Wow i'm impressed. It's nice to see something actually good at a theme park. I usually just resign myself to some terrible hot dogs or stick food. I was looking for a sitdown restaurant at the San Diego Wild Animal Park and did not find one. This looked like a pretty good alternative to me, as compared to the other choices with extensive varied offerings the description on the map simply said "pizza and beer". I didn't get any beer but I did get a pepperoni pizza (see photo). It was pretty good! Yeah, pricey for what basically is slightly bigger than a fast-fire pizza, but still satisfying. If you're looking for a quick meal to satisfy the hunger you built up from walking, you can probably knock it out here. If you're wondering about the size, the pizza is good for 2 adults. You cannot feed a family of four with it, because the crust is incredibly thin. Hot tip: Do not get soda here. They water it down so much that it doesn't even taste anything like whatever it is supposed to be.

I would like to share the good news about the newest eatery at the San Diego Safari park. Barking Deer Pizza and Beer popped up just in time for spring park visits. Safari Park gets it and has evolved past "park food" which is expensive and bland. Welcome to this century where people have choices, and good choices at that. Erase your perception of pizza at a zoo venue right now. Stay with me while I describe Barking Deer Pizza and Beer for you. First of all, they have 32 ounce local craft beer here, now do I have your attention? Their reasonably priced menu has pizza, salads and sandwiches and it is vegetarian friendly too, whoo hoo! But wait, there's more! The pizza is freshly made and cooked in a real pizza oven? Yessiree! This location is convenient, but not really close to the the animals. They have a cute little delivery bike, see the photo here: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/barking-deer-pizza-and-beer-escondido?select=kJuTV1fmBdGsB504TcmE8A#q6tGGTUUEG_goylWwCVw9g My alter ego thinks that their delivery might just be a little "rusty", Ha ha.

Surprising better than I expected, probably the best choice at the safari park. Way better than the options at the zoo itself.

We ordered the classic burger with avocado and jalapeños and the mushroom Swiss with avocado, both cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The ingredients taste fresh, the buns are soft and toasted just right, and everything comes together exactly how a great burger should. Even the fries are excellent--crispy and seasoned well. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the whole place has a great atmosphere. It's clean, open, and comfortable with a cool modern vibe that makes it a great place to sit down and enjoy a meal. Every visit has been solid. If you're a burger fan, this place is a must.

The order was right and they didn't cause any scenes from when I was there. Everything was kept clean and there was no particular area that I felt the need to avoid or ask to clean up. The food was the main star of the show - especially the smokehouse burger/slider. The flavor was all there and the patty was juicy and just over all delicious. The grilled chicken club was a little dry, but it was in a slider version so I imagine that's bound to happen. The cheeseburger slider was good, but not amazing - patty was still cooked enough to be juicy, and it was enjoyable. The fries were yummy, but not out of this world. It's possibly because I'm not the biggest fan of steak fries, but I'd eat them again. Overall, a great place to stop by in the area and would definitely visit again to try other items. Will definitely look into what others enjoyed so I can try those too!

There is a nice indoor/outdoor vibe as there are some really big glass garage type windows that open (or close). The service has always been very prompt and friendly. I keep going back to their pizza's as they are quite good. I also suggest checking the special of the day as they usually have some pretty cool ones. They also have beer! Quite a few to be honest and if you aren't sure they are great at helping you figure out what works for you. For good food served by nice people in a clean and modern environment, this is the place!

Something feels off here. The vibes in this place are weird and looking into the yelp page…read moreconfirmed my suspicion. First off, Im 100% sure the owner here uses ChatGPT to answer all negative yelp reviews. Any business owner worth their weight is able to think for themselves and use their brain to answer unless they're completely illiterate or too incompetent to think of a good response. Second off, are they even a brewery? I see cans and taps of their own beer, but looking into the business, I dont think they own a brewery at all. This is more along the lines of a taphouse/pub. THAT BEING SAID, the food is quite nice. I think the pizza is great and it feels like they make and roll their own dough which is respectable and ambitious for a random little spot like this. But It is quiet...too quiet. The beer tender would constantly hangout at the handicap table talking to any co-worker with free time on their hands for a long time. Seems like a cushy job honestly. I'm assuming they would hold conversation with customers, but unfortunately There were no customers... its a ghost town, and i left thinking, "This place is creepy." I'll just pick up and eat the pizza at home next time. I'm waiting to see what generic CHATGPT response the owner gives me.

I can proudly say I have tried quite a few things on the menu already and have not been disappointed. I'd say at this point my brother and I have been here over 5 times. We even brought our parents here twice already. Once for dinner and once for breakfast. My brother and I have done breakfast, lunch and dinner at this point. The first item I tried was the Sun-Dried Tomato Rigatoni. This was so creamy and delicious (later found out you cam add another meat). Which my mom tried her first time around with Salmon. She said it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. From that first pasta, I tried the March Month Special, I got the chopped cheese with no cheese (lactose intolerant) but man did I devour it so fast!! There tater tots never miss btw ALWAYS crispy. The Grilled Chicken Sando, mannn was thay superr good too. Chicken was juicy and always love me some avocado. I told my brother I am going to make it a priority to try everything I cam here. Also, the presentation on the plates ESPECIALLY the Fresno 1/2 Chicken *chefs kiss* The service is NEVER misses. Soo attentive no matter the time of day. Tony's drinks are UH-MAY-ZING. We had Mckellen as our server and he was great. The biggest shoutout to James (the owner) seems like he knows how to create a phenomenal work environment and keeps his people happy. We've seen him walk around often and checking in. You can definitely see thay he cares. I HIGHLY recommend coming here if you have the chance. Also, try the Espresso Martini my brother who is far from a coffee drinker even loves it!!

The staff was very warm and welcoming, though throughout the evening it definitely felt like they may have been short staffed and stretched a bit thin. Since we were headed to a movie after dinner, we decided to keep things light and share appetizers plus dessert. We tried the Fried Shishito Peppers, Veggie Potstickers, Grilled Broccolini, Rosemary Garlic Fries, Whipped Burrata, Garlic Noodles, Salmon Poke Tacos, and Lamb Chops. Overall, the food was decent but nothing especially memorable. The lamb chops were cooked nicely but could have used more seasoning, and the poke tacos were tasty but tiny -- literally about the size of my pinky for each taco. We were disappointed they had sold out of both the Crème Brûlée Bread Pudding and the Budino, which were the desserts we originally wanted to try. Thankfully, the Butter Toffee Cake completely saved dessert for us -- absolutely delicious and easily the highlight of the meal.
