Finally…read moregot the chance to try it, and I don't know if the built up anticipation caused me to expect more or the restaurant just didn't meet some minimum standards. The host who sat us was friendly enough. The restaurant is spacious with the expected Mexican decorations. Our table was not clean, and the host didn't notice. I asked the next person who came by to clean it, and she was happy to do it. It gave me hope that this was a minor issue, and we'd enjoy the rest. Unfortunately, it was the least of the issues. The server kept forgetting things we asked for and disappeared. We never got a refill on anything. He came back and apologized, but it seemed disingenuous. We were happy to leave, and unfortunately, we might not return - at least until we forget about this experience. Like: Quesadilla (flavorful steak, but one side did not have any on it); cheese dip (didn't get a refill on chips) Dislike: Hawaiian fajitas (great flavor; steak was tough with gristles); service (kept forgetting things, didn't refill anything, disappeared)

The booth was very cramped ... but we made it work…read more The restaurant was decorated in a typical Mexican restaurant way with bold colors and items from Mexican places around strategically. The menu was disappointing kind of big but it was a more Americanized version of Mexican food and I was looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant for dinner. The photos of the food are of more authentic dishes, but when you come in, read the descriptions on the items you realize that the owners have pretty much designed or reimagined all the dishes but for an more American target audience - not a bad thing for them but not the experience I wanted. I order the flautas (rolled tacos) 4 came with the order, guac & sour cream plus lettuce and tomato (I asked for them to leave that off I wasn't going to eat it anyway) no rice or beans I had to order that extra (‍) My son ordered a French fry appetizer My mom a chicken & steak plate. The chips & salsa were ok. Salsa lacked any real spice or flavor it tasted like tomato and oregano. I didn't have any. I ordered an horchata & it was fresh & delicious & the mug it came in was also pretty cool looking. My son really enjoyed his fried zero complaints there they had queso, chorizo & pico on them. My mom enjoyed her plate as well. My food was "ok" the meat in my flautas lacked seasoning & they were extremely greasy. The guacamole was tasteless & looked very unappealing so I didn't eat that, the rice & beans were very good delicious actually, the rice was probably my favorite part of my meal. Overall good definitely not terrible just not terribly authentic maybe somewhere in the middle.

The medium margarita on the rocks was exactly what you'd expect from a standard house margarita. It…read morewas balanced enough, but ultimately forgettable--pleasant, yet lacking anything distinctive or memorable. The combo appetizer was largely disappointing and difficult to justify for the price. The chicken quesadilla was bland and desperately needed seasoning. The fritters were even more underwhelming, tasting primarily of fryer oil with no texture, depth, or discernible flavor. The lone bright spot was the chorizo-stuffed jalapeños, which were flavorful, well-prepared, and easily the best item on the appetizer platter. The accompanying chipotle ranch was also excellent and complemented them nicely. The salsa, however, completely stole the show. It's still my favorite salsa anywhere in the Columbus area by a wide margin. The complimentary chips arrived warm and fresh, an often-overlooked detail that made an immediate positive impression. The guacamole had a smooth, fresh texture but was noticeably under-seasoned and needed more salt. The portion size was also disappointingly small considering the price. The combination plate featuring the chile poblano and steak chimichanga was the evening's biggest letdown. The refried beans tasted as though they had been scooped straight from a can, while the rice was one of the few successes of the meal--well-seasoned, perfectly cooked, and fluffy. The chile poblano was shockingly small, easily the smallest I've ever been served, and lacked any real character. The ground beef filling was bland, resulting in little more than a soft, flavorless mound. The steak chimichanga was equally disappointing in both size and execution. It was so small it looked more appropriate for a children's menu. While the steak itself was tender, it lacked seasoning and was excessively greasy. I found myself repeatedly pouring salsa over nearly every bite just to introduce some flavor to the plate. The Plato Loco continued the trend of undersized portions. Once again, the rice was cooked beautifully, and the meat itself was tender, but the overall dish was remarkably bland. Nearly all of the flavor came from the cheese sauce rather than the ingredients themselves. On a positive note, the extra tortillas arrived piping hot, fresh, and delicious. Unfortunately, the service mirrored the kitchen's inconsistency. Our server was largely absent throughout the meal. Drinks sat empty multiple times, our basket of chips often remained without salsa, and we repeatedly had to flag him down for refills and basic table service. This restaurant was once my favorite Mexican restaurant in Columbus, which makes this visit especially disappointing. Whether the focus has shifted to the newer Phoenix City location or something else has changed behind the scenes, the difference is impossible to ignore. The generous portions that once set this restaurant apart have shrunk dramatically, and the bold flavors that kept us coming back have largely disappeared. Aside from the outstanding salsa and a few isolated highlights, this meal felt uninspired and poorly executed. It was a disappointing experience that leaves me questioning whether I'll be returning anytime soon.

This is basically pimento cheese in a wonton, wrapper fried and served with pepper jelly. This was worth the trip. The tastiest thing I've had in a long time. I could've eaten the whole tray by myself. I had the the grilled pork chop with stir fried cabbage and fried okra and sweet peppers. The pork chop came with gravy, but I really don't think it needed it. It was tender and juicy by itself. The cabbage was wonderful and they fried the okra pods whole with sweet peppers. This was enjoyable. You can get this as an appetizer as well. My wife had the bourbon glaze salmon. It was very good as well. She had it with a zucchini and a side salad. I did not taste those, but she enjoyed them both. The crowd was thin, but I really hope this place catches on. I'll be thinking about those cheese wontons for a while.
