The Parmo (special)

When they first appeared in the city centre a few years ago, before we reached peak gourmet junk food, I had a lot of love for SoLIta / SoLita / Solita - however they want to spell it. I've been to their second branch in Dids more often than their NQ one and whereas the service has always been friendly and efficient, for me the food hasn't maintained the high quality fare of their early days. I have to agree with the reviewers who've commented that the food is on the expensive side for what you get - some of the burgers are almost £20; and this increases if you opt for one of the fancier varieties of fries. They will always have a warm place in my heart for introducing cheeseburger spring rolls into my life, but I have to say for the balance of value for money, quality and taste, Filthy Cow and Rudy's Pizza have Solita beat now. Tip: They regularly announce special dishes for limited durations - they're usually worth a try.

If you read my reviews (which I hope you do!) you'll know that it's very rare for me to venture out of Manchester City Centre without heading to a nearby city; however, the pull of the Beavertown & Andy Annat takeover of SoLiTa in Didsbury was too much for me to resist. A small queue had formed when we arrived for the doors to open, and when we did get to the 'front of house' they confirmed that they had received our e-mails regarding sitting together, which was a nice touch (it would have been nice to have it confirmed pre-event, but the end result is sometimes all that matters...) The menu looked simply divine - going slightly off-piste compared to the burgers, grills and cheeseburger spring rolls that SoLiTa offer on their main menu, this was a specially prepared four course adventure, cooked by 3 x UK champion BBQ-er Andy Annat. I won't go into too much detail due to the menu not actually being the SoLiTa menu, but if you ever get the chance to eat anything by Andy, please do it. Especially if it's pork-based, like the warm sweet & salty bacon popcorn we had to nibble on, or the bacon wrapped onion rings with our main. Beavertown provided refreshments - which I actually drank and enjoyed, so well done for getting that far! - as they are now being stocked at SoLiTa restaurants. Service was okay throughout the meal, though obviously struggling somewhat with keeping up with the large amount of people requiring their food at basically the exact same time; well done to them for coping! The decor at this branch felt a bit more grown up than the NQ original, with perhaps more of a family-vibe to please their local demographic. I'm looking forward to coming back and experiencing the actual SoLiTa offering.

Ok, so I loved what I got. A massive burger, and sweet potato fries. It was more expensive than I really wanted to pay, but the ordering service was great, friendly and efficient. The venue good, with lively but not too loud music. But, as a group of friends I value everyone getting an enjoyable meal. And a veggie mate really was unsure of her veggie burger being actually veggie! It took quite sometime to get the attention of our waiter. Eventually it was swapped for another meal - Hallumi burger, but even this lead to an air of untrust, especially around the cheese sauce. They behaved appropriately with the bill and stated that the veggie food was cooked separately, but I was left with the feeling that for the premium they charge this wasn't the total experience I was expecting. My burger was great. Cooked perfectly, and slightly pink still. I really loved their own IPA. Not quite the icing on the cake to a seasonal get together of a group of mates I was hoping for.

I had always wanted to try out Solita in the Northern Quater but whenever I went it was always to busy so when I was in Didsbury decided to give it a try. I love the building that it's in and what they've done with the decor. It's very modern but subtle at the same time. The food choice is amazing - especially if you're a meat eater! The bugers here are amazing. After following them on Twitter for a while they have come up with some mad concoctions but I think the one which tops them all is the Manchester Wheel (1 kg steak patty, 12 cheese slices, 8 bacon rashes and a litre of creamy sauce all placed onto a specially-baked giant seeded bun.) - I will be trying this out as they have just brought it back on the menu :) I would definately reccomend here if you're looking for a cool place outside the City Centre with excellent food.

Great atmosphere upstairs, it felt like there was a lot more space than the NQ original so it didn't feel like we were on top of our neighbours! We had the pulled pork sundae and baby back ribs to start. Both delicious although ribs a little over smoked for my taste. Huge for a starter option! Mains I went for my standard KFB order, why mess around when you've found something so good?! It was delicious as always, although perhaps over generous with the jalapeños! Tom had the chicken burger which could have a fed a family for a week! Sadly it defeated him Haha. Also upgraded to the chilli fries - absolutely delicious and everyone should do this, their smoked chilli brisket is divine. They lose a star as we were excited for the Advertised keylime cheesecake of the day only to find the board was wrong and that it was white chocolate. Change your board!! We probably didn't need dessert anyway to be fair!

This is one of the best burger places I have been to. I had a cheese burger with chilli chips it was lovely the chilli chips were amazing. The staff were really friendly and efficient and explained everything. I loved the decor it's really modern. I have only been the once but can't wait to go back I'm going to try the cheesy chips next time with my burger

Krabby patty with siracha sauce!

Really happy to see that Solita's has come to Didsbury! Great burgers and impressive hot dogs, including at 21-incher!! I came here with a friend and he he went for the teriyaki burger from the specials board, which comes in a black sesame bun, and I went for the Krabby patty. I recommend upgrading the skinny fries to the halloumi, which are really moreish.

Schnitzel burger w/ sweet potato fries

Great service! Fairly big car park outside. Menu had a great choice. I went for the schnitzel burger (see pic) battered chicken, pulled BBQ chicken on top and apple slaw, upgraded to sweet potato fries and onion rings on the side. It was delicious!!! I also had the peanut butter brownie which was very disappointing ( it was powdery and dry) good job there was ice cream).

I've lost count with the number of bad experiences I've had with Pizza Hut at so many of their…read morelocations most recently at their "Pizza Hut Delivery" on Oxford Road, Manchester in January of this year, but these bad experiences have dated back for a couple of years now, mainly in Greater Manchester but also including branches in London. So it may come at a great surprise that I actually found a Pizza Hut branch which wasn't complete and utterly terrible. This store is located in Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre near the Cineworld in East Didsbury located in a row of restaurant's which includes Bella Itallia, Nando's and Wagamama. I ordered in advance - a gluten-free hot dog pizza (Unlike Domino's who despite offering a similar pizza with gluten-free toppings refuse to let you order it on a gluten-free base after they force customers to order it online and pre-select toppings which don't include limited edition ones), I was able to do this over the phone meaning it was near enough ready to pick-up by the time I arrived, I didn't have to pay in advance either - that was handy! It's worth noting this store is open much later to any other store in the area too, it's one of the few "Pizza Hut Restaurants" locations again in Manchester area, including branches over 15 miles away to be open until 11 pm, with many closing at ten. The staff seemed super friendly too. My pizza quality wasn't as great - as always with gluten-free the base is rectangular, but I found the base to be bland, a little hard and soggy at the same time, it was a real shame too as the toppings on the pizza were good quality and the hot dog pieces were a really good idea for the pizza and everything was seasoned really well, but the whole pizza was just ruined by the base which I was virtually spitting out. A real shame. Much cheaper than Domino's too after Domino's introduced a system making it harder and more expensive to order gluten-free food, and while the base is a little hard, I was pretty pleased with this experience and I must add Pizza Hut's branch here at Parrs Wood in Didsbury is helping restore my faith in the company I've had so many bad experiences at, even though with base issues and parking (it is a good walk from parking up to the store, but its' the same with anywhere else in Parrs Wood) let this one down. 3*

Came here for a friends birthday - after some outdoor laser quest adventure nearby :) There was…read moreabout 15 of us I think. I went for the unlimited soft drink (Pepsi, Tango, 7Up, Robinsons) and for main I shared a pizza. The sharing pizza is larger than standard and you get to pick 2 different toppings. We went for the philly cheese steak and chicken supreme toppings. With a sharing pizza, you get 1 bowl (visit) to the salad bar - although I did kind of go 2 times (more like 1 and a half). Although the person I shared pizza with didn't get any salad so it balanced out! The pizza was not too bad. The steak in the philly cheese part with some of that really thin stuff - certainly wouldn't call it steak! The chicken supreme part was as expected - chicken maybe a bit dry. The unlimited drinks was all touch screen and as well as the standard Pepsi, Tango etc, they had different variations with added flavours. I went for Pepsi with hint of lime. It was a very tiny hint of lime though as hardly tasted it - if at all. The salad bar was your usual selection as you expect, although they could have done with topping up the breadsticks as none were left. So overall the food was "OK". Since it was a birthday, we had a birthday cake which someone had bought. When we were finished with meal, the lights dimmed a bit and then they came out with the cake with some candles on it. Although it wasn't like a Chinese restaurant where they have some music playing over in the restaurant speakers - probably a good thing! There was a bit of a wait/delay in actually getting plates and spoons for the cake and someone from our group actually had to go and basically get them herself. We also ended up cutting the cake with a normal table knife. Also, when paying the bill, it was overly complicated. People were paying for what they had but instead of everyone just paying individually and the money coming off the bill like a running total, they asked everyone what they had and then for every 2 people, they got a separate receipt?? So there was about 8 separate receipts and people just paying that. And as is often the case when paying by card, there was confusing involving the tip. I know its not the biggest problem I know but its the little things. So overall, its how a 2/5 is described as "Meh". Food as you expect - OK - but this time let down by the service a bit - a bit slow, the group bill paying process.

Pizza Hut - Can get the different drinks in "flavour" never heard of. Pepsi with hint of lime, vanilla, strawberry for example.

By day, Chicago Rock provides a decent menu, similar in scope to that offered by similar chains such as Frankie and Bennies or TGI Fridays. Main courses range around the 8-12 pound mark, and the portions are sizeable - you shouldn't leave feeling hungry! As with these other chains, the serving staff are all about tips and can be a bit in your face, but that's not a bad thing - you'll get all the attention you need, and shouldn't be left hanging round between courses. Starters and desserts are also plentiful and recommended, from garlic bread and appetising meat dishes, to luxury ice cream sundaes and good portions of cakes, there's something for everyone. By night, Chicagos comes alive with the DJ and dancefloor. The bar usually has good promotional offers, such as 2 for 1 on certain drinks, or free drinks between certain times. These attract a wide range of people, from students after a fun night, to older types who might just fancy letting their hair down. The music tends to be a mix of chart music and cheesy dance stuff, with the odd bit of rock and roll, disco and rock thrown in - something for all. The place is quieter in recent months than in its heyday, but it's a decent and generally trouble-free environment. Stag and hen parties usually end up here, and it's often fun to watch the singles prowling ;-)

The novelty wears off and the subject leaves itself open to criticism. Smaller, smellier and more tacky than I remembered, the burgers tasted worse and the portions felt smaller (although this is not necessarily a bad thing). Poor quality patties rendered what was an enjoyable experience worse than it should have been and a thin lining of grease over everything made the whole charade feel dirty. My 1/2lb beef and bacon was mediocre and my companion's pepperoni, tomato and cheese tasted like a cheap pizza; my sister's blue cheese was nice, however this was in no doubt due to the sauce managing to disguise the flavour of their value frozen burgers. What saved the meal were the fantastic milkshakes (Oreo, peanut butter and Irish cream, the latter turning out to be the favourite) and the ridiculous peanut butter crunch sundae, the toffee apple pie leaving us disappointed. £20 per head, which is what you expect to pay for a novelty such as this, and which is why this restaurant will manage to survive despite the food failing to live up to the kitsch glamour and the enterprising theme. Restaurants like this should never be harshly judged on their food, and if they are you're missing the point. It's about the experience, the novelty and the ride. It's a nostalgia trip for people who never experienced it first time round; an exalted view through red, white and blue tinted sunglasses at a specific period of Americana that is itself viewed through misty eyes. How many Americans revere and laud the humble pub, jellied eels and Beefeaters? Cliched, over the top and in poor taste, replete with a decaying Mystery Machine and muscle car in the car park (genuinely!), I'll nevertheless come back time and time again. It's enjoyable, and offers us Brits something different, and perhaps more importantly, fun.
