What a gem. Beautiful location on the Ausable River. Literally felt like we were in an immersive experience with the overlook view of the brook aside the restaurant. The house rainbow trout in grand marnier butter was impeccable. Our wait staff Megan was charming and authentic. Brad, our chef, visited our table and made sure we were more than satisfied with the 18 oz ribeye steak. The positive energy of this restaurant really added to our overall 5 star experience.

I wasn't impressed by this place. We made a reservation over the phone a few hours before we were to arrive in Lake placid. They were able to accommodate us and we were told we would have a table with a view. When we arrived they sat us on the side of the restaurant with a view of the stream, we couldn't see the Mountain View, but it was still pretty. This place is pretty expensive for the quality of food. I wasn't entirely impressed with any of the dishes. We got the escargot and smoked trout as appetizers. The escargot was my favorite, I liked the presentation of it and it was yummy! Wasn't a fan on the smoked trout. I didn't like the flavor. For my dinner I got the campfire trout. I didn't think it was tasty. It came with risotto and vegetables. I would give the food a 2/5, and that's being nice. He got the duck and he liked it! The staff was nothing to rave about either. With so many other restaurants in the area, I wouldn't go back here.

This place is great! I've been here a few times. On my most recent visit, I ordered the fish and chips. I also tried the pretzel. Both of these were yummy. I came here for dinner with friends on a busy weekend. We were seated as soon as we arrived on the outside deck. The view of Whiteface was gorgeous and I was so glad that we had such a great view. Our pretzel came quickly. It was served hot and fresh. It was gone pretty quickly. But, between four people, it was big enough to share. I ordered the fish and chips. My favorite meal to order when I go out. The portion of fish was plentiful. And the fries were seasoned perfectly. They were yummy and flavorful. I would definitely order this entree, again. I'll be back again the next time I'm in the area for sure.

Overall 3.1 I'm must say overall a good experience with great ambiance. Were able to score reservations at the last minute. I wouldn't say we had high expectations but were pleasantly surprised. Two servers taking care of the entire floor and were quite busy. Still we didn't wait for anything and were served our courses promptly. We ordered a very nice bottle of Zenato Valpolicella Ripassa which ended up pairing well with everything. Starter course was the venison and wild boar stuffed mushrooms. The cheese took over the flavor profile completely. Second course wedge salad and lobster bisque. The salad was just fine crisp cold lettuce and accoutrements. Lobster bisque was like a double serving very large. Very rich and decadent bisque with an elegant velvety smooth finish. Main course J had the Roasted Trout with Lemon-Caper Butter. The skin was soggy and burnt and trout was overcooked. The flavor was lacking and underdeveloped sauce really didn't marry with the fish at all. The rice was cooked well but bland unless stirred in with sauce. Still not a horrible dish just not executed well. My steak and seafood trio was an decent try at a surf and turf. Filet was in two 3oz pieces (my judgement on size) I ordered med rare and it came out med well. Seafood was cooked well with some shrimp and chunks of lobster, served over mashed potatoes with a gravy / Demi glaze of sorts. The potatoes and lost lettuce Didn't pair well. Flavor and sauce was good. Overall the food was priced appropriately and not bad and not epic. I would go back and give them another shot. One thing I enjoyed was the wood burning fire in the entry way provided that smoky winter feel but wasn't facing the dining area which would have been too warm.

Great atmosphere, great service. To our surprise, our waitress, Megan, (whom we also had over a year ago) remembered us. The Hungry Trout provided a pleasant experience, from the host to the kitchen. Food and drinks were phenomenal. Wonderful to see a restaurant with employees who still take pride in providing the customer an exceptional experience.

You can choose from bar seating, indoor tables, or outdoor spots with a perfect breeze. There's even a big street-side table that's ideal for bachelorette groups or larger parties. The whole space feels elevated, cozy, and a little magical. Drinks: The cocktail menu is insanely creative and the pours are generous. Their espresso martini is one of my all-time favorites... I stop in for one every single time I'm in Lake Placid. It's that good. Food: I think about this food at least once a week. The menu is built around shareable small plates, making it the perfect pre-dinner cocktail hour spot for your travel crew. Order a couple of drinks and a few bites while you take in the lake views before your dinner reservation. My personal must-orders: the charcuterie board and the mac and cheese. Unreal. Price: It's on the pricier side, but genuinely worth every penny. For the quality, the atmosphere, and those views? Not overpriced at all.

The only reason this isn't a five-star review is that we had something unfortunate happen with one of my drinks that did not sit well with any of us, but otherwise it was a fabulous experience. Creative fare, unexpectedly varied and interesting drink options, some whimsy in the decor and menu design. Absolutely would come back. . We came here as a party of four at 8pm on a Saturday night. It was good we made a reservation because all the tables were full when we arrived. Food-wise, Fiddlehead Bistro has a diverse menu with eclectic influence. If the preparations seem ambitious for a little Saranac restaurant, the presentation presentation was equally impressive. I've been coming up to the Adirondacks for decades and while I've only been a self-proclaimed foodie for one of those decades, sophisticated presentation is not the first, second, or tenth thing I expect at restaurants up here. Don't believe me? Ask the dishes (Disney kids and their parents get it). Grilled Spanish octopus w/ fingerling potatoes, wild garlic, piquillo pepper, nduja mayo: A A solid octopus dish with sauces that elevated it to a high rating for me. The mayo plus romesco is a divine combo, great with both the octopus and the slightly crispy potatoes. Grilled asparagus w/ crispy poached egg, truffle dressing: A- The only reason this is an A- and not an A is because for $15 I'd expect more than four asparagus spears. The egg in part made up for it and the dish as a whole was delicious and thoughtfully conceived of, but given that I was splitting this with my partner it didn't really feel like enough. Miso black cod w/ shiitake, spring veggies, yuzu beurre blanc, crispy sushi rice, shaved radish: A+ My favorite dish of the night. Beautifully cooked, perfectly savory black cod prepared in the way it's meant to be prepared. The yuzu beurre blanc was heavenly, somehow both light and decadent. Tour de lamb w/ herb crusted loin, yogurt braised lamb dumpling, braised shank, creamy polenta, broccolini, red wine jus: A This was a fun mix of lamb preparations (a "tour" of lamb, if you will) with a lot of solid accompaniments. There's a restaurant on my block in NYC that makes yogurt braised lamb dumplings so I was excited to see them here. There was only a small amount of each type of lamb preparation so you can try it all without getting stuffed. All very tasty in the red wine jus, a natural pairing. Though I didn't think I was coming here for an exciting cocktail menu, I was surprised to see a lot of creative options in additional to some unique flights. For my first drink, I got the weirdest one on the menu as I like to do, but also because it seemed like a really tricked out dirty martini. It's not on the current online menu but I remember it had sake and umami brine so as expected it was salty and savory. The issue arose with the second drink. I ordered what clearly looked like an Old Fashioned variation. The only three ingredients listed were bourbon, smoked maple syrup, and black walnut bitters. I even asked the server if it was indeed an Old Fashioned variation and he said yes. What came was in no way the correct drink. The flavor profile described and what I received were completely different. It tasted like a whiskey sour and not even a good whiskey sour. My partner and my dad tried it and they agreed that it was bad and a mistake had been made. Now I really hate sending stuff back and feeling like a Karen but my dad has no issue being direct so he told the server what happened and the server looked very uncomfortable and I said I'd just get wine instead which was, as it turns out, a great decision because I had a delicious rose. When the bill came, my undrinkable cocktail was still on there and that didn't seem right. My dad asked the server about it and he said there was nothing he could do about it which is the first time I've ever experienced that at a restaurant
