinners, my daughter got the pasta bolegnese, and I ordered a special, which was an 8oz flank steak. Both meals were excellent. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and the bolegnese sauce was the perfect balance of sauce and meat. My steak was cooked to order, was well seasoned, and was tender. I would recommend this place and I look forward to going back there. read more

Your burgers are VICTORY! I almost alway order a burger 1-2 temps less because they are always cooked further than the desired temp. This is not the case at VPT,, this burger is pure perfection. It's the second time I've been here and they are now 2 for 2 on execution. My lady had the pork Milanese and it was equally perfect ... juicy, crispy, and appropriately salted. I had the pleasure of eating here this past week while in the metro area on business. The biggest mistake I made was heading into Manhattan the next night for dinner at a "top rated" restaurant instead of returning for a second meal at Victory Park Tavern!!! Wine List - offered American, French, Italian wines with a wide assortment to choose from. I thoroughly enjoyed the Joseph Phelps Chardonnay as well as the robust Bordeaux I ended the evening with. Food - oh my!!!! Eggplant Meatballs in a wonderfully light, silky tomato sauce! Next - the kale salad. Lastly, Ravioli with mushrooms (grown there) and goat cheese. I could have made a full meal out of any of these dishes and just didn't want to stop eating! So many wonderful flavors to enjoy in each course. Kudos to Chef Pete O'Connell!!! What a lovely evening I had the other night at the Victory Park Tavern! I made my reservation for 4 people at 5 pm and under the special request section I indicated a " quiet table" . The hostess sat us at a secluded table in the rear which couldn't have been more perfect. The menu was exactly what we were looking for; casual American food ; everything from hamburgers to scallops with lots of varied salads thrown in. I had the fig salad with grilled chicken breast ; it was fresh and delicious ! The burata appetizer with pesto was excellent as well. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive.
