We weren't offered a second round of drinks until after we'd finished our food, and only got water with the bill. Weirdly at this point the server became super friendly - maybe she'd received some good news halfway through our meal, or was happy we were the last customers! Food-wise the cheese fondue and nachos with everything selection I don't think wowed anyone but were nice enough. My tacos were all fine although completely disintegrated once I added sauces. The carne asada was definitely more like braised meat than steak, but still tasted fine. The shrimp was again fine but unremarkable. Overall the taste couldn't compare to the fish tacos over at Fusion Lab. My taco dorado had the nicest filling (guacamole, chorizo) but it wasn't the best deep-fried taste - not sure whether that's just my preference or something about the oil but would give them the benefit of the doubt. The huitaloche enchilada wasn't that exciting in the end - basically a sort of mushroom flavour, I wouldn't go for it unless you lurve mushrooms. I think Yayo is right this would be good as a late night place for some snacks after drinking, however it seems to close by 11 even on Saturday so they might be missing a trick there. Overall I wouldn't say no to going back but nor would I suggest it.

Their decoration seems to be this weird quirky blue guy... is this Crazy Pedro? Lives up to his name anyway from what I can see. But moving on. You enter down some stairs into a basement space, which is dark, modern, and very Northern Quarter, right down to recycled aluminium lighting and filament light bulbs against bare brick. I like the colourful artwork though, and the music posters on the ceiling. It also has pinball machines, which is always a plus. It has a nice atmosphere too, friends meeting up to laugh and chat over big ol' pizzas, nachos, cocktails, and beer. As we enter, a friendly staff member at the bar welcomes us and lets us choose from the menu, giving us some advice on the pizzas, and when we decide we want to share a pizza, he lets us know that we can even have half-and-half on a pizza, so we can try a couple of options. Great idea. What's even better is that we appear to have arrived during Happy Hour, meaning a 16 inch freshly made pizza was only £10! Bargain! We opted for half pepperoni (classic!) and half The Cuban. Both arrived in decent time, and were hot, fresh and tasty. I particularly liked that the base tasted toasted, and wasn't soggy in the middle with the toppings sliding off into a fatty pile or anything like you tend to get with a lot of pizza places. The pepperoni was great, can't fault it, but The Cuban was really REALLY good! Ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, pickles (gherkin slices) and mustard, and it was perfect. It wasn't greasy, it was full of flavour, and all the flavours worked together really well. I would DEFINITELY order this again! So although it was a fleeting visit, I was really impressed. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, surprisingly good prices for the Northern Quarter, and damn good quality pizza! Go! Go now!

Even though it is a "chain", I like Mexican food and the person who is behind it won Masterchef years ago and there most be a reason why she has several branches of Wahaca around the country (I think about 27) and they have been around for more than 10 years. We decided to order a few things each and basically share. The friendly, helpful waitress, suggested how many of the different types of items to get per person. We got mostly tacos and was suggested to get either 2 each (plus a side) or 3 each. We had: Chargrilled steak taco Battered cod taco Carnitas taco (which was one of the specials) Plantain taco Buttermilk chicken taco Black bean & three cheese quesadillas Overall they all tasted good. I am not that big a fan of plantain so it just tasted OK. Also, I thought I didn't like black beans (I like the ones you have in Chinese dishes - the fermented dried ones) but I really liked the quesadillas. Maybe it was the combination with the cheese. The tacos were good - my favourite was the buttermilk chicken ones. (I didn't specifically say anything about coriander so luckily it was just mostly on the top of the tacos - and not too much. Phew!).

Situated in the upcoming revamped Corn Exchange building, you have a decent amount of seating in and outdoors (well a lot in the fake outdoors in the internal courtyard...) and it's bright, airy and generally doesn't feel too chainy. The food we had was all great - tasty crab and avocado tostadas, chicken tinga taco's and a really nice guac with nacho's. Having cooked a number of recipes (and the Tinga being a regular go-to meal) from Thomasina's cookery books, I still have to say mine taste better though ;-P Prices were fairly decent but the beer selection needs improving a lot. They just sell Mexican lager which isn't too shocking I can imagine but there's no other options in terms of beers and even Las Iguanas now sells Mexican IPA, Wheat Beers etc. Put it this way - I was wanting a beer but just decided to keep my money in my pocket and drink water. I'm sure I'll be back again regularly as it's the best restaurant Mexican in town (Pancho's will always be getting my casual burrito money though) - a welcome addition to the foodie scene.

Walked around the Arndale market to see about the place and it looks really good ... a proper street food authentic Mexican unit with all the ingredients on display, a cabinet full of hot sauces and chilli sauces and authentic Mexican items. It was great. I made my order through deliveroo to collect as I'm always a bit shy when ordering at a new place for the first time .. so order to collect on an app is perfect for me. I ordered the chicken tinga tacos (which were corn tacos so gluten free) and added tofu (for a cost) and had free toppings of soured cream, cheese, chipotle sauce and salad, and a bag of tortilla chips. The order came in an awesome branded paper bag and it was huge. The tacos were at the bottom and looking inside the bar, I didn't realise how big the tortilla chip bag was The food was great ... the container was filled to the brim and was so delicious. The salad was crunchy and fresh, the chicken came in big chunks and was delicious, the tofu was the best tofu I've ever had and they had rice on the tacos too. 10/10 would go back and recommend to anyone .. I need to try the burritos or burrito bowls next time .. or just have one of everything as it was so good .. and in the city centre too so if you're around and you want authentic, delicious, fresh Mexican food .. this is the place. As usual I have to look at the menu before hand to see whether it would" fit my vibe and I had a hankering for Mexican style food so this was my first option when I knew I was going to the city. The restaurant is in the trendy northern quarter of Manchester, on one of the streets that has been closed off so restaurants can have outdoor seating... and they look great ... I'd love to go back later in the day and enjoy a few drinks and some food when it's evening. Back to this visit ... I walked passed around 1130 because in my head I thought it opened at that time ... but it opens at 12 ... but it was good for me to find the building, have a last look at the menu and make a decision on the food I was going to have. When I went back at opening time (I always find it useful and handy for me to get entry into a restaurant when it's open ... it's a lot harder and more illegal when it isn't ) I was the first customer. I waited a little bit while the staff were getting everything sorted, went straight to a table and within minutes the lovely server came over to take my order. I went for the chicken blasts (Korean bbq flavour ... which from looking back at their name and flavour .. I should have realised something), the Birria burrito and the Fanta (wasn't feeling like a boozy drink this time). My order got put into the kitchen and I just had to wait for it then ... the server came back over and apologised my drink was taking a bit to arrive as another member of staff had to go get ice ... but to be honest, I wasn't waiting too long and I honestly didn't mind. When my order came I looked it over and it looked DELICIOUS. I started with trying the chicken and it was so tasty and crunchy and perfect ... and then the heat kicked in (but it was fine ... I'm just not used to heat). So there I was, restaurant getting busier, and me sat there looking at the window ... crying in public (not crying crying but heat tears) ... thank god for that ice. Went to my burrito and the beef was to die for ... there was a nice crunch to it's contents, and there were fries inside which I've never had before and it was just amazing. 3 napkins and Niagara Falls worth of tears later, I had finished ... ice in my mouth to try and quench the heat. The server apologised again for taking so long with the bill but to be honest, it was my fault for not saying I wanted it and it had got busy so, again, I was fine with it ... I had plenty of time. All in all it was a great visit, great food, awesome and very lovely staff ... 10/10 would go back again.

When we arrived this place was packed, which I took to be as a good sign. But the layout made me feel like it was some cafateria, I did not feel comfortable, and the waiiter seemed quite disgruntled.. Choosing a glass of wine we set off to investigate the food counters...The chinese was the nearest one, and I always like to start off with a soup to whet my appetite.. This hot and sour soup was not bad, but it is difficult to get this wrong. While I was slurping on this there was a ''chef'' on the meat section cooking steaks to order. See this should be an awesome idea ..however...even if I ate meat I still would not have touched this... He was quite a portly chap, and had the same energy as the dead cow on the grill..to which he kept aimlessly slapping with a spatuala...when it was black.he went over the guests and plonked it on their plate , which sounded like a tile falling off the roof.. Bravely after this performance I went to look at what else there was to eat. Here is when things get worse...I must have tried EVERYTHING from noodles, curries, rice, pizza...to be repulsed. Everything had been left cooking all day and our table soon filled up with full plates trying to find something in vain that was edible.. If I were the waiter I would have asked what the issue was, considering how many plates they were taking away... Eventually after trying everything available we admitted defeat and decided to ask for the bill..which came to £40... I was not paying this, and decided to pay what would cover for the drinks and left. After about 25 minutes and more people later, the staff with the clip board came over and said to everyone that they could buy a drink at the bar, which obviously meant we would be waiting longer! After another 10 minutes, he let 2 other groups who'd got in after us in first, so my mate went and asked about it. He made some excuse about us having 5 people!! Then a couple of minutes later he called us and told us to follow one of the waitresses. We sat down and she just walked off. No explanation, nothing! Luckily, one of the girls had been there before so we asked her if we went to the bar ourselves or did they come and take our orders. After a few minutes another waitress came and ordered our drinks. We then went for our food. There were 5 of us but only 4 drinks came! She just plonked the drinks down and walked off before we could ask her. Few minutes later another waitress asked us if we'd ordered tap water so we told her that we were still waiting for another drink. When she came back it wasn't the drink my mate had ordered but she said that was all there was!!! No apologies!!! Food was as expected from a buffet, ok.
