I've taken my dogs here several times, but I've had it with the woman at the front desk. When I was unhappy with the service there, she basically challenges me to go somewhere else to get my dog groomed. She belittled me, and laughed at me when I told her I wasn't comfortable leaving my dog there again. She had this "go ahead and do it" and a "you'll see" attitude instead of being apologetic. Instead of trying to one up your client and prove to yourself that you know it all and are always right, maybe take a moment to realize who is opening their pocketbook and paying. You're nothing without your clients. If you would've acted understanding and apologetic and showed some empathy to how I felt about the situation, I would've probably been back because the grooming wasn't bad. But they way you laughed at me and made me feel like crap made it so I can't come back there anymore. I have too much pride to return there after how you treated me. You lost a customer who has been coming there for years and has spent not hundreds, but thousands on two of my dogs. I'll never return because of the attitude of the woman up front. Especially now since I've discovered other groomers in the same neighborhood who do just as good of a job as you. Get off your high horse lady. read more

Great cat grooming service! My himalayan has had some horrible experiences with groomers in the city (came back with nicks, cuts, and bloody paws) but this place is awesome! They have a specific person who specializes in cat grooming, so they know what they're doing...I had them give my kitty a lion cut. Super friendly staff (they take specific styling/grooming requests) and my cat seemed comfortable, calm and happy when he came out. They obviously treated him very well during the process. I had a really good experience with this place. I was recommended by a friend so I had to indeed try it out. I made an appointment and brought in my dog. They don't accept animals without document proof of the proper vaccines. A women by the name of Maria works the front desk. I believe she owns the place. Anyways, you give them a time frame in which they have to do their job.. And they will have it done by then. My puppy dog came out flawless thanks to these people; perfectly groomed just the way I like it. The fur smelled nice and it was brushed very delicately. Our amazing 4 year old dog understands commands in two languages, is ridiculously lovable and totally sweet. However, she's got some crazy separation/anxiety issues and due to 17 hours once in a crate due to international travel, she's not too happy to be left alone. We explained this to Groomingdales and they were fabulous. They scheduled a time that Toobab could come in and not be crated/caged. They washed her, groomed her a bit and she even left with a smile on her face and a new pink bandana around her neck. This pet grooming palace is new to our little Hana, who simply loves the care that she's gotten here. The staff is very attentive, and our little dog leaves in a very happy state of mind. When the dogs have been bathed, they're allowed to play together (if they're so inclined), which results in a relaxing play date. CAT GROOMING! Yay.....finally a wonderful place that will groom your cat! I have a 20lb Angora that needs a major grooming about every 6 months. Wash, condition, blow dry and belly/bum shave. She loved everything about the staff and wanted to play with the little dogs too! Mary Ann runs a wonderful establishment and at reasonable prices too. They asked me to bring kitty early so that she would not be subjected to an entire day of barking which was very thoughtful. I highly recommend and will go back as well as recommend. This place is decent and my dog looks good after. but I notice that my dog get so nervous everytime We are passing by for a walk oneday, its time to go for grooming again my dog is completely scared but I still let them do the grooming I thought my dog probably just dont wanna be washed. But, this time when I pick him up I notice he keep licking his chest and saw a razor burn looks like he was shaved a little to much ended up going to the vet for some meds and him wear a cone for 2 weeks. Our old grooming salon in San Diego allowed the dogs supervised play time instead of just locking them in crates for hours. We were trying to find something similar upon our move to New York, so decided to give this place a try. We showed up to pick up our dog after his appointment, and yeah, he was running around freely with all the other dogs... seemingly dozens of them, climbing all over each other with no supervision to be found. It looked like some horror story puppy mill PETA advertisement. He seemed happy, although he was very high strung and nervous, which is very unusual for him. He had a couple of mats which we could not brush out and the lady we paid actually lectured us. She didn't give friendly advice on how to get out the knots, she pretty much talked down to us and made us feel like we're horrible dog owners because my dog had a couple of tangles in his fur. Pretty inappropriate to do to a paying customer or to ANYONE for that matter. If our dog was groomed how we asked, I wouldn't have minded, but he just wasn't. We asked them to shave him down completely. What we got back was a dog with slightly shorter hair, which was choppy, rough, and uneven. He had the typical cocker spaniel pouf on his head and a cocker spaniel skirt, which we specifically told them we did not want. Fine, whatever, at least he was clean. But THEN I heard one of the groomers SCREAMING at a dog in Russian. This is New York, it's CRAWLING with Russians and this particular Russian happened to be a paying customer standing in the store at the time and understood everything she was yelling. So the unsupervised dog pile + condescending lecturing + sub par not-at-all-what-we-asked haircut + hostile screaming and cursing + high price tag = will not be back. Yeah, my dog was clean and he didn't get attacked or catch kennel cough, but I guess I just have higher standards than that. I do not want to pay big bucks for my dog to have a crappy haircut and be verbally abused while getting it. I purchased a pair of clippers on Amazon, watched the instructional video and have been grooming him myself and, you know what? My results are identical to theirs, except that it actually turns out how I wanted, and way cheaper. So I guess, thanks, Groomingdales, for helping me find a new skill. read more

The did an okay job - but I'm 99% sure they drugged my dog in the process. That's the only thing i can think of as to why my 6 month old high energy pomeranian couldn't pick his head up or keep his eyes open for 15 hours after being groomed there. He couldn't keep his eyes open for the rest of the day, literally through midnight. I almost rushed him to the Animal Medical Center in the middle of the night, it was very alarming. He's been groomed twice since (not at this place) and I've never seen anything like that from him. It just bothers me thinking he could have been given something and the owner wouldn't have told me. My puppy and I LOVE Groomingdales! Her hair grows very quickly, so by the time she hit four months she was in desperate need of a full cut. I walked into Groomingdales to check out the facility, and they were incredibly friendly and transparent. A woman in the lobby explained that she had tested out pretty much all the top groomers in the area and that Groomingdales was the only one she stuck with. I made an appointment for my puppy, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they normally don't do full cuts for such young puppies because they don't want to overwhelm them and scare them forever, so they would only do a full cut if my puppy seemed to be handling it well. It showed that they put the dogs before making some extra money. When I picked my puppy up, she was happy as could be and looked simply adorable. We often walk past the shop since it's on the way to the Q line subway, and whenever the really nice women who work there are outside my dog literally sprints towards them, tail wagging like crazy, wanting to say hello. They definitely have to be doing something right for my dog to be that excited to see them. read more

This was my first experience with a groomer - my 15 year old Pit/Lab mix has always been a hop in the bathtub kind of boy. But I have a newly adopted Cavalier and she stopped letting me trim her nails so off to Groomingdales we went. I'm a dog walker and one of my clients uses this place (to great results) so I knew they'd do a good job. My little girl had been shaved down before I adopted her so she still has very short hair but her ears and foot pads did need some trimming. Well they exceeded my expectations. Not only was she shampooed - she smells divine - and trimmed just the way I asked but they made adorable little pink rose bows for her ears. They matched her collar and her personality. This place is wonderfully unpretentious, relaxed and warm. The dogs are not crated during their 'spa visit' so it's not a scary experience for them. NOT FOR CATS!!!!!!!!!!!! We brought our cat in to get his claws clipped based on the glowing reviews and were shocked. Dogs were barking and out of control behind the glass door and the place seemed filthy. They took the cat in and put him on a counter in the room with all of the dogs. The technicians were chatting with each other, not in any hurry to get the cat done and they basically weren't even paying attention to what they were doing. At one point, my cat nearly slid off the counter as the technician was clipping if I had not knocked on the glass door and pointed it out.
