Located right in the heartbeat of Positano- a stone's throw from Chez Black. But the food at the hotel is so incredible, it's hard to eat elsewhere. Outstanding pasta, pizza, minestrone soup- and the most delicious gelato shop in town. Not as fancy as the other legendary nearby hotels (San Pietro & Sireneuse), but more casually elegant and perhaps more friendly and welcoming. At any rate, the vibe suits our California-based family perfectly, and we come back year after year to enjoy a week to two of La Dolce Vita. For an added treat, book a day or three with Matteo on "Luxury Boats Positano." You embark a 20 second walk from the lobby! P.S. Rosario (who now works poolside) is our very favorite worker! Unless you have easy…read moreto navigate (and lift) luggage, I suggest you opt for the €10 per bag during the day and €20 per bag in the evening and overnight. They're serious when they tell you that it's a distance from the roadway through the pedestrian pathways. Be sure to set the hotel in your GPS as the signage down drops off at times and you'll wind up having to ask for assistance. If it's during tourist season, you'll have massive amounts of people to navigate past. That said, once you arrive, you are greeting by a relaxing and welcoming setting. The rooms themselves are lovely - a mix of mid century classic Italian/Amalfi along with some modern touches. The rooms are lined with Italian tiles that are soft to the touch. I opted for a balcony with view and I'm really glad I did as I have a gorgeous view along with seaside smells throughout my stay. I often left my balcony doors open overnight for both the ocean sound & smell experience. The one negative is that it occasionally gets loud or smelly from the fuel of the continually loading and unloading of passenger ferrys which are literally steps away from the hotel. Be sure to spend time at the glorious pool as the staff are attentive and the comfort is extreme with absolutely stunning views on top of it all as the lounges face out towards the sea and mountains. The restaurants - both Savino and the breakfast area are staffed with helpful and friendly folks - especially the hosts themselves who want to ensure you have a great experience. My dinner was one of the best meals in Amafli and breakfast was plentiful and fresh each morning - again both featuring stunning views. The property was clean and well maintained and the front desk and concierge team were absolutely outstanding and willing to ensure you have a great experience in Italy. It was the best decision to stay in Positano as it totally cleared of tourists by ~5P which made for a truly magical setting throughout the seaside and adjacent hills.

Unfortunately, everything that followed was disappointing. The classic Margherita pizza with buffalo mozzarella was the worst pizza I had during my trip to Italy. The crust lacked texture, the cheese was uninspiring, and the overall flavor fell flat. My friend ordered the Caesar salad with chicken, and it was equally disappointing. The chicken came in tiny, dry cubes that tasted almost air-dried, and the dressing lacked flavor and balance. The service was the slowest we experienced during our stay in Italy. The staff seemed disengaged, as though they didn't enjoy working there. We had to wait an unusually long time just to receive the bill after asking for it, and our sparkling water wasn't served until we had nearly finished our meal. While the location is beautiful, the food and service fell well below expectations.

Nothing special about the pizza in particular. Found it to be a bit doughy. Yes, I like the Neapolitan pizzas. We took the Cheese and tomatoes back to the hotel. It's is apparent that many other tourists dine here as well. Two tables were filled with American tourist ordering Hamburgers with fries. Not here to rave about the food at Bar Ercolano nor the service. You need to flag down wait staff for service as well as to get the check. It's about the ambiance here. It's all about people watching while enjoying that glass of wine with American music blasting in the background. One night we passed by Bar Ercolano and there was live musicians outside and people dancing in the street.

The bar is the only portion that's part of the cave and truly, many places along Praiano and neighboring areas r built into the cliff so it's not all that special. Unless you're arriving via water taxi, the walk to this place is a lot so wear shoes that u love to hike in-lol. We paid an additional 15Euro/pp to have VIP seating right along the water. Not worth it. U could easily sit on the patio and have equal views and experience. One of the nice things about Europe is often that they don't rush u as much as US restaurants. Not here. They were ready to grab r order immediately and when we asked to start with a drink and appetizer then order in a bit, they told us they had to put in r complete order at 1 time. Seems odd since they were able to add drinks as needed, but whatevs. The linguini with anchovy (it was more of an essence) was amazing! Would totally recommend it and we don't even like anchovies. However, everything else was meh to bad. The lamb ribs were a pile of fat and not good. The filet was really overcooked so rough to eat. The tagliatelle with ragu had almost no meat in it. Probably spent $100usd pp without alcohol and would definitely not recommend for dinner. *Tip - if you're walking back up that huge hill after drinks/dinner, stop off at the hotel just above Il Pirate and have a cocktail or dessert there. The cafe is very small, with a counter inside the left entrance for gelato and sorbetto, a larger counter and display case of pastries along the wall inside the right entrance. Seems to be a handful of seats upstairs accessible by a narrow staircase though they looked to be cordoned off that moment. Gelato prices ranged from €3 for a small, single flavor to €5 for medium, €8 for large, €12 for maxi which I'm not quite sure how many scoops that was. The prices were the most reasonable that I saw along the Amalfi Coast in a few towns. After checking out the flavor selection I decided to go with a light sorbetto in melon and it was yummy! It tasted like if really ripe cantaloupe were made into a super smooth smoothie lol. They carried the popular sorbetto al limone (lemon sorbet in a lemon) for €10 too, though in general I heard mixed reviews about this item being overpriced. They offer a bunch of lunch-suitable menu items like simple paninis, pasta, salads and burgers; also some cocktails for €12-13-including an enticing Positano Spritz concocted of prosecco, limoncello, soda, fresh lemon zest. Pastries looked good too though the weather was a little warm for more sweets--their tiramisu cups, cookies, mini tarts and eclairs all looked like solid choices if you're in the mood.

It was pricey at €10, but the sorbet was refreshing and nice on a hot day. They also have a good selection of regular gelato, pastries and drinks too if you want something more reasonable. It's conveniently located in the heart of Positano where you can wander down to the beach or stroll through the shops.
