That being said, it's probably best that I don't have that option. :) It's such a fun place with really unique and delicious beers and seltzers. I love the artwork and decor and love that they promote and feature local artists/musicians. They are also really dog friendly, and our boy Tito felt so welcomed and loved. Shout out to Rob, who is such a great guy (in addition to being a skilled and knowledgeable brewmaster). We look forward to coming back the next time we are in the area!

It gives off winery vibes in that it…read morehas a ton of outdoor space with a variety of seating: high top tables, low top, Adirondack chairs around fire pits, a large pavilion next to a small outdoor bar... it's all quite beautiful and peaceful. The taproom, by contrast, is a fraction of the size of the outdoor space, but equally well decorated and chill. Several high top tables, a few seats at a small bar, a view of the brewing tanks... Most importantly the beer is excellent. My girlfriend and I stopped in on an early Friday afternoon in August and had a few 4 and 7 oz pours of different beers. Tall Oaks recently won a few awards in the inaugural New Jersey Brewers Cup, so we tried a few of their award winning beers, among others. My personal two favorites were the Cottage (English Session Ale on nitro) which won bronze in the European amber/dark lager category, and the Influencing Hope (hazy IPA) which won bronze in the hazy IPA category. One nitpicky thing: the tv displayed only part of the menu, and the full menu was printed on several stained and natty sheets of paper on clipboards. Didn't quite match the elegance elsewhere in the brewery. On top of the great vibes and great beer, there is ample parking, two immaculate bathrooms, friendly service and great people at the helm (Mike and Chelsey) who put real thought and pride into their beer and creating a space for the community. This is definitely one of the top breweries in NJ.

Great for big groups. --The guy serving beers was incredibly talkative and friendly. Talked with us like we were lifelong regulars. --8 beers and 5 seltzers on tap with nice variety. The beer was good, nothing incredible, but it was good. --Flights are only $10. Definitely on the cheaper end of flight prices from our experience at many NJ breweries. Cons: --It was pretty dead for a Saturday night at 7. Only a few other people were there, and in such a big space, the emptiness kills the vibe. --Interesting choice to play men's college lacrosse and the quarterfinal of the Gold Cup instead of the Yankees on their tv's. -- I looked at their Facebook later and saw they were doing an "open playlist Saturday" for which you get to choose a song with a purchase, though this wasn't shared with us when we were there. There is tons of space outside with picnic tables and Adirondack chairs everywhere, plus many tables inside. The upstairs mezzanine and terrace are both 21+ for those who need a break from the kids and families. I've read that it gets packed with families on weekends in nice weather. My girlfriend and I came on a late afternoon on a Friday in August and it wasn't that crowded yet. It was no problem ordering beer but I could see how it could become an issue with the limited space at the bar area. We each tried a few 7 oz. pours of a few different beers and really like what we had. The blueberry milkshake IPA was inventive and delicious, the Ultra Strata and the Ultra Cashmere were both smooth and outstanding, and the Fat Elvis... Oh my goodness. What a wild ride that one is. Sweet, thick, decadent, and just oh so dangerously good. The taplist was vast, inventive and full of variety, with some styles that are hard to find at the average NJ brewery. I wish I could have sampled more but I never would have made it home safely if I had. Between the excellent beer and the incredible atmosphere, this place ranks high on our list of NJ breweries.

Wild Air makes me think of your Gen X punk uncle, older but still happy bucking trends and sticking it to the man. Lovely corner building seven blocks from the beach. Spacious inside with booths, tables and a long bar, plus an old VW Bus of all things. Lots of open space where they host live music from bands you've never heard of unless you're entrenched in the local music scene. Looking at their set up and their Instagram almost makes it feel like a concert venue that also happens to make beer. Speaking of: there are 14 beers on tap plus one hard seltzer. Most places will go all in on IPAs and pale ales, while this place seems to be the opposite. They only offer two IPAs (a hazy and a double) while the rest of the taplist is made up of pilsners (Italian, west coast, New Zealand, etc.) and lagers (a smoked lager, a Japanese rice lager, etc.). A red ale, a fruited sour ale and a gose with lime round out the list. It's quite an impressive taplist, and everything we tried was good. We live pretty far away and were just visiting Asbury Park for the day, but we would definitely come back if we're ever in the area again.

Our standout was the Duke of Nowhere dark mild, smooth, flavorful, and effortlessly drinkable. The Wasp's Nest DIPA, a collaboration with Oakflower Brewing, brings a bold, unique twist, while the Looking for Pancake imperial stout delivers just the right touch of sweetness without going overboard. We also had the chance to chat with Dan, one of the owners and brewers, whose excitement is as fresh as the pours.
