Ben was my bartender. Great conversation and it was super slow in the bar. Ben was able to break down all of the beers for me and I started off with a flight of 6 different beers and ended with Pilsner before heading back to the hotel. I was able to try their flagship West Coast IPA, Nitro Irish Stout, Bikini Sour, Hazy IPA, Bock and their wolf moon. My night cap was their Crispy Bois Pilsner. I did try the Fresh Pacific Pale (but ended up not liking it, plus they were trying a fresh hop juice). Great beer for the most part. The staff was very easy to talk to and definitely see being friends in my life besides Yelp. I would highly recommend going their to check it out. But if you want to see Ben I highly going in on a Monday since those are the days that he works. Since he is a part timer, because he is also a farmer. Solid people all around. read more

So happy to finally have discovered this charming brewery! Tremendous service from bartender BJ who recommended Bock and a little splash of Chocolate Pretzel for added sweetness. Yes! Genius! I leaned in all sweet for my second glass with Maple Bar--almost like a port. BJ was great about offering tastes. We learned all the beers constantly change--except #1 Little Wolf. I got to try Barbarian Brewing at their downtown location recently. I was at their other location in 2022. At this point... and I haven't been to all of the Boise breweries but Barbarian thus far is one of my favorite breweries in the city. I have some other favorites too but Barbarian is one of them. For their downtown location I got their Gose Bang Bang! which was a fruited gose from their Candy Sour series. Flavor highlights to find with this great gose are grapefruit, peach and citrus. Barbarian so does tartness well and they certainly do in this case and it is really a lot of fun to experience the different flavors with this gose. Very impressive complexity. I am also all about brewery swag and Barbarian has a lot of great t shirts which I spent a fair amount of money on that alone so those of you who like viking or barbarian themed brewery swag to go representing in then this is the place to get it in Boise! read more

Finally, a brewery that specializes in sours! With 24 beers on tap, and 10 of them being sours I was in paradise. Flights consisted of 6 pours, even though they had enough sours to fill the board I went with 3 sours, 2 hazys and a porter. To my luck they had accidentally poured the wrong sour so I ended up getting 4 of them on top of the other beers. Seating outside was limited but indoor seating was plentiful and spread out. Most tables were a few seats at barrels, but they had a nice long table that is good for groups or could be used as a communal table, which was the case for us. Loved that the menu board didn't just have the beer names but actually told you about them, made the selection process much easier, though it was still tough since they all sounded pretty damn good! Though these weren't the best beers I've had, some were really good and all were pretty unique. Had a great time and would definitely come back here for a flight next time I find myself in downtown Boise. read more

Come here for the sours, avoid the lagers. They had a beer here that they said was "the most sour beer they had on tap" and, it was one of the most sour beers I have ever had! (name escapes me) I loved the homebrewed-and-hand-written tap board and that they had some 20+ beers on tap. The lager I sampled though, tasted pretty buttery and sloppy. Wasn't a fan. Stick to the sours and you won't go wrong! read more

My husband and I went here a few weekends ago to get a few beers/ciders. We're on a mission to try every brewery in the treasure valley, this one we probably won't be going back to. We got a flight and I can't even remember what any of the beers were because they weren't that good. While we were they had some blues band playing that was pretty good, but not my cup of tea. I also prefer a brewery that serves food and this place doesn't. They have a QR code at the tables that you can scan and a nearby taco restaurant delivers. I'd prefer to be able to get my food at the same place, but that is just a personal preference. I could see why people would like this place, unfortunately it's just not for me. read more

Although not your typical craft brewery, this is a must try for any small batch beer aficionado, especially sour fans. Amazing how spot on each brew tastes based on its name and description. Their more traditional Persephone Porter is probably my fav dark beer on a week-long midwest crawl. Awesome beer in Boise! We visited the Barbarian Brewing Downtown Taproom and had a great time. Though Barbarian is based in nearby Garden City, Idaho, it's smart for the company to have this downtown Boise location for visitors to check out. I only wish I could easily get this in my neck of the woods. It was crazy busy on a Friday night. But my bestie and I were able to snag two bar stools at a communal table. You order at the bar and get your beer right there and then. There was A LOT to choose from when we visited. You can do a flight and sample any of the beers. I first ordered a quadruple IPA and then a s'mores porter, which were both fantastic. My bestie who loves sours had a beer that had pop rocks with! The beers are inventive, and are executed well. I'll be honest, I was a little skeptical when I heard about the s'mores porter since I don't like sweet beers, but figured it was worth a try since I love s'mores. And it exceeded my expectations. Barbarian is a must for anyone who loves craft beer! You will not be disappointed with the wide selection of quality, creative beers here. Just make sure to bring your own food or get delivery from one of the many nearby restaurants around. Glad we visited Barbarian. read more

This place was rad. We're in town from Denver visiting family, and stopped in here on a super hot afternoon. I don't know a whole lot about beer, other than that I mostly like lagers, and this place specializes in sours (which I don't like). The beer tender helping us (I wish I could remember her name) was the absolute coolest. She challenged me to try a few sours in my tasting flight, and her vibe was just so fun I trusted her. I loved all the lighter style beers, still hated the sours (always have, probably always will), but I loved that she took her time and tried to find me something out of my box that I'd like. It was a really fun experience for me, honestly, and got me to try something new I wouldn't have otherwise. Overall just a super great experience, and I'd come back here next time I'm in town in a heartbeat. Keep being awesome! read more

They have some amazing, fun, experimental beers which is what I like to see from a craft brewery. It's one thing to make an IPA with a bunch of hops and another thing to add lactose or vanilla and all kinds of strange fruits. The beers were great and unique, and the tap list was quite extensive. Also very neat rustic wooden decorations, and succulents on many of the tables which made for a great vibe. Friendly service. We tried the strawberry rhubarb tart Berliner Weise, the mango lassi milkshake IPA, the I am Gruit! Vol 4 w/ butterfly pea flower, and the Danger sunset 2020 Sour. read more

Ya, I do love this place! Huge selection of various beers. The floor plan is open so it makes for a great space to meet with one friend, no friends (large amount of bar seating) or 10 friends! It can get loud because it is such an open space but it just makes you feel cooler for some reason. I can't explain it. Probably because you are, you picked a hip place to land. Sit at the high tops or sit in the back room with lower couch seating. Find a game to challenge your friend and make sure the loser buys next round (or roundssss!) Genius! Maybe I set my expectations too high when I looked online and saw beers like Oreo Cookie Ice Cream ale and Maple Bar Stout before Ubering my way across town. I know people have many different ideas of what good beer is, which is great. I can usually sample some beers and find something I like, especially when they have such a selection as Barbarian has. It could be the horrible service I received. It was busy, but you can usually get some advice from a knowledgeable bartender when you tell them what you like. My friends and I go here almost every Tuesday night to watch the local blue grass band Tater Patch. We love it here! The staff have become our pals and so has the band. Tons of eclectic flavors and spins on your classic IPAs, Sours, etc. Tried almost all the sours and they were all very, very impressive. Loved the Blackbird--super tart with just enough sweetness to settle it down. Very nice staff willing to answer any questions and offer recommendations about their selection.
