While in Bardstown Kentucky touring the bourbon distilleries, my friends and I stopped by this bar for a few drinks. We entered through a speakeasy type door to the rear and were met with prohibition era style decorations. We were seated by one of the staff members in a comfortable couch and chair room with a television that was playing film noir classics. There is a bar room that has chair and tables, and a huge selection of bourbons and whiskies. When I say huge, I mean huge! Check the QR code on the menu photo that I posted. I had the traditional Sazerac, followed by the bacon old fashioned. Absolutely amazing taste. Well balanced and easy to drink. My friends went wild with other drinks and bourbon pours. All of the drinks were memorable.. The drinks here are affordable, however, if you have a thick wallet, you can spend it on some rare bourbons or whiskies, and there are a lot of them. Definitely a place to try out when you are in Bardstown. If you are a whiskey lover, this is one place to check out. read more

We were recommended to go to volstead by Kourtney at heaven hill and she was spot on. She told us to say hi to Bodie and he was great. Very knowledgeable and helped me pick bourbons. Their bottle display shows prices and they have some good hidden gems and probably several overpriced also (ehtsb for $30 as example). Check the shelves and online menu! I had two Japanese 4 roses bourbons that I'd wanted to try for awhile. One was $30 and 4 roses Black was $20 and my favorite. They seemed a little irritated that I compared the values out loud for my buddy and I but then ended up chatting us both up. Your best best is the $20/30 pours and there are several value finds. If you know bourbon value and pricing, you'll do well. If you're not sure, I'd stick to anything under $30 and you can't make any huge mistakes as long as you're having a good time. We decided to stay in Bardstown during a planned "KY Bourbon Trail" trip in which we visited several distilleries in the surrounding area. Little did we know that per the recommendation of "a friend of a friend", The Volstead Bourbon Lounge would be one of our favorite stops! Amazing experience when visiting Bardstown, KY, especially if you are into bourbon. The owner/bartender, Bodie, is super cool and informative, and the speakeasy atmosphere is genuinely unique. They have something like 1,100 bottles of bourbons and rye, ranging from pretty generic stuff up to some of the most rare, sought-after "unicorn" pours that may have alluded you in the past. This place is true gem and a must-do in Bardstown. It is very nondescript from the outside, with the entry in the back, but once inside, there are bourbon bottles everywhere! All 1,177 according to the bartender Bodie (who is amazing). He inquires about personal bourbon tastes and makes suggestions based off of that. If bourbon is not your thing, the chocolate martini is crazy good. We enjoyed it so much, we went back the next night. Don't leave this place off of your agenda. read more

What a cool place! Just around the corner from the Main Street it's a gem! We did a distillery tour. Grabbed some lunch and were walking by and noticed they were not open yet. It was 2:30 they open at 3. Bummer. But then.... The door opens and this nice gentleman says hello and says they're not open yet. So we chat a bit and he says we can go in to take a peek if we like. Yes please! Well it's a really cool place. Old speakeasy vibe. Part industrial part old school lounge with shimmery wallpaper and cool chandeliers. They decided to open early for us! How sweet! So we ordered some cocktails and bourbons and got to know the owners. They couldn't have been nicer and get this. They have over 400! Yes 400 bourbons to choose from! Get there. Check it out. Oh and they let us sample the peach bourbon slushy. Errmagerd so good! The music is pretty cool funky too and there is an adjoining room with couches and easy chairs. We only had a few hours and wanted a 'taste' of the trail for the best tastings of bourbon. The #Distill-Inn recommended the #Volstead, only 2-mi from the hotel in the center of historic #Bardstown. It was a home run. You'll enter through a Prohibition-era speakeasy door and walk through a refined & welcoming 1920's era lounge into the bar, where you'll find an extensive collection of bourbons to try. There are 4 main flight pricing options, starting at $22 for 3 (2-oz) pours, plus 2 high end. Our favorite go-to bourbon is #JimBeamBlack so we went with the $22 option. Bodie was our attentive, friendly and informed bartender (Suzie the owner was also there) and we went with their recommendations, #CalumetBourbon, #PikesvilleBourbon (both great) and #GreenRiverBourbon, our favorite. Our first stop in Bardstown after reading Yelp reviews underwhelmed us. Cool vibes but server was dismissive. The selection was wonderful but we needed a little patience with making a choice and we definitely did not receive that. Asked for a beer and both taps didn't work and partner asked bourbon questions and she basically served a bourbon we can get at any grocery store.
