Larissa is so careful with him; everything is slow, he gets lots of treats for smelling the scissors and letting her snip, smell and snip, very slow. We go in together and get the job done. When one has a pet like mine, finding partners in his care is essential to securing his future. We have a regular vet, a behavior vet, a KPA certified trainer, and now Larissa, who helps us ensure our boy doesn't look like a little ragamuffin like he did when we rescued him, and helps us teach him not all humans are mean and can actually be really helpful. From the moment you walk in, you can tell how incredibly clean and well-organized the space is. Every single pet there is calm, happy, and clearly well cared for, which says everything about the environment and the people who work there. The staff is beyond friendly, always smiling, patient, and with the best possible attitude. You can feel that they genuinely love what they do. I bring my dog Maximus here for baths and grooming, and Renata was absolutely wonderful. She is highly skilled, confident, and calm, which is essential because my dog is NOT easy at all. She handled him beautifully and with so much care and professionalism. I live in New Jersey, and I still drive all the way to Astoria because this is the only place I truly trust with my dog. That alone says everything. The owner, Vivi, is a real animal lover in every sense of the word. Last week I took my cat here to be bathed and groomed because she smelled like urine really bad after being at the emergency vet. I asked them if they were able to provide her services while keeping in mind that SHE HAD JUST LEFT THE EMERGENCY VET A FEW DAYS AGO, and would need them to be extremely gentle and careful with her, especially her mouth area. They said that yes, they would be able to, and not to worry. They proceed to tell me that services will be done in about 1.5-2 hours. Well, 2.5 hours pass and I hear nothing from them. I call and they tell me that "soap had gotten in her mouth and she vomited" and that she's still not ready to be picked up. She isn't ready to be picked up until closing time, which is already 3 hours at that point. So I pick her up and go home. When home, I see that: 1. She is bleeding from the side of her mouth/face. 2.THREE of her nails had been cut bluntly and so much so that they were bleeding. complete neglect and lack of care & attention, ESPECIALLY from a professional. (Also see photos--I have a video too if interested) 3.She can hardly open her eyes and when she does, her eyes start ROLLING BACK INTO HER HEAD and some skin membrane starts to show and cover part of her eyes (see photos-- plus have a video of this too) 4.She STILL smelled like urine and there were parts of her fur that were still sticky not properly cleaned. 5.She was shaking and looked so sick and unwell Lastly, the most concerning part of this all was that before these people abused and traumatized her, she was starting to get back to her normal self. She was eating a lot, running around, and asking for pets. After the visit, she became extremely lethargic, wouldn't eat, and her health just went super downhill. I contacted them and didn't hear anything back until I had to call a second time. The manager texted me asking to send photos of her by email and I did send both photos and video. They never got back to me. I just saw a review left 3 weeks ago by Nikki Held saying they mutilated her pet and the company responded saying they have implemented "stricter protocols" and regret their "lapses in communication". This is obviously false and this same exact thing is happening with me. Lastly!!! According to what so many other ppl are saying here, a lot of these good reviews are due to the fact that they spam you for reviews in return for a discount. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. I am still waiting for a refund of what I paid. And whoever the groomer is that did this to my cat MUST be fired. There are times in life when you just can't have your best friend with you--as it was this past weekend, September 27, 2025, when his humans got married. We dropped Rocky off on Friday, and the staff even snapped a picture of him in his "My humans are getting married" bandanna, which was so thoughtful. One of the best parts of Dozo Dog is the comfort of being able to log into their cameras at any time. Throughout the day, I got snapshots of Rocky running and playing with his doggy friends, and before bedtime, they even sent me a "good night" photo. Knowing I could check in anytime gave me such peace of mind. Rocky has also been groomed here several times, and Amanda always does an amazing job--sometimes he comes home with a bowtie, sometimes with a bandanna, but always happy, and that's what truly matters. Over the summer, we even went to their pool party, which was an absolute blast--watching Rocky jump in and out of the pool with his friends was pure joy. However after Jenn left Dozo, we began working with Amanda and she is great! She seems to take really good care of my puppies, and they smell and look awesome! However, the whole experience was very easy and Fuji came out looking amazing. We chose to do the full grooming package, which includes a bath, haircut, nails, and ear clean. Fuji was so soft afterwards, and he also smelled so good. They texted us 15 minutes before the appointment was done, which worked great for us since we only live 10 minutes away. The price ended up being $18 more than what was listed on the website, but it was still cheaper than other dog groomers in the area. Only note I have is that when you make an appointment online, it says that the appointment will only take 30 minutes. However, the actual appointment ended up taking 2 hours. Thankfully, we made an early appointment, so it didn't end up affecting our plans. We'll definitely keep coming back here! The hardest part will honestly be resisting the urge to take him here every week.
