I've been coming to Bark Coffee in Uptown Whittier for a while and generally like supporting local businesses. Recently I noticed a review mentioning that the younger employees sometimes struggle to keep up during busy periods and occasionally mess up orders. Unfortunately, I've had a similar experience more than once. To be fair, everyone makes mistakes, and working in customer service isn't easy. But after enough incorrect drinks, forgotten modifications, and inconsistent quality, I finally reached my breaking point. Ironically, I should probably thank Bark Coffee. The repeated order issues were the final push I needed to buy my own espresso machine. After spending some time dialing in my grinder settings, shot times, and technique, I'm now making coffee at home with a level of consistency and quality that honestly exceeds what I was getting during many of my visits. So thank you, Bark. You inadvertently inspired me to learn a new skill and save a little money in the process. Will I ever come back? Probably. If I run out of beans, need caffeine while already on the road, or don't feel like making coffee myself, I'll stop by. But for the foreseeable future, I'll be enjoying LARP Coffee from my own kitchen, where the barista never gets my order wrong. I'm not sure what's going on with this place. When it's the main woman working, everything is fine but when she has one of those young girls working with her or on their own it's a total disaster. Bark coffee is a gem and easily one of the top 3 coffee shops in the city of Whittier. For someone who works from home a lot and regularly chooses to work from cafes. This business has everything you need. Quiet, friendly staff and great coffee. The place inside is very open and spacious. There's comfortable seating and tables are big enough to accommodate large groups or laptops and accessories. My go to drink here is the Tiramisu Latte which is insanely good. The Flavor combination is top tier. I live how it contains its bitter/strong coffee notes throughout the drinking experience. I completely forgot to take a picture of my coffee, but we found this place after spending some time at Penn Park. It was a perfect afternoon pick me up. We got vanilla lattes with soy milk, a tiramasu latte, and a pistachio latte. We also got 2 bagels with cream cheese and an almond Danish. There was plenty of parking on the street and there is also a lot nearby. The service was super patient as we figured out what our friends who were not physically there wanted. The other thing is the prices. Where can you find a fancy latte for under 6 bucks? Here. The tiramasu latte was delicious and perfectly sweet. The ambiance is super laid back and they have a community wall with available resources like a yoga class for those with various abilities. You can also come here and work if needed. And you can get work done while waiting for your order. The service here is SLOW. I waited 15 minutes for my cappuccino and it wasn't that crowded. I do think they were tying to train a new hire, but even taking that into consideration I was getting irritated. That is, until I tasted my coffee. It's straight out of coffee heaven. Perfection! I ordered an "iced matcha latte" and I asked if that was sweetened or not. She said there were 2 types of matchas (sweetened and unsweetened). So I picked sweetened matcha at 50% sweet, which she rudely clarified that was not possible because the powder matcha is already pre-sweetened. I tried their Toasted Honey Latte with an added pump of lavender syrup, their Toasted Almond Mocha, and a Cafe Latte with pistachio syrup and they were all sooo good! My friend and I came here to do some work and also catch up. This is a really great place to go to study or do work. It's very quiet and clean, there are a lot of tables and chairs and most people in there are studying or working already. It's not ideal if you want to catch up with a friend, however, since it's SO quiet. If you're the type that doesn't want to disturb other people, lol, you will be uncomfortable talking at a "normal" volume. We still talked a lot--just quietly. Staff is reserved but polite. The pastries and sandwiches are good. The prices are VERY reasonable compared to other coffee shops. Inflation has hiked everything up but this place has excellent low prices, which was very noticeable. Love an affordable place. Lack of interactions with customers & customer service. Most times staff won't even greet nor smile at customers.They take down your order & quickly retreat. They act fearful/hesitant of the community or standoffish and it's odd at times. Living here over the years it's very culturally diverse. So to see other cultures come into other communities and feel no need interact professionally is kind of .. odd. It doesn't seem like an enjoyable experience to workers & will rarely acknowledge customers. They act like robots quite frankly. No smiling , no authenticity , no interactions, no community, JUST coffee and that's even starting to become mediocre.
