We stumbled off a three-hour train ride hungry and looking for lunch. Also, it was pouring. We popped in to Bar Rio as it was right next to the Tourist Office.
The menu is huge, with lots of sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, pastas and even curry. I asked about gluten free options and the waitress seemed really irritated with me and kept sighing and going to check with the kitchen. Really not sure why she was being so unpleasant since I asked about a specific dish and had a back up plan if that one was a problem (and it was.) I got a bunless chesseburger and chips. My partner ordered a mushroom pizza.
The food was average, not bad but nothing to write home about. The burger was cheese coated and really greasy, chips were okay. My partner said his pizza wasn't very good. Really, this rating is based on the sour waitress who couldn't be bothered. Everyone else in there seemed perfectly pleasant, so I think we were just unlucky.
If you find yourself starving and on this pier, there's an Italian restaurant just at the end that was fab, and while I didn't try it this trip, there's also a seafood restaurant on the pier that is supposed to be outstanding. Either would be better options than this one. read more
