Super Nachos
Nicola S.

I'm over in Manchester with work and thought I would give this place a try after passing it earlier, on first look it is an up and coming fresh vibrant restaurant with high tables and window stools which gives the passerby the chance to see the massive beer/margarita concoction on offer, however once you go in you quickly realise it's a run of a mill fast food joint. Nevertheless I thought I would give it a try, I ordered the super nachos which are provided with a choice of meat, I chose chicken, beans (I was advised that they recommend the black beans in a caramelised onion sauce) who am I to argue with the Mexican gods! Cheese, Lettuce and salsa, I chose a mild salsa but was able to spice it up with the chilli sauces on offer on the tables. All in all was a big portion and full of beans (pardon the pun!) however to my disappointment it was cold and therefore I didn't get the gooey melted cheese goodness which I know and love from a nacho. The food itself was nice and the portion was very filling however I did leave feeling a tad disappointed. Maybe I just chose the wrong thing as the burritos looked good but as they are served using the same food as the nachos I think they wouldn't be the warmest either. Such a pity

This is one of the best Mexican restaurants in town. The food is one of the best quality. Staff are very friendly and very helpful nothing is too much trouble. Very good value for money that's why you're getting five stars

Simple yet wonderful burrito

I'd seen some terrible reviews of La Casita online but if being a person who writes online…read morerestaurant reviews teaches you anything, it's when other ones are not totally legit. So I ignored them and went anyway and I'm glad I did because it was a really delicious, good value meal with great friendly service. Rich and I shared the choriqueso and the guacamole bowl to start. The choriqueso as you may be able to guess is a ton of chorizo with a ton of melted cheese. Of course this was bloody delicious. The guacamole was good too, I'm not sure what was achieved by it being in a tortilla bowl but it definite didn't detract from anything. For mains I had tacos el pastor and Rich had fajitas with chicken and chorizo. The tacos were great - no weird hard shells here - and the filling very tasty. If I had any complaints here it would be that the meat had a slightly 'chalky' aftertaste, so possibly I'd try another taco filling on another visit. The hot sauce that comes with the tacos is pretty bloody hot, believe them when they say that. Rich's only complaint was that the fajitas came with a large amount of filling and only two small tortillas. To drink I had a bottle of Sol and a very good, very strong margarita. Rich had a pint of lager and a rum and coke. For two starters, two mains and four drinks we paid around £50 which I thought was pretty good. I'll definitely be back! I just hope it sticks around as businesses seem to come and go in this location (so go support them!).

A layer of lettuce sat on top with cream served with pico de gallo (Fresh Mexican salsa), and a spicy dipping sauce. The pulled pork was juicy and full of flavour, the outside was nice and crispy, and the spicy sauce was the perfect addition. I made a major foodie error, and ordered the Cochinita Pibil burrito for my main, which is basically an upsacle non-fried version of the Chimichangas - in my defence: PULLED PORK! The Cochinita Pibil was slow cooked pulled-pork marinated in oranges, lime and traditional Mayan flavouring, and was spot on! I HAVE NO REGRETS The restaurant is a quaint little place at the Chorlton end of Barlow Moor Road, with a large open window and terrace, which is great on a warm Summers' night like on the night I visited. The inside is filled with Mexican style décor, like an awesome painting depicted Cinco de Mayo celebrations. The price was very reasonable and service was great, friendly and attentive, and I will definitely return to sample the guacamole, and bigger variety of their dishes.

There was nothing here that I thought was really tasty, but nothing terrible either…read more Service was slightly odd, our server took about 30 mins to bring food menus and did not understand me asking about recommendations for frozen margarita. We weren't offered a second round of drinks until after we'd finished our food, and only got water with the bill. Weirdly at this point the server became super friendly - maybe she'd received some good news halfway through our meal, or was happy we were the last customers! Food-wise the cheese fondue and nachos with everything selection I don't think wowed anyone but were nice enough. My tacos were all fine although completely disintegrated once I added sauces. The carne asada was definitely more like braised meat than steak, but still tasted fine. The shrimp was again fine but unremarkable. Overall the taste couldn't compare to the fish tacos over at Fusion Lab. My taco dorado had the nicest filling (guacamole, chorizo) but it wasn't the best deep-fried taste - not sure whether that's just my preference or something about the oil but would give them the benefit of the doubt. The huitaloche enchilada wasn't that exciting in the end - basically a sort of mushroom flavour, I wouldn't go for it unless you lurve mushrooms. I think Yayo is right this would be good as a late night place for some snacks after drinking, however it seems to close by 11 even on Saturday so they might be missing a trick there. Overall I wouldn't say no to going back but nor would I suggest it.

Even though it is a "chain", I like Mexican food and the person who is behind it won Masterchef years ago and there most be a reason why she has several branches of Wahaca around the country (I think about 27) and they have been around for more than 10 years. We decided to order a few things each and basically share. The friendly, helpful waitress, suggested how many of the different types of items to get per person. We got mostly tacos and was suggested to get either 2 each (plus a side) or 3 each. We had: Chargrilled steak taco Battered cod taco Carnitas taco (which was one of the specials) Plantain taco Buttermilk chicken taco Black bean & three cheese quesadillas Overall they all tasted good. I am not that big a fan of plantain so it just tasted OK. Also, I thought I didn't like black beans (I like the ones you have in Chinese dishes - the fermented dried ones) but I really liked the quesadillas. Maybe it was the combination with the cheese. The tacos were good - my favourite was the buttermilk chicken ones. (I didn't specifically say anything about coriander so luckily it was just mostly on the top of the tacos - and not too much. Situated in the upcoming revamped Corn Exchange building, you have a decent amount of seating in and outdoors (well a lot in the fake outdoors in the internal courtyard...) and it's bright, airy and generally doesn't feel too chainy. The food we had was all great - tasty crab and avocado tostadas, chicken tinga taco's and a really nice guac with nacho's. Having cooked a number of recipes (and the Tinga being a regular go-to meal) from Thomasina's cookery books, I still have to say mine taste better though ;-P Prices were fairly decent but the beer selection needs improving a lot. They just sell Mexican lager which isn't too shocking I can imagine but there's no other options in terms of beers and even Las Iguanas now sells Mexican IPA, Wheat Beers etc. Put it this way - I was wanting a beer but just decided to keep my money in my pocket and drink water. I'm sure I'll be back again regularly as it's the best restaurant Mexican in town (Pancho's will always be getting my casual burrito money though) - a welcome addition to the foodie scene.

Once we walked in the host that came to the door at first was trying to tell us if we didn't have a reservation then they didn't have room....I was confused because even though today was one of days of Pride, their restaurant wasn't full at all. (Wish I took a picture). I then asked why we can't sit at the bar...the host wasn't sure so he went and asked the manager and the manager stated why can't they. Alright so my point lol. We sat at the high bar tables and they explained that you can scan the QR code or just order at the bar. The bar option was easier for us since it was a group. Made our order at the bar and that was simple. Now the 2 for 1 drinks start coming out and the first one was VERY lack luster. It was the passion fruit mojito which tasted like mint fruit juice. I did not taste a lick of alcohol. (Just an FYI the 2 for 1 drinks apply to all cocktails). We then receive another drink which I can't remember the name and it was decent but I was good with water after that one since it once again tasted like fruit juice. Once the food starts coming out, I'm excited! The guac and chips, they actually made it into nachos...apparently guac and chips with salsa is something people don't normally order....so after some explaining then they understood what was needed. When the Moqueca came out it smelt so delicious!! Oddly enough the appetizer came out with the entree as well. The one I tried was the mango and cheese empanada. It was pretty good...nothing to rave about. Alright back to the Moqueca, it was delicious. For warn you that you do have to de shell the shrimp and clams but besides that it was great! It's not 100 percent like the original but they did a great job. All in all the restaurant was decent. Interestingly, you can see a major difference in my photos of the tacos versus Jonny's - his generally look much better, they do come with a sauce on the side and unlike mine aren't covered in iceberg lettuce, which seldom improves anything. The burritos looked good and thought it was cool they come with a pot of sour cream for you too add to taste. As usual I have to look at the menu before hand to see whether it would" fit my vibe and I had a hankering for Mexican style food so this was my first option when I knew I was going to the city. The restaurant is in the trendy northern quarter of Manchester, on one of the streets that has been closed off so restaurants can have outdoor seating... and they look great ... I'd love to go back later in the day and enjoy a few drinks and some food when it's evening. Back to this visit ... I walked passed around 1130 because in my head I thought it opened at that time ... but it opens at 12 ... but it was good for me to find the building, have a last look at the menu and make a decision on the food I was going to have. When I went back at opening time (I always find it useful and handy for me to get entry into a restaurant when it's open ... it's a lot harder and more illegal when it isn't ) I was the first customer. I waited a little bit while the staff were getting everything sorted, went straight to a table and within minutes the lovely server came over to take my order. I went for the chicken blasts (Korean bbq flavour ... which from looking back at their name and flavour .. I should have realised something), the Birria burrito and the Fanta (wasn't feeling like a boozy drink this time). My order got put into the kitchen and I just had to wait for it then ... the server came back over and apologised my drink was taking a bit to arrive as another member of staff had to go get ice ... but to be honest, I wasn't waiting too long and I honestly didn't mind. When my order came I looked it over and it looked DELICIOUS. I started with trying the chicken and it was so tasty and crunchy and perfect ... and then the heat kicked in (but it was fine ... I'm just not used to heat). So there I was, restaurant getting busier, and me sat there looking at the window ... crying in public (not crying crying but heat tears) ... thank god for that ice. Went to my burrito and the beef was to die for ... there was a nice crunch to it's contents, and there were fries inside which I've never had before and it was just amazing. 3 napkins and Niagara Falls worth of tears later, I had finished ... ice in my mouth to try and quench the heat. The server apologised again for taking so long with the bill but to be honest, it was my fault for not saying I wanted it and it had got busy so, again, I was fine with it ... I had plenty of time. All in all it was a great visit, great food, awesome and very lovely staff ... 10/10 would go back again.
