If I could give 10 stars , I would. I took my 10 year old German Shepherd here for Mother's Day weekend. We have boarded her at her vets office for our past 3 trips and have come back to bleeding paws and a severely agitated dog. But at Barkingham, she was treated like a queen. And this is their normal routine. They took such great care of our baby. We were able to look in on her with the camera system in her room. Everything was super clean. Bella usually doesn't like other dogs but they got her playing with other Shepherds, which we were extremely happy to hear. The thing about when we picked her up, she was really happy, not just to see us, it was almost like she didn't want to leave her new friends! She got a bath as well and we noticed the beautiful job they did with the grooming. Everything about Barkingham was amazing and I would never think of bringing my dog anywhere else. They don't just treat them like dogs, they treat them like family read more

Do not board your pets here!! My friends dog died in there care. Didn't even contact her until hours later saying her dog was sick.She asked to see video footage being there is videos all over and in the rooms. They told her it was deleted. What a coincidence!! I wouldn't use them for my dog! Friends of mine boarded their GSD here and it suddenly died while under their care. My friends (owners of the dog) were not contacted for hours later. When they asked Barkingham about the video surveillance, they were told it was not available and it was deleted. An employee from the facility wrote a long response with a bunch of nothing to it. There was no explanation of the events or information about the deleted video. I feel this is very suspicious. I would stay far away from any business that operates in that manner. read more

I left my miniature schnauzer at Barkingham Palace for two weeks and, when I picked her up, her eyes were full of black "sleepy sand" It was so bad that it covered the outer and inside parts of her eyes, and her left eye was half open. I was so worried that I took her to my vet and, while her eyes had no cuts, the vet doctor said that eye was irritated. They did not take good care of my dog. I called the owner, and he denied that she was not well taken care of and I mentioned her eyes. I will never take my dog to them again. There is not excuse for this kind of neglect. read more

We have been boarding our standard poodle at Barkingham for almost 10 years now. We have NEVER had a problem. The staff is outstanding as is the dog care. Our dog knows this place and the people and he's always wagging his tail when we pull up. I'm sorry to see others have had issues but we've boarded our dog alot (5-6 times a year for up to a month) and have never had any issues. I highly recommend Barkingham. read more

Well Carol. It was when our dog was brought out to us. We have only used Barkingham. You miss-read what I wrote. Or do you put the collars back in once the dogs are on the other side of the counter? Our Mal ALWAYS was brought out with a collar on. With the lack of quality service, poor customer service, and the constant problems we had with our Malamute coming back sick from your facility, you need to get a handle on what your facility is lacking. Visiting FL and going on a cruise. Googled dog boarding for precious Chevy. sent the records and called Barkingham. Very polite employees. Dropped by days prior to cruise to tour the palace without an appointment. The place is huge and smells clean-which isn't easy when there are lots of dogs. Jennifer and Syndney were so kind. Chevy thinks boarding is his vacation. I have peace of mind leaving our fur baby at the Palace! Chevy is a spoiled Lhasa from Laguna Beach that frequents the Ritz and Waldorf on his daily walks...he seemed quite happy with his tour! Thank you! read more

Please board your pet with caution! We had to board our elderly beagle and 2 Havanese over a weekend. Our beagle was housed separately and came home with a lacerated nose and covered in her feces. Even though all 3 were properly immunized, they all got Kennel Cough. All 3 also came home with hemorrhage diarrhea even though they had their own food. All of these things combined shows a lack of concern and proper sanitation procedures. I emailed them with my concerns and never heard back. Barkingham is no longer up to their precious high standards. We do not recommend boarding your pets here! read more

Our dog was getting old and they were so good with her. Also we have a rescue dog that is a nervous dog, they handled both of them without stressing them out. The did a fabulous job on the bath and clipping them. We have some problems with allergies and they kept the stuff they used on them very light for us. They are great with the animals and also with the owners. Pam is an awesome groomer. We highly recommend this place. read more

Took my dog here for a bath and basic grooming. Came back 4+ hours later and got a bunch of grief about 5 hour maximums; some employee already having left at 3:00 pm; and not having the right vet records on file. Not sure what any of this had to do with me, plus none of these "rules" were mentioned to me when I dropped the dog off. I experienced two of the reception staff having poor communication and "people" skills. Rude. I'd give negative stars if possible! This place is a joke, save your animals, DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE! My dogs do not go anywhere except for our fenced backyard bc I have 2 very young babies. When we took a family trip and boarded them here, they came home extremely ill and my one dog still has severe bronchitis from the kennel cough he contracted at this facility. They do not care, they clearly do not check the animals (for vaccinations or physical illness) and they don't care if your animal is suffering from their negligence. All they will keep saying is, this isn't bc we were negligent, they can get sick anywhere. They should be ashamed of themselves! I've boarded my dogs throughout my adult life and never had such a negligent experience! I've never had my dogs come home sick or in any sort of bad condition. Also.... When you explain that this is a problem you'd like addressed, they try to insult your intelligence! Don't waste your time or money! Save yourself and your pets! read more

Despite using them before in the past, and not having an issue; there must be new staff or rules/regulations (well, more so a lack thereof) as Barkingham is not a friendly or safe environment. Upon picking my sweet puppy up after vacation, he was brought to us with massive raw and scabbed spots. We reached out to the owner and told her that our dogs did not experience a loving caring environment and we were told "we have too many dogs here to give yours individual attention, perhaps you should hire a pet sitter next time to come to your house and pet your dogs." So from the wise words of the owner, please do you and your fur babies a favor and use a different company. read more

Boarded my dog here once. The price seemed reasonable for the amount of time we would be away. The accommodation themselves seem very nice. After I returned from vacation my dog had a major flea problem. I will never board a pet here again. He has never had fleas before. read more

We took our dog here while we were away on our honeymoon and will never use them again. Everything is extra (including playtime with other dogs) and boarding there is already more expensive than most local places. Our dog lost a lot of weight while he was there and the dogs do not get personalized attention. We also had to run back there after taking him home since they had forgotten to give us back some of his items. The main area the dogs are kept (if you don't spring for the super expensive "suites") looks like a pound with rows and rows of chain link kennels. Unless you pay top dollar, you are getting bare bones treatment. We now take our dog to be boarded at our vet (Sarno Animal Hospital) where he gets all the attention he wants and for a much better deal. I was not impressed with Barkingham. read more

It is time for my yearly review. Yes, I do write every year. Why? Because the employees are the best. I see notes about them being rude, never to me, but then, I was rude or pushy to them. The real question is how are they with the animals. My dog is my daughter. She has me wrapped around her little paw. She loves every employee there, and they love her. She doesn't come home with fleas, but of course I have the courtesy to use a monthly flea treatment. If she is at all out of sorts I get a call. We have moved 1 hour away and still drive here for daycare and boarding. I trust no one else as much. read more

We just got back from vacation in Cocoa Beach and had our two dogs stay at Barkingham. We loved it. The staff was wonderful. I was pleased they had staffing 24x7 and were always quick to pick up the phone when we called. Our babies came back happy and healthy. When I walked in and was met by " Candy " , She made me feel like an intrusion with my dog in my arms, maybe since it was 5:30 pm . I told her my husband was getting the shot records. I got a " VERY ICY " feeling about the place. The walk through seemed okay, it although I felt like I was on an $$$$ a la carte conveyor belt . Money was extremely the height of conversation . We were also told we have " very RICH clients " that don't care if they lose a deposit . The only good thing I felt about the visit is that they have web cams in the suites . My husband's phone rang and it was like 5:55 and he stepped away from the desk, she kept saying sir, sir,!! I explained it would only be a moment and he would be back, she said " We close at 6:00 sharp" Needless to say NO WAY is this a fit. If they treat potential clients like this , I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my dog there , Yes, Jennifer , it's certainly not a GOOD FIT. I moved to Melbourne a few months ago and knew I needed to board my dog. My husband and I went and looked at a few places and Barkingham Palace by far was the best! The other places wanted us to make an appointment to visit but not Barkingham. We discussed my concerns and they made very valid suggestions to not only help with boarding but the separation for my pup. The staff there were so caring, loving, attentive and supportive!!! Also, we got Getty a haircut on the day of departure absolutely perfect!! I was able to view Getty on the live stream video and the staff were very caring to him knowing his personality of being scared and bashful!!! There is no doubt that this place is the BEST not only for Getty but the superb staff that work there!! Thank you Again!!!! read more

Left my two dogs here a 14 year old Springer and a 9 month old Aussie for 5 days. During the checkin process which was pretty extensive, I left directions for feeding. One cup of dry mixed with 1-2 tablespoon of wet twice a day. After two days they called me to tell me my dogs were out of food?! I had left 5 pouches of wet food, a full bag of puppy food and a full canister of adult food. When I called to ask what was going on they told me the dogs were almost out of wet food. Apparently they had totally ignored the directions that they had entered themselves into the notes on the computer. When I asked the attendant to read back to me the directions in the computer she read them back exactly as I had left them. They just completely ignored them and gave the dogs nothing but wet food for two days. They seem to not have even been aware that I had also left two bags of dry food. Lazy and incompetent. Clearly whoever was caring for the dogs never bothered to read the notes. My impression is that they have too many dogs (they were fully booked) and not enough staff to properly care for them. I'll never leave my dogs here again as I'm sure they had diarrhea after nothing but wet food for two days and then nothing but dry (which I'm sure they wouldn't eat until starving) for the remaining 3 days. One simple direction- one cup of dry and 1-2 tablespoons of wet- and they couldn't be bothered to read their own notes. Thank god I didn't leave any medications to be dispensed!! read more

I will never use them again. I dropped my Pomeranian off with instruction about her meds. I told them that I already gave her a dose before I dropped her off and to give it to her as needed the next day. Well two hours into my trip they called me about my dog struggling with her breathing. My dog had to go to the emergency pet hospital and a $1000 later she was fine. Barkingham gave my dog an extra dose of her meds after I told them I gave her some that day. I ended up driving back that night missing my daughter's track meet. I don't know what I would have done if we would have flown some where and could not come back. read more

We love Barkingham Palace for our dog Izzy. She's a little hyper at times but sweet and they took to her right away. No need to explain anything when I call for a boarding reservation, only dates and a "thanks, see you (then)!" Our dog comes home, happy and "tired" every time! Any dog owner knows, a tired dog is a good dog :) I highly recommend Barkingham to anyone looking to board their dog (short term or long). I'm going to agree with the only other review on here at the moment. The area where dogs are kept is loud and the dogs are on cement floors with chain link fences, they do provide a raised bed but in my opinion it is still not great treatment. I also had to pay extra for play time, which seemed unnecessary since when I arrived there were no dogs playing in the outside areas even though they were full up on dogs (it was thanksgiving weekend). I may just care too much about my dog, but I wouldn't use this place ever again. The employee I dealt with upon check out was also very rude. She was having a computer problem which I knew the solution to, but she cut me off mid sentence claiming she "already knew how to do that", but didn't even know what I was going to say. She then went on to tell me how she didn't have enough time to solve the problem, she had no idea how ignorant she was actually being. read more

I have taken my dogs here a few times. The first time they did great on my malshi. So when it was time to groom again we took our malshi and our new puppy. When picking them up I could not believe the cut on my Maltese (new puppy) he looked like someone had taken a a pair of scissors and chopped away. The girl who brought him out said she could tell it was his first cut and they did the best they could, and then walked away. So I decided to give them another try today. The instructions were to not trim the ears or the tails on either dog. My Malshi came home with long ears (good), and a completely shaved tail(bad). And no there were no mats in her tail, but one in her right ear. My Maltese came home with a long tail (good) and completely shaved ears (bad). I called the manager and the best she could say was "I was not there when the grooming was done. I can talk to the groomer and see what she has to say." So basically your word against ours. I am so disappointed and the amount of money I paid they did not clean the eye areas or cut their nails. We have had family dogs boarded there. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I was very disappointed in Barkingham. I have a Senior rescue with severe separation anxiety issues. I had to go to Greece for work on a turnaround ... 1 day, 2 nights, and was very concerned about leaving my dog for the first time in unfamiliar surroundings, as I just recently moved to Melbourne. I put both my dog and my cat in the King 1 suite, which has a camera. I was able to watch her a lot and was not happy with what I saw. There is no affection for the animals. None. When they leash them and unleash them, there is no pet behind the ears, nothing. Very cold. I am doing laundry today and washing all the blankets and towels I brought, only to find out they marked everything with my pet's names in PERMANENT marker, which ruined the blanket I brought. Julie apologized, but I will never return here. I think maybe the non-refundable deposit may be a result of people finding out the original owners, who gave the place its great reputation, are no longer there? Just a guess. I will say they were quick to clean up accidents in the room, although the entire facility could be cleaner. read more

Hi Everybody! I boarded my 10 year old dog there for a week, last week for $28 a day. After 4 days, I get a call from the management to come pick up my doggie immediately because he snapped at the "dog handler"! I was 3000 miles away in Reno Nevada.. They called "Animal Control" and I had to cut my trip short by three days, buy a new airlines ticket=$1300, and lose the two more nights at the Atlantis Hotel and my time with my son who lives now in Reno, to fly home and get my doggie. Animal Control called me and said they investigated and it was just a "nip" and was not bad at all! I was very disappointed with the care taken of my dog while at Barkingham Palace in Rockledge. The dogs are not walked enough. They spend the majority of the time in their confined space. Barkingham Palace is the cleaniest, most well, run and most importantly compassionate doggie resort I have ever boarded my dogs at. I felt like the employees treated my dogs as if they were their own. My dogs stay in the standard runs where there is no charge for last minute cancellations. Last month I was on my way home back to South Florida. I have 5 dogs and they ride securely in crates in my van. Well one of my dogs had bloody diarrhea in his crate. It was a mess. There was no way I could have driven home like that, and stopping at a rest stop would not have helped. Even though I wasn't boarding my dogs that particular weekend, I pulled into Barkingham Palace and asked if they could please help me. Within minutes 5 employees jumped into action. All of my dogs were taken out of the crates and brought to the fenced walking area in the back. My boy who had the accident was actually carried from his crate straight to the bath tub, washed and blow dried. Another employee took the soiled crate pan out and washed and dried it. They even sprayed the van with air freshner. What business do you know would care that much about it's clients and dogs? My dogs never stay anywhere else. I've seen many kennels try to start up in Brevard county only to go out of business. But Barkingham has been around for 13 years and has not only expanded twice, but also enjoys a reputation for excellence. A reputation that is well deserved in this dog owners opinion. read more

AVOID AVOID !!!! i boarded my very sweet and loving Maltese at this facility for 4 nights and when I picked her up she was limping and had an ear infection. They were supposed to groom her and they simply forgot and just apologized. My dog was HURT by these people and I will NEVER forgive them for it. I don't EVER blast businesses because I know and understand that there's always more than one side to a story. However, I'm breaking my rule and calling out BARKINGHAM PALACE and their puppy training policy. I know everyone will not agree with my stance on this, and that's your right, but, I inquired about taking our new pit bull puppy to training class when he turns 4 months old (he's 12 weeks now). They stated they do not accept pit bulls OR pit mixes due to liability (I have he email). My belief is that any dog can be trained to be badly behaved and mean or trained to be well behaved. I would think as advocates and dog lovers, they would want to have pits trained properly and encourage owners to do so. We are responsible pet owners and want to do what's right by him and our other dogs. On the flip side, I am not naive and I understand and know that some people have had negative interactions with this breed of dog, so I empathize with that and can completely understand their feelings against the breed. But, we shouldn't generalize with this breed just as we shouldn't generalize with people/religions/races/ethnicities etc. in humans. read more

We moved here in July and when I asked around I was told Barkingham Palace was the best! We have taken our English Bulldog there at least once a week to play and left her 4-5 times overnight. She loves to go and has a great time. I would definitely recommend it. Staff is very friendly and helpful but they do have policies that they have to stick to. I feel my dog is in very good hands when I leave her there! read more

VERY UPSET with the boarding of our Shepard!! This was the 2nd time using Barking Ham Palace for boarding. Our dog was there for 4 days. Upon pick up his bedding that we supplied was soaked with urine as well as his thick coat. I do not feel our dog was cared for or walked properly! We will NEVER return!!! read more

Be careful with these folks. When you sign their contract you'll forfeit your deposit if you make changes or if they screw up and mark down the wrong dates. I received a nasty call the night before our trip wondering why we did not bring our two little poodles in for the night. I later found out that the rude caller was actually the owner. NEVER AGAIN!
