April 25/2025: Dinner with my Al & Adrianna. This was really good but not fantastic. It was simply lacking flavour in my dish. My appetizer was the onion rings ($16.00). They were very good & a sizeable order as well. The main was the Enchiladas ($24.00 + $6.00) for the luke warm pulled pork. Our server "Moe" was so casual when she asked if I wanted pork or beef enchiladas but I should have looked for the extra pricing. Our server Moe was very funny & nice & she delivered solid service. This old train station has been turned into a pretty great and wide open restaurant. Everything we had was delicious (burger and fries for me and muscles for my mother). Service was quick, friendly, and witty. Nice sun soaked window, which was appreciated on the cold snowy day I attended. Plenty of parking just outside the place. Entrance can be a little slippery if there's recent melted snow and then a freeze. read more

Four hour drive to Tobermory, only made it an hour before kids wanted lunch, so here we are in Orangeville. This is as Canadian as it gets, from the decor to the food. Nice long patio with Muskoka chairs. Started with the flight of beers...of course. Some local crafts in there that started things off right. Once my fish and chips came, I knew why this place was on the show "You gotta eat here!". The fish was fresh battered. They make their own ketchup and tarter sauce! Even the coleslaw had their own mix of spices with caraway seed as the show. Highly recommended. read more

We spent the better part of a lazy Sunday afternoon here and really enjoyed our experience. The Barley Vine is a cute pub offering classic dishes, cocktails, and craft beers. We each ordered an IPA and they were awesome. I selected the Lady Friend IPA from Elora Brewing and bae chose the Bear Hug IPA from Market Brewing - really hit the spot! The young gentleman working the front of house was awesome. He checked on us with the right frequency and was really lovely. The bartender was also amazing and she was very knowledgeable about the different beers and menu options they had on offer. To start, we ordered the arancini. They were so good! The rice balls arrived piping hot in a pool of savoury house made tomato sauce. The arancini were crispy on the outside and ooey gooey on the inside, filled with aged cheddar melted cheese. Make sure you try these when you visit! For my main, I opted for the mac n' cheese while bae selected the fish and chips. Our meals arrived quickly and were piping hot. Everything tasted delish. My mac and cheese was slightly bland however it really did hit the spot as I was craving simple comfort food. Near the end of our stay, a man stepped up to the mic with his guitar and started singing. He was so amazing!! Apparently he is here every Sunday so make sure you check him out! Made a reservation for 7 ppl on a Saturday night. We had to ask to move to a different table as they had us so crowded into a table we wouldn't have been able to lift our arms to eat. Luckily a larger table was available- It seems we must have been sitting right above the live music that was being played downstairs. It was loud but we could still talk over the music - the vibration coming thru the floor was pretty crazy. Food was ok. Wasn't over the top but it wasn't bad either. A couple of the girls had a pasta/chicken dish and both commented that the chicken was ok but the pasta was barely warm. Definitely a cool vibe about the place- the patio looks great. A few people braved it but it was still pretty chilly for a patio night. I think I would come back and try lunch. Not sure about dinner Service was good read more

An unexpected delightful find in Orangeville, definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. The food is amazing quality and really delicious. Our entire table was happy with what they ordered and devoured everything, so I'm sure you will be happy with anything off the menu also. The chef sources all the ingredients locally and makes everything from scratch, as evident from the numerous jars of pickled vegetables and sauces in the space. Nothing out of a can or a squeeze bottle here!! I had the sandwich of the day (pulled pork with a carrot slaw) and a side of soup (some type of squash). I wish I took a picture now, but it was hard to let go of the sandwich once I took a bite. A great balance of flavors, with the vinegar of the slaw cutting through the heaviness of the meat. The pork was tender, the ratio of meat-slaw-bread was perfect and it was a very tasty sandwich. The soup was sweet, rich and thick. A great side and warms you up on a chilly day. This place definitely takes 'pub' food to a new level of expectations. read more

This place is a great favourite of mine; the food is always fantastic! The staff is professional, super- friendly, and knowledgeable; and they have been working there a long time (because it's a great place). I like that they know us and chat with us. The service is excellent: checking on the table an appropriate amount of times, clearing promptly and thoroughly after each course, and knowing how to make good recommendations from the menu. My favourite food here is the mushroom goat cheese paté. I am also a big fan of the fried chicken; it's made with confit dark and light meat, fried crispy. The decor is interesting bc it's in an old railway station. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

I came here for lunch a couple weeks ago and ordered the burger and fries. I sat on the patio since the weather was really nice. The fries were incredibly delicious. These are duck-fat cooked fries and the duck fat does wonders. They provided me with a trio of sauces, but these fries really didn't need anything. The burger, unfortunately, was not as successful. It should have been fabulous, it had great bones, but the essentials let it down. Let's start with a positive. The bun was perfection. Any upscale place looking for an upscale soft white burger bun, should come here. This is how you do it. Not a ciabatta. Not an overly sweet and buttery brioche. Not some fancyass dry bread. This. This is it, folks. Soft, white, perfectly pillowy. On to the negative. The patty was massively overcooked. Massively. It's as if the chef's sole concern was achieving maximum char on the exterior of the patty and screw the interior. That's what happened. The exterior had a very impressive char (too much char for my preference) and the interior was bone dry. It was disappointing. I would give the fries and quality of service (professional, attentive, friendly) a five and the burger a two, so I'll be generous and round up to a four. Hopefully the chef isn't too char happy with other people's burgers. read more

I was so excited to try this Resturant. The review are pretty good. I took my mom out for her birthday dinner. We had the place to ourself. I got the Leigh's fried chicken it was ok My mom got the famous Mac & Cheese, she was so disappointed maybe to much Parmesan, very strong flavor. This was our first time at Barley Vine Rail Co. and we were very impressed. We were passing through Orangeville and came in based on some other Yelp reviews. We were so glad we did. Bar: Very nice selection of local craft beers, which is a big plus in my book. I had a pint of Sidelaunch Wheat. The bar service was great. My wife ordered a cocktail and it was not exactly what was on the menu. Instead of putting up a fuss, the bar comped the drink and made her a different one. Food: The menu is small but changes often, as we came to understand. This is a good thing. It means there is a focus on delivering quality product instead of maintaining a 30+ item menu. The wife and I both had the flatiron steak frites. The meat came done perfectly medium as we had ordered. It was not overdone with seasoning and had a beautiful char on it. When you have quality steak you don't need to hide it. The fries... the fries get their own paragraph. If you're like me you appreciate a hand-cut fry. These go one step further. They are done in duck fat so vegetarians be warned. As one reviewer said earlier, where have these fries been all my life? In a word these fries are perfect. Perfect crispiness, and I mean every fry. Nice and fluffy inside and the right amount of salt. I will come back here for the fries alone. We finished our meal with the trio of deserts and that's when I realized that I was so hungry that I hadn't snapped a pic. I also ordered the coffee and to my surprise it came to the table in my own personal french press. Very nice touch! We will come back and will recommend anyone give this place a try. read more

When most of the menu is interesting, and made from all locally sourced ingredients, I go out of my way to give it a try. Pork Belly Perogies are not very common, but these were rich and flavourful. Much like Perogies fried in bacon fat, but built in bacon flavour. Their Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf is a perennial hit with diners, so I gave it a try. A nice portion of succulent and flavourful meatloaf with just enough bacon influence to make it outstanding. Carmelized onion gravy is poured over the top, and a tangy sweet BBQ sauce is also part of the experience. The side of veggies included parsnip and squash, both rather unusual for accompaniments. And what would meatloaf be without a really good mashed potato. My guest went for the Mac and Cheese. I stole a taste, and found it very good, with lots of bacon and rich fresh cheese and little flour as a filler. Desert had to be the Smores Pot de Creme, too bad it's served in a little preserve jar--makes it too hard to lick clean! Had lunch here after Maple Syrup Festival at Island Lake Conservation area. This is off the main street but it's direct access in one of the parking lots in the area. We really enjoyed the meal we ordered. My wife had smoked salmon with salad and I had a braised beef short rib with vegetables and mashed potatoes. The smoke salmon was cooked perfectly with great smokiness. The beef is very tender as it just comes off the bone so easily. All the sides are fresh and tasty. Apparently, all the food here are made fresh including condiments. The kids enjoyed their tasty fish and chips. Light and crunchy breading! We will definitely keep this in mind whenever we are around the vicinity! read more

A really nice spot to drop by on the way north. Well worth the deviation from the chains like Boston Pizza. We had a steak and fries and Mac and cheese. All great comfort food. The fries are well executed and seasoned and taste fresh. Steaks were properly cooked and well seasoned as well. I'd knock off a 1/2 Star for the steaks being on the luke-warm side - they had been held too long. Wine and beer selection is good and service is very attentive. Sit at the front, the back room is a bit sterile and lit like an operating room. Will be back. read more

What a gem this place is!!! We were in town for a wedding at Hockley Valley resort and wanted to venture into Orangeville for some good food and beers. I'm so glad I picked this spot! We sat at the bar and had a couple of beers and some delicious food. I had my first ever Poutine!!!! It was the Barnyard Poutine (duck fat fries, chicken gravy and melted cheese curds... mmmmm!!! So good!!!) then we got the crispy pork bombs which were pulled pork and cheddar croquets with jalapeño sour cream. These were delicious!!! Then we shared a carrot and ginger soup which was their special. Seriously impressed with the quality of the food and fresh ingredients. Denise, the bartender was super friendly and chatted with us about Orangeville and LA (which we came from). She also told us they make all the food I'm house, even the ketchup! No wonder the food is so delicious.. you can taste the difference! We also chatted with a friendly blonde bartender who's name I forgot to ask! She was super nice and recommended some great beers, including one she described as "summer in a glass." She was right, I loved that beer! I highly recommend trying this place if you are passing through Orangeville or are a local (which you should already know of it and love it if you are)! Let me start by saying this is indeed a wonderful restaurant. Food tastes very fresh and while nothing on the menu is very daring or innovative, that's actually a good thing! We got a few items: Pork Bombs: One of the best items on the menu. The accompanying dip is equally spivey and yummy. Really enjoyed this one. Barn yard poutine: Golden brown crispy and delicious. Gravy was not overpowering. Enjoyed this very much. Wings: Simply awesome! They use smaller wings which are far more tasty compared to ginormous wings you get in the typical wing shop. If you like wings, you should try these. BVR Burger was a bit disappointing. The patty had a bit too much herbs for my liking to the point it overpowered the meat taste. It was also a bit dry which again was a disappointment. Everything tasted very fresh though. I really hope Chef Mills revises this item a bit. Fish and Chips: Perfect batter and fries was again spectacular. Overall not too oily or greasy at all and the fish was fluffy. Iron skillet Steak: I think the lean meat theme runs through all beef dishes here. The steak was yummy indeed but again not astonishingly great as it was a bit dry but otherwise the meat quality was top notch. Strawberry Hand Pie and Carrot Cake were small portions of delightful taste. The hand pie (hint, it's not a pie!) was fluffy light, perfect way to finish up lunch. Service was attentive and friendly throughout. Overall very happy with the food. You can tell a lot of love and effort has gone in to every dish. The fresh made dips and sauces are truly yummy. One item the restaurant needs to improve on: The men's bathroom (not sure if it applies to Women's as well) was very dim and generally didn't look very fresh although it was very clean. It really needed a good scrub and could definitely use some additional lights. Will be back here again for sure. read more

I took my boyfriend out for his birthday dinner on a Thursday at 6:00. I had a reservation made but realized I probably didn't need one as there were plenty of tables available. After reading other reviews I thought we should try the pork belly perogies. My boyfriend is a bit of a perogie snob... So I was interested in his reaction. He loved them, and so did it. Great flavor and texture. Loved the dipping sauce too, interesting change from regular sour cream. We both got the burger and duck fat fries for our main. The fries are truly amazing, so yummy. Hard to describe how they taste.... Like regular hand cut fries kicked up a notch. They didn't even need ketchup! The burger patty was nice and fresh... They use locally sourced ingredients. Very jucy and cooked medium well. The bun was also very nice, toasted and soft. WELL worth the $15. The menu is small... That might turn some people off, but if your going to do everything fresh to order and use local ingredients, that's the way it has to be. I'll be back! read more

Visited on October 1, 2016 Came here with a friend as we were just passing through. Ordered the beer battered cod and duck fat fries and the braised beef on risotto. Wow this place really impressed. We savoured every bite! The batter on the cod was light, fluffy, perfectly seasoned. Soooo tasty! The beef was so soft and tender. The risotto was so delicious! The duck fat fries came with a garlic aioli and home made ketchup. The sauces weren't really necessary but they were quite good too. The staff are also very friendly and attentative. There was zero flavour to my dish until I doused it in salt. The texture of the gnocchi wasn't great either, but I could have looked past it if the sauce had been good. We didn't even realize she was talking about a sandwich until she had basically finished. We ordered the battered mushrooms to start, and it was three massive mushrooms sitting in a garlic aioli. The mushrooms were too big and ended up being pure water under the batter. My mom's fish in chips had barely warm chips, but she enjoyed the fish (also comes with garlic aioli) . Great vibe with excellent food. We had the steak and frites, as well as the bison burger and both were delightful. (Add goat cheese to your bison burger and opt for the poutine -- it's savoury and delicious without the heaviness of most pub poutine.) Very good craft beer selection on tap.
