It's a burger chain based on organic ingredients. It's absolutely fine. It's more or less on the level of other 'elevated' fast food burger joints. I'd liken it to a Zinburger only it's geared towards organic ingredients and it doesn't offer alcohol. Instead of a single patty, they're doing 2 quarter pound patties. They don't really cook to order. These patties are more or less well done. Their niche is organic ingredients and the choice of beef, ostrich, elk, or bison. From my experience, they all taste fairly similar, especially in thin patties that are cooked so thoroughly. You can chose from their signature combos, or create your own burger. I went with wild mushrooms on mine, a choice I simply wouldn't make again. I guess I was thinking the mushrooms would be cooked in some way, but they seemed like just raw mushrooms thrown on top. That's my mistake for failing to inquire. Sweet potato fries were ok. Would have preferred a touch more cook time to crisp them up a bit. Burger to bun ratio (brioche) is on point, especially with the double patty. Ordered lettuce and tomato on mine. Pretty chincy serving, with a very thin slice of tomato and a matching leaf of lettuce. Service was friendly. Person who appeared to be a manager was a bit of a control freak and a curmudgeon. Not a smile to be had by the manager. We were done eating a full 20 minutes before I was able to get anyone's attention to get us a check. My decision to pay cash led to an even longer wait, as the militant manager seemingly had the only key to the register to handle all cash transactions. Corporate policy? Trust issues? TBD! The ambiance is quite casual. The bar area seems silly and unnecessary given the alcohol-free setting. Perhaps that's for singles during rush time. Seemed a waste of space, as there are plenty of tables for 4 or more, but too few for 2. Not quite 4 stars, but better than 3, so a round up it is... Definitely a fine local option. I've passed this place so many times and finally stopped in for dinner the other night. My only regret is that we didn't come here sooner! They use organic and all-natural ingredients, and have an ample selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. We ordered the American burger, the El Matador burger, and a build-your-own with bison on a collard green wrap. All of the burgers were juicy, flavorful and cooked as ordered. I didn't even miss the bun with my collard green wrap. We ordered a side of onion rings/fries as well. The fries were a little soggy for my liking, but the onion rings were AMAZING. Perfectly battered and fried, and the coating didn't separate from the onion as you bit into it (the worst). Always a win when I'm here! Decided to get a late bite to eat and this place came to mind! We got there about 45 mins before they closed, but they didn't treat us as so, or try and rush us. Our waitress was nice, knowledgeable, and even let us sample a sauce. For my food I got the standard burger with pear jam instead of the special sauce and the half onion ring and half fry side, that my table split. Great location on Bloomfield Ave next to the movie theater. Not so great parking situation - typical for anywhere in Montclair. There are some surface lots and a parking garage nearby, but you should expect to walk at least a little bit. I was under the impression Bareburger was more like a Shake Shack type setup where you order at a counter. No, this is a sit down restaurant. If you have dietary limitations, this is your place. They have vegan, vegetarian, grassfed, bison... basically there is something for anyone here. Our server was nice, we told her it was our first time and she explained all the different options including the different sauces. Both my boyfriend and I got the El Matador burger, cooked medium-well. It was truly medium-well, to the point where I probably could have ordered medium instead. I really enjoyed the burger, it had great flavor and the toppings were on point. My favorite part of the entire meal was probably the onion rings. If you order a shareable portion, you get to choose 2 sauces to go with it. I recommend the signature sauce and garlic aioli, both were very good. Prices were on the higher range for a burger joint, but I guess that is what you get for an organic-grassfed burger versus your regular beef. I feel it was worth the premium price. The interior of this place is amazing. Super chic and well color coordinated. Loved the atmosphere this location has! The burgers were delicious. Surprisingly, they were also filling which is good considering the burgers were a little small. The only issue for me is that I think it's slightly overpriced. I absolutely love this place! I love burgers and I try to eat organic/non-GMO whenever possible which is very hard to do when you dine out. It's really a great option when I do recommend a place to eat with friends/family because who doesn't like a good burger? For what it's worth, the prices are very reasonable - you are getting organic, grass-fed beef and the ingredients are better than 99% of most burger joints. The fried pickles were good but you can definitely tell they are healthy. The way that Bareburger is set up kind of reminds me of Zinburger. In my quest to find the greatest hot dog in NJ...sometimes we come across a great burger joint as well. A couple coworkers and I decided to try Bareburger as we had heard great things. Normally, my hot dog chasing coworker and I are Five Guys guys, but Bareburger is NOT Five Guys- far from it. These folks use organic and 'eco-friendly' food and have numerous options for non-carnivores as well. I can't speak to their whole menu, but the burger, fries, onion rings, and chocolate shake I had/tried were all excellent. I ordered the Buckaroo Burger (beef, aged cheddar, smoked brisket, wild mushrooms, smoke sauce, on a brioche bun [990 cal]) and a chocolate shake and the table shared fries and onion rings. I loved the burger-though for the price it was a bit small. When the toppings don't cover up the taste of the beef they've found the right balance and this burger was done just right. The fries and rings tasted great, but were a little greasy and the fries weren't well done. My coworkers also loved their burgers (one also had the Buckaroo, but I just don't remember what the others had). All in all, we had a great meal here. I tried out Bareburger before catching a movie at the Clairidge. The restaurant is inside the same building as the movie theater. Talk about dinner-and-a-movie date potential. The inside of Bareburger is cute. The décor is bright and fun. There are lots of tables. During good weather, there is also outdoor seating. The restaurant is clean and the staff are quick with clearing tables. It's also very kid friendly. I went mid-afternoon, so there were a couple of moms there with their little ones. It wasn't terribly crowded at that time of the day. My burger was good. I liked the curry ketchup for my fries, especially because the fries were dry. My only thing that I don't like about Bareburger is that I just don't think the food is worth the price. That's just my opinion. The menu, the staff and ambience are some of the many reasons we eat here. The energy here fits us, it's not too loud, not too quiet, and lively. It's easy to find, but parking on weeknights can be a bustle, nonetheless, the experience here makes up for it. Today all four of us decided to dine here, we had some burgers, the duke to be exact. We figured we end 2019 with a bang . We anticipated the kids would give burgers a shot, but hotdogs won again, and so did French fries. For some miraculous reason, their favorite cartoon stays on each time we dine here, so that was quite helpful. We had some onion rings as well, and enjoyed it. We walk in and the place looks cool (wooden bar, iPad menus, intentionally gutted/unfinished ceiling). At the time there were more staff goofing off with each other than customers. We get our food surprisingly fast but it's warm (at best) when you're expecting it hot. Your shakes come well after you're done with your food. (Thank goodness they had a complimentary pitcher of water on the table.) You and the Mrs. only got a burger, no sides. Your kids ordered off the "Cubby Meals" section. You leave completely unsatisfied, not that full and you just dropped almost $80 (before the tip). I did dig my Velvis shake (cause I love Elvis and peanut butter, in that order) but one of your kids that loves coconuts hated his "Cococado" shake (coconut ice cream, toasted coconut - the first two ingredients listed) because it was overpowered by the lime (last ingredient listed on the menu) in there. You have to wear your winter coat, hat and scarf in here as it is FREEZING. No matter where you are in the place; each time someone comes in or out, the freezing cold air comes in and makes everyone and their food COLD. We asked THREE times for them to please turn on the heat and they just mumbled that they would try. It ruined the experience for us as we were ice cold. The staff are all young and apathetic. They really don't seem to care about service. The Burgers had rather large chunks of gristle. I spat out about 5 balls of extremely hard gristle from mine. BLECH. They were like mini rubber marbles. Fries were cold (just like the restaurant) and my 8 year old kid was expecting the standard crayons and paper to color while we waited (the Hoboken location always has those) but this place is far too cool for kids stuff. They do not have cream or half and half for their coffee and tea so that was crap too. Service was arrogant and slow AF. Once we ordered from here for delivery and it took over and hour and the food was.. you guessed it: COLD. Manager/Owner needs to send in an undercover spy to confirm what I am saying is true. What a pity; it isn't cheap here so I am not sure why they can't afford to heat the place or hire staff who actually smile, greet you and pretend they care. To find a burger joint nowadays that doesn't taste like every other burger you've had is difficult which is what makes this place so good. The burgers here are unique, tasty, and prepped with quality ingredients. They offer bison patties as well as the traditional red meat patty. I asked for a rare patty and that's exactly what I got. Love, love, love that. Knowing how to cook the right temp goes a long way with me. The taste is phenomenal. I also like that they offer brioche buns and not just the bland regular burger bun. They also offer a variety of sauces (aiolis, mayos, etc) to accompany your burger. The aesthetic is definitely a modern rustic, trendy, hipster-like vibe. It definitely works. Ambience is great for groups or couples. Casual vibes here, which I also tend to favor. As far as value is concerned, it's a home run. It's on the pricier side, but I honestly don't mind dropping it like it's hot if the taste, quality, and satisfaction is there. Portion size was just right and all is right with the world. The negative for me was the dilly chick chicken sandwich. I've heard great things about it but I honestly thought it fell flat to me. My experience here at the Montclair location was simply fantastic! I received a gift card from Bareburgers management department after a very unpleasant experience at their Edgewater location. I decided to try another location since I really enjoy their food and didn't want to completely shun them. I visited with my mother and niece for lunch. When we entered the establishment, we were able to grab a booth. The waitress came right over and gave us mini iPads which to our surprise was their menu. Very 2019! We ordered our meals with no problem and received our food in great timing. Our waitress was so attentive and so nice, I wish I knew her name to give her a proper shout out! I got a turkey burger with cheese, my mom got some type of healthy lettuce wrap with hummus and my niece had the chicken nuggets with fries. My mom and I shared a side order of sweet potato fries, definitely enough for 2 people. Since I'm pregnant and craving sweets lately, I got a black and white shake to share with my niece. My niece described it as, "mmmmmm.. delicious!" This location has a parking deck near and you can also park on the street with meter parking if u like. I have gone to Bareburger three times so far. The first two times, I have no complaint, the food and service were great. Our server was a lady and she recommend the mint chocolate cookies n' cream shake and it was delicious, I definitely recommend it! The last time (05/07/22) The food and shakes were great as I have always experienced it. I definitely recommend the wrangler, delicious! But, the service was disappointing. I had ordered a banana foster shake and I don't know if the server forgot or what exactly happened on their end. But, we had to make it to their attention that we were missing a shake. I was in a group of 3 people and all of us finished eating, it was time for us to get the check and leave and I have not received my shake yet. I was just disappointed and sad, I've been craving this shake all day to have to request it to-go and not have a full perfect experience.
