I've attended various classes with different instructors, and they are all beginner friendly. If you have attended a yoga class before, then you should fair well in these sessions. The instructors there are all very kind and lead at a slower pace than I'm used to. The studio is spacious and it has never felt too crowded. There has always been plenty of parking in the lot. The only downside is the location since the lot is a tad difficult to turn into during rush hour. read more

By far my favorite yoga experience in Davis! I loved the Yin class with Christine; the small class size made it feel intimate, focused, and peaceful. As a first-timer, I felt very welcomed and comfortable from the moment I arrived. Christine did a wonderful job balancing the quiet stillness of Yin with clear, insightful instruction. I love the way that Mei teaches her classes, she is a great teacher and my favorite are the Warm Stretch and Gentle Flow, but her prenatal classes were excellent as well! I wanted to put out there that I've been attending Barefoot Yoga classes in Davis, CA., and I've really enjoyed the yoga classes taught by Mei, the owner. This is an unpaid and unsolicited review of her Vinyasa, gentle yoga, warm stretch, and yoga for neck and shoulders classes. I took the neck and shoulder class today. I have arthritis in most places, especially my neck and spine and her instruction really helped me to release the tension in a way that I have been unable to achieve at home alone. She's also respectful of boundaries. On my first class she asked about limitations and if I wanted hands on adjustments in class. I said no and she has been respecting my boundary for no touch. (I hear other people enjoy her touch, but it's just not for me right now). The only critique I have is that her "warm stretch" class is a little bit more vigorous than what I would consider a warm stretch (more like a slightly lighter Vinyasa with slightly longer warm up and cool downs). Please check out Barefoot Yoga. The studio is really clean. She has changing rooms, and a clean toilet area too. She has 2 week offers and also has other really reasonable membership plans and other flexible pricing options. Have been taking classes at Barefoot yoga for a week now. Just lost my wife and felt I needed spiritual and physical repair to get along with my life. Taking classes here has been a lifesaver. Had about 3 years of prior yoga experience. Wai-Mei Yeung is a fantastic teacher, very welcoming and open. She had a deep sense of spirituality that has been very helpful. I have to start off by saying this review is based on my experience at this studio a long time ago. But reading through the recent reviews, it looks like that the instructor with whom I had a bad experience is still there. So I felt it might be helpful to share my experience. I bought a Groupon for several classes and ended up going to only one. The male instructor I had was rude and racist. Throughout the whole class he was talking about his biased views of Asians and asked if I agree. I felt offended but also bad for the other attendees who probably didn't want to hear these remarks while doing yoga. I was shocked at the time and didn't know how to respond to those racist comments. But I regretted it ever since that I did not confront him. I saw other comments about him being offensive in other ways. Well, I can only hope he is no longer with this studio. read more

I went to my first class here recently. It was an evening "gentle" class. The class itself was alright. But, there were fluorescent lights on through the class, which made the atmosphere fairly unpleasant. Also, I borrowed a mat from the studio, and it smelled horribly of feet. The place could use a cleaning. Also, the teacher asked me if I had any injuries, and when I told her yes, she said, "You know how to modify though, right?" and I said, "Ummm... I'm not sure." And she got up and walked away. I laughed it off, but actually it would have been nice to have had some modifications provided, considering the class wasn't full, and I chose a gentle class specifically to accommodate my injured shoulder. read more

I've had great experiences in all the classes I've taken at Barefoot Yoga. I go to vinyasa flow and gentle yoga classes taught by Mei and Julia, who are great instructors, and I once dropped in on another female instructor's class (whose name I can't remember), which was also excellent. I like that it's not usually so crowded that you have to work to avoid touching the people next to you, which was common in other yoga studios I've attended in the past. The instructors also periodically provide helpful guidance and posture correction. However, they've never been too aggressive or assertive about it (i.e., they never push you too far past what your body feels comfortable doing to get you into the "right" alignment or correct you so often that they disrupt your sense of flow). I always leave feeling more peaceful, limber, and strong. read more

I went to the warm stretch class and it was my first time doing Yoga in person and Mei the instructor was so kind and really knew what she was doing. The flow of her class left my body feeling amazing and the atmosphere was so calm and peaceful! Deeply conflicted here. I love the classes I have taken with Jenna and Kaz over this past summer. I even got my mom to join the studio and come to classes with me... HOWEVER, and I see this echoed over and over again in other reviews- Robert seems unable to not be rude and snippy to students and instructors alike. He was rude to me the first day I came in. He interrupted my mother while she was signing up for a membership to berate an instructor within earshot of three of her students. I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and wrote him an email after this, expressing my concern. He never replied to my email, but today he was super rude and bossy towards my 73 year old mother because she didn't know where to put her yoga mat after class. He has an elaborate system of rules and will treat you like you are stupid if you don't magically know what he expects from you. I am bummed that this is really the only place in Davis that offers Kundalini yoga, because this is the second time where I've come out of a yoga class relaxed and had my mood ruined by him being nasty to a person I care about. It's frustrating and exhausting to encounter this kind of toxic energy in an environment that is supposed to be relaxing and nurturing. read more

I took advantage of the introductory special and have been attending beginner classes for 3-5 times per week. Mei is friendly, patient, and helpful in correcting my poses. Mei's classes were great. Robert touched me excessively at a class one evening that only had two other people who placed their mats towards the front while mine was towards the back. It made me feel uncomfortable and I usually enjoy adjustments. He also asked me a bunch of questions in quick succession before the class started which in retrospect seemed like a sort of interview. Highly recommend against taking a class with Robert if you have a history of SA. read more

Mei's class is wonderful and challenging. She is very attentive and respectful of the fact that everyone comes to class from different experiences and intentions. I'm a senior citizen and I haven't done yoga in years...and I'm definitely less flexible than average, but the classes here have made me very comfortable. I'm encouraged to adapt poses for my ability so I can keep moving forward safely and comfortably. I also can see that as I progress the classes will continue to challenge me. This is a wonderful new studio in Davis. It's located above Soga's restaurant (which is also next to Bogey's Books). I highly recommend a visit. It's a fairly new place but the instructors are VERY knowledgeable and experienced. Like good instructors should, they help you feel at ease with your own skill while helping out 'hands-on' as needed to guide you in your practice. The ambiance is very welcoming as you step into the warm orange glow inside the studio and smell the warm scents of incense and flowers. This is very conducive to a good 'vibe' and allows you to feel relaxed the moment you come in. Also, depending on the type of class, it is appropriately heated. I think right now there is a new student special going on: $30 for 30 days which is very reasonable as most studios charge $15 each class. I love, love, LOVE this studio and recommend it to anyone interested in yoga in Davis! So far, it's the best one I've found in town. read more

I love this yoga studio! Large clean room with bolsters, blocks and blankets. The room is warm, but not hot. Christine has great playlists. My favorite teachers are Christine, Wei Mei and Ildiko. pretty sure the others are awesome too. Lots of classes to fit any schedule and the candlelight classes are cool.
