We were in the mood for lunch and they were only serving breakfast that Sunday. So, we opted for the most lunch-ish thing available that wasn't too heavy. Bagels and cream cheese. They were perfectly toasted and there was plenty of spreadable cream cheese. It made for a perfect light lunch. I don't eat eggs, so it did limit my options. If you do eat eggs, their breakfast dishes with eggs look amazing. Of course, we tried the coffee. It was very good and we loved the mugs. The place is rustic-charming. The service was good. It's a busy place. We loved the regulars who stopped in and didn't even need to say what they wanted. The servers already knew. The service is good but slow. Not sure if that's because they were busy or if they're just not the type to rush things. The bathrooms are clean. There is an up-charge for credit cards. It's hard to resist buying mugs and coffee to take home. The cookies were so hard to resist we bought some to keep us snack-happy on our travels. Definitely a good place to stop.

While I haven't had the opportunity to try the entire menu just yet, I can say confidently the home fries live up to the hype. I understand why they're called home fries because they reminded me of home. It looks like they're doing some renovation on the second floor, I wonder if that'll result in even more seating. If that's the case then it'll take this cafe to the next level.

This was a great…read moreplace to pick up some cute holiday gifts (fancy dish towels, things for making craft cocktails at home, soaps, etc). They also make baked goods in the store. I loved that each item had the simple ingredients listed with it on the name-- this made it easy for needing to ask if you have food allergies, but also terrific to see that the treats are made with basic ingredients like you'd use at home! I tried a snickerdoodle whoopie pie with cream cheese icing inside. The cookies were perfect and the frosting was a bit on the super sweet side but that's how I like my frosting so it was delicious! My mom got a slice of pie- the flavor was pretty good but since it was kept in the fridge, the crust lost a bit of the crunch/flakiness. We bought a take and bake frozen raspberry pie for the next time we have guests over. Mom also got a brownie, which she said was very good as well. The wide selection of pre made salads and sandwiches looked great as well as the large selection of take and bake meals and side dishes. This is my favorite type of a local gem to discover. It's a perfect spot to stop on the way to or from Lake Placid. I actually visited twice in the same day! It's open Friday-Monday (as of when I visited in November'23). I think I'll actually head back to that area next weekend and stop back in to pick up a few gifts and some more baked goods! Update--- We also did end up going back to the shop the following weekend for some more shopping. Customer service could use some improvement. **As I said in my main review, we bought a frozen pie to take and bake. We baked it for Thanksgiving l there was no scent while it baked which was unusual. It wasn't the prettiest looking when it came out of the oven. More unfortunately, no one liked it! My mom said it was the worst she's ever tasted. The crust was so thick and the filling and crust both had a strange aftertaste. This was very disappointing because the treats we had in the store were delicious. If the review was based only on the pie, I'd be a 1/5 stars.

Best of all, I could race in and find the perfect lunch; I actually had a tough time choosing as the tempeh also looked delish. The only tough part is walking past the amazing desserts. You must be strong to resist!

Capisce Coffee & Espresso Bar - Hot latte

Capisce Coffee & Espresso Bar

Capisce Coffee & Espresso Bar: A Lake Placid Essential…read more If you're looking for a coffee experience that matches the beauty of the Adirondacks, Capisce Coffee & Espresso Bar is a must-visit. From the welcoming "a place upstate" Adirondack chair out front to the cozy, shingle-sided exterior, this spot perfectly captures that rustic, high-peaks aesthetic. But it's the quality of the brew that truly sets it apart. The Espresso The espresso at Capisce is a masterclass in balance. It's rich and full-bodied with a velvety crema that hints at the care put into every pull. You won't find any bitterness here--just a smooth, complex shot that serves as the perfect foundation for their signature drinks. The Lattes Whether you need to warm up after a chilly morning at the lake or cool down after a mountain bike ride, their lattes are top-tier: Hot Lattes: The milk is steamed to a perfect micro-foam consistency--silky, sweet, and light. It blends beautifully with the espresso, creating a comforting drink that feels as artisanal as the surroundings. Iced Lattes: These are exceptionally refreshing. They manage to keep the espresso flavor front and center without letting the milk or ice wash it out. It's the ideal companion for a sunny afternoon on the patio. The Atmosphere There is something uniquely relaxing about grabbing a drink and sitting among the trees and rocks outside this cabin-style shop. It's clearly a favorite for locals and travelers alike, and for good reason--the "upstate" vibe is genuine, and the coffee is world-class. The service is full of happiness. Final Verdict: If you are in the Lake Placid area and take your caffeine seriously, Capisce is the place to be.

The employees were friendly, and our stuff came out fast. I got an iced latte with maple syrup and soy milk, my boyfriend got a salted caramel iced latte with vanilla cold foam, and my friend got a drip coffee. The coffee was so good! The only reason I'm not leaving 5 stars is because my friend got the savory cheese twist and it tasted stale, dry and not like cheese :( but the quiche was very good he said. Overall I'd definitely come back for more lattes! I'm happy to have tried this on a trip to Lake Placid.
