Vegetarian curry
Kristi B.

Was in town for a work trip and this was the location that they took us to dinner at one night. While, the menu is fairly extensive with plenty of options for vegan or vegetarian. I did find that a lot of the meals that were offered felt a little heavy when I just wanted something light (and not a salad). Our server was pleasant enough, but it did take a long time for us to get our meal. I feel this is fairly common with most Canadian restaurants, a dinner that really should only take about an hour - hour and a half seems to always drag to almost 2 to 2 1/2 hours due to speed of the kitchen and or service. I opted for the vegetarian curry. It was rich in flavor but there was a lot of it and I was only able to eat half of it.

Great day, amazing food, splendid Service, wonderful Ambiance, good vibrant and Leilah are clearly the best on it.

Steak frites

I came with with a few friends for a going away lunch. I came here before so I already knew what to expect. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and you get this nice vibe from the staff. So onto the food. I decided to get the steak frites and of course I had to go medium rare. It came with a chimichurri sauce which was a little sour with a kick. I'd say the flavours were very nice and blended together. The thing is, the meat quality wasn't the best. The steak felt incredibly tough and you really had to chew or put a lot of force when cutting through it. My friend got the chipotle mango chicken, and she told me it tasted very good. But same thing, the chicken meat quality was pretty dry. In short, it tastes good, but the quality is lacking. We ended with some dessert and of course the brownie is a must get. I got the toffee pudding but I feel like I enjoyed the brownie more. Other than that, with the price point I feel like you would be expecting a little better food quality.

I came in on a sunday evening around 5pm, it wasnt busy, the host was able to get us seated as we walked in. The restaurant is very clean, and the lighting/ seating was perfect. The Food was great 10/10, the chef ( not sure what his name was) was a gentleman, he brought over our brownies and made sure that everything was okay with our food. The reason why i'm rating 2 stars, is because after eating our meal (party of 4) the server HELEN asked us if she could "get us out" if we weren't ordering more. Even if it wasn't her intent, her energy and the wording of that question was rude & made us feel unwelcome.

Before: The uncooked layer of cheese that I asked them to throw under the broiler for a little more

Easily the worst Moxie's I've been to. For starters, the lounge was severely understaffed. One waitress was assigned to take care of our section, which had multiple big tables and let to very slow wait times for everything. I don't blame the waitress at all, as she was alone. Where I do blame her is when I asked for my nachos to be "put under the broiler for longer", as the bottom layer of cheese was not melted (as you can see in my photo). I said broiler for a reason, yet what I got back was a disgusting mess of molten cheese with oil separating out, and soggy nachos - they just threw it into the microwave... The nachos are one of the only good things about Moxie's, yet they managed to screw that up. I wouldn't come to this location.

Sirloin Steak with Chimichurri Squce

My fiancé and I had the best experience here a few weeks ago. They're mask exempt friendly. The entire staff here went above and beyond to provide the most amazing service here. I ordered the Sirloin Steak with Chimichurri sauce. I asked for medium-well but when I got it, it was more medium/medium rare. I didn't want a replacement but rather just cook it more. The manager Stephen apologized right away and offered me a soup or salad while I wait for my food. When my new steak arrived he apologized again and said the steak was on the house. I was floored. I told him that was really kind of him and I really don't mind paying as it is such a minor mistake. He said "no please, it's on us". We had such an amazing conversation with the staff and Stephen after. We truly felt welcomed and accepted. The food was also amazing and the atmosphere here is beyond perfect! We understand we won't be able to come here for awhile due to the v passports and we know this mandate is not their fault. But we will definitely support this location even for take out. Thank you for everything Stephen + staff :) you guys are awesome

Great restaurant. The vibe, the design, the setting and the decoration are all just perfect. Went there for dinner, all the servers and staff are very well interconnected, they all knew exactly what we told the other server or what we were missing and so forth. It's was awesome honestly. Coming to the food, it was great. Like fresh, well made and tasty. All the food was made to perfection and the service was well timed, highly recommend it

Moxie's has a standard for atmosphere and service .. but the food falls short. The restaurant felt posh and cozy. It was a darker dim feel. There were even screens above each urinal in the washroom. Wait staff were also friendly. They were fast, I had a large group and they had four different credit card machines going when we were paying individually. The food was subpar. I tried the Beef Dip sandwich with fries. It was a bit bland. No real taste to it. There was no flavour to the roast beef and pretzel bun. I couldn't taste any sautéed mushrooms and horseradish aioli. The swiss cheese was sliced packaged cheese. Also, for all those french fries, there were really stingy with the ketchup.

Went here tonight at 8:00pm for drinks and dinner. It was about half full, so we didn't have trouble getting a booth. The decor is very chic with nice shades of beige and dark brown with elegant lighting. This is pretty classy for a business gathering, or date night. Our server wasn't the most talkative guy--not asking how we were doing tonight or anything like that. I guess he's not into chit chat, he also seemed a bit of a rookie. We ordered wine from the list of 20 choices and he brought it over right away. For dinner we ordered chicken and ribs. A person from the kitchen brought us the entrees, but wasn't that friendly. Upon tasting the small thin boneless chicken, it didn't seem that is was cooked fresh, and was far too salty, though the ribs were piping hot, and fall-off-the-bone good. The potatoes that came with it were nice and hot. The coleslaw wasn't anything to write home about, tasted a bit dry and sour. For dessert we ordered the dark chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream on top. The warm cake underneath the cold ice cream was just perfect. So in summary, excellent decor, mixed feelings on the food, and the staff weren't that friendly.

Came here for lunch with coworkers - great atmosphere! It was busy with business people and the bar was full. Everything was very tasty, service was a little slower but can't blame them. We ordered shrimp tacos, a cheeseburger, and I got the vegan tacos. Loved them and the meat didn't taste too artificial compared to others that I've tried.

The holy grail of all brownies.

Beautiful patio! Due to covid, I'm glad all seating was nicely spaced out and that all waiters wore masks. Our wait time to be seated was around 10 minutes which is great since all patios seem to be fully booked these days (we went on a Weds which probably explains the short wait time). Moxies has some of the best nachos! They actually use real cheese and it's layered which is so important. Their guac to go with the nachos is also delicious. Calamari, burger and fries, also equally delicious. Hands down the white chocolate brownie, one of my all time favourite desserts aka the holy grail of all brownies, never fails me! There isn't a word to describe how much I love that brownie . Our waiter was also attentive. I don't live in the area but if I did, I'd definitely go back to this location.

Caesar salad

Clean, professional and friendly services. Me and my friend ordered several appetizer dishes. The server was very polite and attentive. Couple of items I noticed very heavy on salt. My Caesar drink was salty and fish taco was super salty with seasoning so we didn't finish. We commented with the server, so the manager came and gave us new dish as compliment which was nice. On top, they didn't charge us for the dish. Over all experiments, food was 3/5 but service and environment was 5/5. I always loved Moxie cause of this reason and will definitely coming back again

Cheesecake very dry- looks like one that they kept for long in the fridge
Ber B.

Taste 2/5 Nothing extra in Moxie food. Fish in our taco were very small. Thin like fish size. Curry vindaye dish we took wasn't that spicy as should be a curry dish. Taste were blend. Lots of huge onions but not much meat in it. Had to wait long for our cheesecake. When it came server apologized for the wait and gave us the cheesecake for free. Only then did we realize why. The cheesecake was very dry. Looks like a cheesecake that has been kept for a long time in the fridge. The edges were very dry and dark. Customer service 3/5 We had different servers coming up at our table then someone will kind of push away the current server to say they will take over our table as it's theirs. Was weird

I got the Power bowl and my partner got the dill pickle poutine. Generally good portion size and what felt like overall good value for money. The cocktails were very reasonably priced. It's also a cute, cozy atmosphere, and really nice for a hotel attached restaurant. Particularly when it seems to be non chain and many steps above the usual Denny's restaurant. Cons: A few on this visit. Floors felt really sticky in parts. It's a wood floor and I'm not sure if perhaps they used the wrong cleaner for the purpose, as I've had a similar thing happen to my apartment floor. Server said they would clean up the table. Bartender came up after 5 minutes waiting in the seats by the entrance. Asked if we had a seat, told him we were told to wait, then he immediately escorted us to a table. There was a little confusion between the server and bartender as they tried to tend to us sort of twice in the beginning. The place was about 80-90% full, and it looked like it was they were the only two working the front of house at the time, so I could understand if there was a bit of a problem. Looked like they were hurrying. Drinks arrived in a reasonable time though. Some miscommunication when bringing the food - the bartender was bringing it over and it was loud. He started auctioning off the food, so couldn't hear him, so we said, "what?" He replied, "oh, wrong table" and then sort of stormed off. Looked like they tried to sort out the confusion, and after about 5 minutes the server came to us to clairfy and explained what happened. Said the power bowl dish went to someone else but the person that got it, their order was being made so it'd be a small delay. She offered the 15% discount on food that diamond tier RSVP members at the Sandman hotel get. She was very apologetic about the incident. The bartender came at the end of the meal to provide the bill. They gave me the POS and then just left the table. MIght have been a one-off experience, the last review was six months ago. I would say the server was mostly good at remaining her composure. She seemed slightly flustered at the very beginning but things were busy. The bartender seemed to have gone a bit rogue and was a bit aloof to us. A single page menu had about 3 items off the menu, marked with white out. Could use a bit of an update. I'd probably check how busy it is before possibly ordering there again, opting for a delivery option instead.

The menu leans fusion, so there was a lot to try, and overall it felt like a fun place to share plates and compare notes with the table. The cocktails definitely stood out for being stronger than the usual lighter, sweeter drinks you get elsewhere, and the smoky cinnamon one was probably the most memorable. For appetizers, the beef tartare with bone marrow was the clear winner for me. The tartare tasted bright and fresh, and the marrow was rich without feeling greasy. The mussels were also enjoyable, mostly because they were fresh and sat in a creamy broth that made the whole dish feel comforting. We also tried the octopus with pumpkin purée, which had a nice chewy texture and a lovely sweetness from the purée, although a slight charred taste came through more than I personally wanted. For mains, a few dishes landed better than others. The ribeye with chimichurri was one of the stronger choices, tender, properly cooked medium rare, and especially good with that sharp, herbaceous sauce. The ribs were also very tender and full of flavor. The salmon in puff pastry was enjoyable enough that I would order it again, even though the pastry itself was a little softer than I expected. The udon carbonara was decent and comforting, but probably not the most memorable thing on the table, and the signature chicken had flavorful meat even if the rice leaned a bit too soft for me. One small complaint I kept coming back to was the bread, which tasted more charred than I like. Still, Wilcox feels like a nice little spot for a relaxed dinner with drinks, especially if you go in the mood to share, explore the menu, and order a few of the stronger dishes.
