Out of all of them, Willett ended up being our favorite. We had Michael as our tour guide, and he was fantastic. The tour felt a little different from the others because we got to taste different bourbons throughout the tour instead of all at once at the end. Michael was gregarious, funny, and a great storyteller. He kept everyone engaged while sharing the history of the distillery, the bourbon-making process, and plenty of entertaining stories along the way. One of my favorite parts was seeing all of the photos of the distillery cats at the beginning of the tour. As cat lovers, we absolutely loved that. This distillery has clearly been blessed by some very cute feline employees! We enjoyed tasting the different bourbons, and while the gift shop wasn't huge, it had some really unique items. We even brought home a catnip toy for our two kitties. If you're visiting the Bardstown area, I highly recommend adding Willett to your list. It was easily our favorite distillery experience of the trip.

I am mainly glad we visited Lux Row because it spurred discussion about the difference between this…read moreoperation and a flagship operation like Maker's Mark. A newer distillery, established around 2018-2019, Lux Row is a brand that seems to cater to a younger crowd. At around 90 acres compared to Maker's 1100 acres, the campus design boasts less of the old school wood aesthetic and is more steam punk. Lots of metal and exposed pipes. When we visited, production was shut down, which was maybe lucky for us. It's apparently very loud normally, plus we got to see all the inner workings of the machines. We had already seen mash being produced at Maker's, so we didn't feel like we were missing much. Dakota was our guide. At the beginning of the tour it felt very perfunctory and cookie cutter, but by the time we made it to the barrel houses and the tasting, she had really come into her own. In the barrel house, we got to do a "thieving," where we tasted bourbon right out of the barrel. At the tasting, we had five bourbons, escalating in price and rarity, paired with chocolates. Water and oyster crackers were provided as palate cleansers, along with a complimentary rocks glass. The last bourbon was the 200 dollar per bottle bourbon, but I liked the first and cheapest bourbon best, as did some others. Dakota was really passionate about the tasting and explaining to people how to taste and how to appreciate flavor profiles. She has several certifications related to bourbon and I think Lux Rox should consider her a talent and make sure she's being utilized as such.

One of the highlights was the delicious welcome cocktail they served at the beginning--it was a fun way to kick things off. Since we visited during the summer, the distillery wasn't actively producing bourbon, but our tour guide still did a great job explaining the process and sharing the history of the distillery. The gift shop was also worth checking out. They carry several different bourbon brands, including Penelope Bourbon, so there was a nice variety to browse instead of just a few labels. Overall, it was a well-run tour with friendly staff and a beautiful facility. I'd definitely recommend adding Lux Row to your Bourbon Trail itinerary.

Parking lot is gravel and there is a small bump up to the inclined concrete pathway. Aside from the gravel and ramp it is accessible. The farm tour may not be. And last but not least there is a cat, Char, who looks his name. He's a cutie, just a bit shy at first. The bourbon and rye is way pricey but the distillery is worth a visit.

That was disappointing because I really like that restaurant but I understand when attendance is low during the early part of the week. I definitely recommend a tour with your visit - their campus is lovely and the guides are excellent.
