Mmmm beef!

Ahhhh Pancho's, you wonderful Mexican delight you! Pancho's for me is by far one of the best food stalls in Manchester Arndale Market, if not one of the best Mexican vendors in the UK! I know, big statement, but here's why: 1. Their ingredients are fresh and prepared daily - this might seem obvious but you can genuinely taste it especially when devouring a XL burrito! 2. The owner, Enrique, is a delight and very proud of Pancho's and the food he serves! Plus he's got a winning smile! 3. The Guacamole - so god damn good! Ask for double helpings, in fact ask for triple! If you're a guaca lover, like me, you will not be able to get enough! 4. The Beef! Not to be a creature of habit but I will hardly ever stray from a Burrito filled with their shredded beef and all the trimmings - every mouthful is a taste revelation and I just cannot get enough (when at home in Manchester). I'd also definitely recommend giving their nachos a try and don't miss out on their daily lunch deals! I still await a burrito to rival its authenticity and my enjoyment of it but continue to scout I will!

Mexican food is something that I love so I was excited to be taken to Panchos Burritos in Andale market for today's lunch. I went for the large chicken burrito that was filled with white rice, beans, onions, salad and guacamole. It was packed full to the point of being more of a ball when it was rolled, obviously I was not complaining and took a seat to tuck in. As well as burritos we also had a portion of nachos to share that were served with salsa and guacamole. All of the food was great, my personal favorite part of the meal was the hot sauce that was sparingly put onto the burrito, it was smokey and peppery giving the meal just the right amount of kick. I would have liked a load more but with how carefully it was put on I was worried to ask for extra before tasting it first. A lesson learnt for next time! I love this kind of place and getting amazing food from a local market. I would definitely eat here again....and again....and again. Probably for the best that I am on my way back to Birmingham today!!

Pulled pork express lunch deal - not a huge amount of food

One of the few places you can get a decent burrito in Manchester! I book marked Panchos a long one ago and have only just made it there today. It was worth the wait. I couldn't decide what I wanted but plumped for the express meal deal with a burrito, rice and beans for £3.99. A word of warning - this was an ok portion for me at linch time but it was really not lot of burrito overall and the amount of meat filling they put in was tiny. The small drizzle of sauce they put over the rice was also far too little and I couldn't taste it at all. I ordered the pulled pork and said yes to sour cream and hot sauce. I was disappointed by the tiny, tiny squirt of sour cream and I couldn't tell it was in there at all when I ate it. The flavour was still great though and I really enjoyed my lunch. I'd definitely go again but maybe read the whole menu and try something bigger.

In the surprisingly great food hall in the Arndale Centre, where lots of independent traders try and tempt people away from eating at Nando's, there are some awesome alternative options for your lunching times. Pancho's Burrito's is a small counter selling tasty and spicy Mexican wraps. Personally, I always go for the tortilla chips and guacamole dip. It only costs £1.99 and they're mega tasty. Like what you're eating? Then you can also buy some authentic Mexican cooking ingredients from Pancho's Burrito's as well and try making something tasty at home. Furthermore, Pancho (if that really is the name of the guy serving) is dead friendly. Good times.

So many great filings, so little time!

Definitely the finest Mexican food in Manchester, Enrique (owner) says they're opening another branch on King Street soon so watch this space

Ponchos have two outlets in the arndale food market. They serve burritos with a choice of fillings including chicken, mutton, pork, and beef. Their special is the chilli con carne, and they also offer a vegetarian option.

We weren't offered a second round of drinks until after we'd finished our food, and only got water with the bill. Weirdly at this point the server became super friendly - maybe she'd received some good news halfway through our meal, or was happy we were the last customers! Food-wise the cheese fondue and nachos with everything selection I don't think wowed anyone but were nice enough. My tacos were all fine although completely disintegrated once I added sauces. The carne asada was definitely more like braised meat than steak, but still tasted fine. The shrimp was again fine but unremarkable. Overall the taste couldn't compare to the fish tacos over at Fusion Lab. My taco dorado had the nicest filling (guacamole, chorizo) but it wasn't the best deep-fried taste - not sure whether that's just my preference or something about the oil but would give them the benefit of the doubt. The huitaloche enchilada wasn't that exciting in the end - basically a sort of mushroom flavour, I wouldn't go for it unless you lurve mushrooms. I think Yayo is right this would be good as a late night place for some snacks after drinking, however it seems to close by 11 even on Saturday so they might be missing a trick there. Overall I wouldn't say no to going back but nor would I suggest it.

I've always enjoyed the…read morelook of the restaurant from other reviews and pictures on social media so I decided to bite the bullet and take myself there. As usual I have to look at the menu before hand to see whether it would" fit my vibe and I had a hankering for Mexican style food so this was my first option when I knew I was going to the city. The restaurant is in the trendy northern quarter of Manchester, on one of the streets that has been closed off so restaurants can have outdoor seating... and they look great ... I'd love to go back later in the day and enjoy a few drinks and some food when it's evening. Back to this visit ... I walked passed around 1130 because in my head I thought it opened at that time ... but it opens at 12 ... but it was good for me to find the building, have a last look at the menu and make a decision on the food I was going to have. When I went back at opening time (I always find it useful and handy for me to get entry into a restaurant when it's open ... it's a lot harder and more illegal when it isn't ) I was the first customer. I waited a little bit while the staff were getting everything sorted, went straight to a table and within minutes the lovely server came over to take my order. I went for the chicken blasts (Korean bbq flavour ... which from looking back at their name and flavour .. I should have realised something), the Birria burrito and the Fanta (wasn't feeling like a boozy drink this time). My order got put into the kitchen and I just had to wait for it then ... the server came back over and apologised my drink was taking a bit to arrive as another member of staff had to go get ice ... but to be honest, I wasn't waiting too long and I honestly didn't mind. When my order came I looked it over and it looked DELICIOUS. I started with trying the chicken and it was so tasty and crunchy and perfect ... and then the heat kicked in (but it was fine ... I'm just not used to heat). So there I was, restaurant getting busier, and me sat there looking at the window ... crying in public (not crying crying but heat tears) ... thank god for that ice. Went to my burrito and the beef was to die for ... there was a nice crunch to it's contents, and there were fries inside which I've never had before and it was just amazing. 3 napkins and Niagara Falls worth of tears later, I had finished ... ice in my mouth to try and quench the heat. The server apologised again for taking so long with the bill but to be honest, it was my fault for not saying I wanted it and it had got busy so, again, I was fine with it ... I had plenty of time. All in all it was a great visit, great food, awesome and very lovely staff ... 10/10 would go back again.

Our server looked lile she would rather be somewhere else but sorted our drinks and food pretty promptly. The nachos were quite good but would give the chicken wings and fries a miss. Tacos come without much sauce and you basically just add your own bottled condiments - a really good place would make their own or serve with more punch. Interestingly, you can see a major difference in my photos of the tacos versus Jonny's - his generally look much better, they do come with a sauce on the side and unlike mine aren't covered in iceberg lettuce, which seldom improves anything. The burritos looked good and thought it was cool they come with a pot of sour cream for you too add to taste. Drinks wise only one beer on tap was available which is perhaps an indication of how not busy they are. Soft drinks limited to the standard options which was a little surprising givrn most of the chains sell Mexican sodas. They do serve in gorgeous glasses, I want them! We had: Chargrilled steak taco Battered cod taco Carnitas taco (which was one of the specials) Plantain taco Buttermilk chicken taco Black bean & three cheese quesadillas Overall they all tasted good. I am not that big a fan of plantain so it just tasted OK. Also, I thought I didn't like black beans (I like the ones you have in Chinese dishes - the fermented dried ones) but I really liked the quesadillas. Maybe it was the combination with the cheese. The tacos were good - my favourite was the buttermilk chicken ones. (I didn't specifically say anything about coriander so luckily it was just mostly on the top of the tacos - and not too much. Situated in the upcoming revamped Corn Exchange building, you have a decent amount of seating in and outdoors (well a lot in the fake outdoors in the internal courtyard...) and it's bright, airy and generally doesn't feel too chainy. The food we had was all great - tasty crab and avocado tostadas, chicken tinga taco's and a really nice guac with nacho's. Having cooked a number of recipes (and the Tinga being a regular go-to meal) from Thomasina's cookery books, I still have to say mine taste better though ;-P Prices were fairly decent but the beer selection needs improving a lot. They just sell Mexican lager which isn't too shocking I can imagine but there's no other options in terms of beers and even Las Iguanas now sells Mexican IPA, Wheat Beers etc. Put it this way - I was wanting a beer but just decided to keep my money in my pocket and drink water. I'm sure I'll be back again regularly as it's the best restaurant Mexican in town (Pancho's will always be getting my casual burrito money though) - a welcome addition to the foodie scene.

I'd seen some terrible reviews of La Casita online but if being a person who writes online…read morerestaurant reviews teaches you anything, it's when other ones are not totally legit. So I ignored them and went anyway and I'm glad I did because it was a really delicious, good value meal with great friendly service. Rich and I shared the choriqueso and the guacamole bowl to start. The choriqueso as you may be able to guess is a ton of chorizo with a ton of melted cheese. Of course this was bloody delicious. The guacamole was good too, I'm not sure what was achieved by it being in a tortilla bowl but it definite didn't detract from anything. For mains I had tacos el pastor and Rich had fajitas with chicken and chorizo. The tacos were great - no weird hard shells here - and the filling very tasty. If I had any complaints here it would be that the meat had a slightly 'chalky' aftertaste, so possibly I'd try another taco filling on another visit. The hot sauce that comes with the tacos is pretty bloody hot, believe them when they say that. Rich's only complaint was that the fajitas came with a large amount of filling and only two small tortillas. To drink I had a bottle of Sol and a very good, very strong margarita. Rich had a pint of lager and a rum and coke. For two starters, two mains and four drinks we paid around £50 which I thought was pretty good. I'll definitely be back! I made a major foodie error, and ordered the Cochinita Pibil burrito for my main, which is basically an upsacle non-fried version of the Chimichangas - in my defence: PULLED PORK! The Cochinita Pibil was slow cooked pulled-pork marinated in oranges, lime and traditional Mayan flavouring, and was spot on! I HAVE NO REGRETS The restaurant is a quaint little place at the Chorlton end of Barlow Moor Road, with a large open window and terrace, which is great on a warm Summers' night like on the night I visited. That sounds good in a way but wasn't actually too fast - before I had decided what I wanted (toppings) it was being wrapped! Now the burrito I had was OK - average. Shame they don't have any wholemeal wraps and more than one rice option. Also, there was no sauces they added to the burrito - so almost was a bit dry, in a way. The burrito was OK as I said but tasted all "separate". One bite was all rice, the next was all meat and then another bite was all just salad. The way its wrapped? How ingredients are positioned in the wrap?? I then went shortly after, I think the next day, to try it out again. I got a voucher on the opening day so used this - got a free lemonade. The voucher actually has 2 other options - free tortilla chips and free guacamole. Actually, that leads me on to the guacamole. Normally its £1 extra. I expect guacamole to be included in a burrito! And even if it isn't, £1??! And I thought it didn't taste that good. Chilango do sell other things other than burritos such as nachos, nudos, tacos - which I may try one time. However, I am not as likely to have a burrito again. Although they are OK, Changos is pretty much just across the road and I much prefer their burritos. As well as better tasting, you get option on wholemeal wraps, couple different rices and with the different sauces, it was more "together". And of course if I wanted the best burrito in Manchester, I would go to Panchos which is about 5 ish minutes away. I have reviewed the Panchos in Arndale Centre and just reviewed the one off Oxford Road). One thing to add about Chilango though is the service. Very friendly. Upbeat.
