We had family in town for the weekend and decided to visit Barn8. Our friends have raved about how great it was, we had to check it our for ourselves. Nestled back onto a large farm, the signage is very helpful to navigate where to go to find the restaurant. The property welcomes guests with multiple black and red barns, with black horse fencing. It's a calming and peaceful place to be.
The restaurant, located within an actual horse barn, was amazing. Some tables in the main/middle section of the barn and other tables in the horse stalls. We were lucky enough to be seated in a stall. The stall was an ideal, little hideaway from others and provided an intimate setting for guests.
We visited on a Sunday for brunch and ordered just about everything on the menu; not quite but close. As appetizers if you will, we ordered the Grilled Carrots, Winter Burrata, and the housemade Capicola. Entrees we ordered included the Farmer's Plate, Fingerling Potato Hash, Lamb & Grits, and Pesto Bucatini. Cocktails ordered included house old fashions, Sassy-Frassy, and fresh squeezed OJ. For desserts, my waistline regrets to inform you, we ordered one of each.....no regrets. I'll review each item we ordered individually below.
The Grilled Carrots were out of this world. They were tender, flavorful. The smokey BBQ with curry oil seasoning gave a unique flavor; definitely flavors you might not otherwise combine. The added bonus; the carrots were freshly grown on the farm
The Winter Burrata was fresh and beautifully plated. It was paired with citrus and beats; for an unbeatable flavor; nice, light and definitely wanting more.
The Housemade Capicola was rich and delicious. The Capicola was cut to the perfect thickness. The pickled pepperoncini provided a ideal amount of acid for the right balance.
The Lamb & Grits were super tender, seasoned properly, and the grits were made to the perfect consistency.
Fingerling Potato Hash was a hearty dish with good flavor. The vegetables were . The fonduta was rich and delicious.
Farmer's Plate, always my go to dish and this did not disappoint. Farm fresh eggs always taste so good, the bacon was thick and crispy, the fingerling potatoes were roasted and delish. But the favorite item was the homemade biscuit that I kid you not; had to be cut 5-ways. The flakiness in that biscuit was incredible and all over the table as evidence. It was literally one of the best biscuits we had consumed. The fried apples were a nice touch; think apple pie filling. Yum yum.
Last entree, the Pesto Bucatini was made with homemade pasta, fresh chunks of vegetables, and had a superb flavor.
Dessert time...
Salted Caramel Creme Brulee
My oh my, this was good! There's something magical about taking your spoon to crack the top of a freshly made creme brulee. It was divine! The custard was rich and sweet. It was paired with what was described as granola. It was caramel corn; which may have been the best caramel corn I've ever consumed. Almost completely covered in caramel....my kind of treat. Not complaining; the portion was large enough for sharing. I ended up taking some home.
Pink pepper Meringue Donuts....The passion fruit mandarin curd created a harmonious balance of tartness and sweetness with the donut.
Burnt Basque Gorgonzola Cheesecake.... Think savory cheesecake but paired with sweet vanilla sorbet and baked pears. The cheesecake itself was so big it could have been split between two, maybe three people. The complex combo of flavors had a lot going on, but it was very good.
