The kickin chicken. Look at all that melty cheese-the savory bacon and those cute little jalapeños. This is just layers of love, August 2025
Jennifer B.

I usually wait a few days to write a review-let it marinate a bit-wait til my thoughts and impressions are a toasty golden brown. Nope, not this time. I have to do this one right away. I've gotta write this while I'm still so full and happy. For Seinfeld fans-this meal was like the risotto. For the rest, I'll explain. I couldn't decide where to go today-or what to have. Friday is always my "eat lunch out" day and usually, I have several nominees by Tuesday. Nope, not this week. And as I sat in my car, I opened Yelp (of course) and looked up "martinis in Tampa"... the one thing I knew I wanted. Up came Bar Louie. I'm so glad I jumped right in it. So, it's in international Plaza, near Tampa International Airport... in the "Bay Street" line of eateries, right next to the Cheesecake Factory. I ambled in around 12:20 on this Friday afternoon and was told to seat myself. I picked a half-circle booth, because I can't resist them-and settled in. The bar seating was about halfway full but the rest of the place was nearly empty. That was fine by me-I could soak it up better. My kind server Aamir arrived shortly. I had the spicy watermelon martini all picked out, but needed more time to decide on food. He didn't mind. I appreciated his patience-and the careful way he shepherded both martinis to the table. (Oh yeah, I had the purple rain, next. Both were sublime). I felt like he cared that I was happy. That's a lovely thing. And when I decided on the kickin' chicken... he was supportive. I like that, too. All of this is joyous preamble to what came next: the delivery of the best hot sandwich I've had since the 90s. Yeah, really. It was served up on a brioche bun with cheese, lettuce, jalapeños and bacon-with, for me, the perfect amount of heat. I was enchanted. It was magical. I couldn't have been happier with this meal. In a world that so often disappoints, this experience... was life affirming. The drinks, the service, the food... all of them way, way exceeded my hopes. I'm hoping this is the beginning of my delighted era. Forgive me, I'm getting philosophical. That's not what you're looking for. The restaurant was comfy (not too chilly of stuffy, temp wise) and clean. The prices are on par with other places nearby. To my notion, the food quality is excellent. I know they have a happy hour... but I didn't get the details. I believe they have brunch with bottomless mimosas (for $20) even on weekdays. The food menu is fairly large-and I loved all the cocktail options. There are booths, tables, high tops and bar seats available... and tv's scattered around. There's a large parking lot, since this is a mall, but this area gets busy on weekends. I know there's a valet, but I'm not sure of the cost. Oh... and the lunchtime playlist was poppin.' Yeah, this was the whole package for me. See you there!

New Bruschetta

Bar Louie never lets me down. Its next to the Cheesecake Factory, closer to the mall entrance, and has a pretty spacious inside and outside area. It's also one of the few places that stay open later during the week, and their kitchen stays open late too. The bottomless mimosas are only a weekend thing but they have really great deals throughout the week, different things depending on the day. As far as the food, you gotta try their new bruschetta! It's perfect! And the salmon sliders? I go back JUST for those.

The wings: 10/10. Buffalo with lemon pepper on the side is sure thing. Beer was cold and taps are basic but extensive.

Great bar experience with large group. We brought a large group, and the staff were very accommodating. The staff was friendly, and quick to get us to go boxes. There's a great three entree deal under 15 dollars. I really enjoyed the fish sandwich. The place was clean too.

Happy Hour Menu

My friends and I had a blast visiting this Bar Louie vacation at the mall next to the airport. The food was delicious and on point in terms of temperature, flavor, and presentation. My favorite was the Trio Dips because the cheese was served hot and melted, the guacamole was bright green, and the salsa tasted fresh as heck. The chips were lightly salted and a healthy portion for the dips. The cocktails on happy hour were $8 and an absolute treat. The Clover is bourbon-based with an orange flavor. The Effen Good is gin based and a delicious combination with lime and cucumber. Our server was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was clean and easy to find. The lighting was adequate and booths comfortable. The menus were crisp and organized. I love the concept of Bar Louie!

Fried cheese Curds / Chicken Tenders Entrée / lemon Drop martini

Had a wonderful experience from being greeted by the manager Margo with a very friendly and welcoming demeanor ! Has a very comfortable & welcoming ambiance. If you don't know what you want to eat ask Matt at the bar as he recommended the PERFECT appetizers and made a wonderful Lemon drop. Will definitely be back!!!

The s'mores martini and champagne were amazing! Matt, Mason, and Raven were also amazing! Such a great experience with friends!!

Beef Sliders Side Mac and Cheese

Been by here a few times and finally decided to do in for dinner. I was alone so I sat at the bar. Greeted by a friendly bartender and he was engaged the whole hour I was there not intrusive just engaged. Chatting with customers and making sure we were all taken care of. I got the beef sliders and opted for Mac and cheese on his recommendation. The Mac and cheese was very good and the 3 sliders were the right amount of food. They tasted good. When I went in it was about 6pm on a Monday so it wasn't super busy but definitely filled up. Nice and clean with outdoor seating. Plenty of tables and a nice bar with great selections. I would definitely recommend this place and will return.

Do they offer bottomless mimosa during the week?

Not during the week, no

What's the Sunday vibe?

We have been on sundays a few times. We like it, it's chill but a fun atmosphere. The mimosas are a deal if you have more than 2 & the sangria pictures are very good too.

Do you serve brunch with endless mimosas during the week also?

So far, we've only sat at the bar, and for good reason: Austin and Punja are amazing bartenders and servers. Foodies, especially Europeans, will appreciate the real delicacies on the menu. The chef is incredible! The wagyu bone, the bread, the fish, the meat so tender, shoe string fries, mushroom soup is a MUST, everything is delicious. No "fugazi" or overcomplicated deceiving reinterpretations of the classics, just the right twist. And the atmosphere is a 10! It's such a pleasure to find a restaurant where you can actually have a conversation, with a real bar, real tables, nice art de la table and sit comfortably, instead of being stuck on a poorly made bench that kills your back, in a place with cacophony. I appreciate that people dress nicely. That makes it special. THIS place deserves a michelin recommendation for sure !!!

Ponte Modern American | Gramercy Lounge Is the Moment!…read more Some places you visit for the food, others for the ambiance. At Ponte Modern American, the atmosphere alone is worth getting dressed for! I recently enjoyed a girls' happy hour with my neighbors, which also marked my first visit to Gramercy Lounge, Ponte's absolutely STUNNING bar. And when I say stunning, I mean every bit of it! Sophisticated, sexy, beautifully designed, and effortlessly upscale without feeling pretentious. This is the kind of space that makes you want to linger over cocktails and good conversation. Let's get into the food, because I have thoughts! We sampled a variety of dishes, and while there were some definite standouts, not everything was a hit. The birria empanadas were unfortunately my least favorite. They lacked seasoning, and the filling was noticeably dry. I expected a much richer, more flavorful bite, especially from a restaurant of this caliber. These were a miss for me. The Modern Caesar Salad, however? Absolutely delicious! The house-made dressing was so good I would've happily ordered a cup of it on the side. No exaggeration! It was easily one of my favorite bites of the evening. I also sampled a few selections from my girlfriends' plates, including the much-talked-about mushroom soup. I'm happy to report that the reputation is well deserved. Rich, delicious, and absolutely worth ordering! One of my friends ordered a steak, and although I can't recall the specific cut, I can confirm that it was flavorful, delicious, and prepared to her preferred temperature. Another win! The cocktails were enjoyable, and the service was equally pleasant. What I especially appreciated was the collaborative approach behind the bar. Rather than relying on one assigned bartender, several members of the team checked on us and assisted throughout our visit. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Our food arrived relatively quickly, and we were offered complimentary bread while waiting. The bread was tasty, although I'm personally not one to fill up before the main event! Now, about the overall experience... Ponte has earned Michelin recognition, so naturally, I arrived with elevated expectations. While I enjoyed the evening and found several things to appreciate, I wouldn't say this particular happy hour experience completely knocked my socks off from a culinary standpoint. The food was a mix of hits and misses, with the Caesar salad and mushroom soup being the clear standouts. That said, Gramercy Lounge is an absolute showstopper. The ambiance is top-tier, the service is polished without being stuffy, and the space is perfect for a sophisticated girls' night, date night, or after-work cocktails. And here's an important update: I've actually returned to Ponte since this visit, and the BRUNCH? To die for! That experience gave me an even greater appreciation for what this restaurant has to offer. My recommendation: Go for the gorgeous atmosphere, stay for the cocktails, don't skip the mushroom soup or Modern Caesar, and definitely put brunch on your radar. Final verdict: Gramercy Lounge delivers luxury ambiance and warm hospitality, with a few menu items that truly shine. Not every dish was a home run during this visit, but there's more than enough here to bring me back. 4/5 -- A beautiful Tampa dining destination with standout ambiance and brunch worth returning for!

I stopped in on a Saturday, after working overnight and running some errands. I wanted a quick bite-a well crafted martini and some zen or charm or swagger or something, to pick me up after a long week with unexpected challenges. J Alexander's delivered on every level. Outside, it has the "out west," Frank Lloyd Wright bungalow feel. Inside, there's this cozy, wood and leather feel, with booths and tables on various levels-a large, lively bar area and an open kitchen, spotted right there in the lobby. It's cozy but vibrant, soothing but with a pulse to it, grown up and slightly elevated/upscale but approachable. That's a terrific recipe. It's a great place for date night, girls lunches, family dinners, drinks with friends or lunchtime breathers from the grind. This was a very good choice. With Rat Pack or swingin' jazz piano playing in the background and a huge martini/cocktails/mocktails and wine menu-this spot is such a vibe. I ordered the spinach con queso (with the light, warm, ribbon shaped chips) and a pear martini. Oh! Instant peace! That martini was so well crafted-ice cold and with layers of fine flavors. It comes with a mini carafe of overflow martini, kept cool in a snifter full of ice. The queso dip was creamy, rich and comforting-and my server brought a refill of chips! I so wanted to order the rattlesnake pasta or the Hyde Park chicken sandwich-but I was too full. What an awesome visit-sipping martinis, looking out the window toward Midtown. It was a great reset in a comfortable booth, with attentive service in a gorgeous setting. I'll be back with the friends and a bigger appetite-there's so much I want to try! I love that it has the same feel/ambiance since its early days! I remember when the building next door was Borders books. We'd come after work on Fridays. Time to get back into that good habit! Oh! The decor is sophisticated without feeling pretentious, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The service was polished, attentive, and well-paced, allowing us to enjoy the evening without feeling rushed. It's lively- too loud for a first date. The highlight of the meal was the tableside chicken Parmesan, which we tried with both vodka sauce and traditional marinara. Both preparations were excellent, and the tableside presentation was a nice touch. It's refreshing to see a restaurant put this much effort into both the food and the dining experience. The only minor criticism was the lasagna, which was slightly oversalted. A little more restraint with the seasoning would have made it a much better dish. As someone who appreciates good Italian cooking, I particularly enjoyed the attention to presentation and the opportunity to experience two different preparations of a classic dish. Olivia's gets a lot of things right. Beautiful surroundings, professional service, and well-executed food made for a memorable evening. Definitely a restaurant I would return to. Lots of gf options

My first experience was probably a year and a half ago, it wasn't terribly busy, just a happy hour timeframe, had a cocktail or 2 and some apps, shared. I wasn't terribly impressed, it seemed fine, although pretty pricey. But did enjoy the ambiance, it was slightly elevated. I thought I'd come back and give it another shot. My next visit for lunch was nice, the food was good and service was adequate. Nothing special. My last visit, which was just a couple weeks ago. We were seated at a strange table with the end of the table sharing some odd booth-like chairs that didn't seem to be a part of the same group. But we were. The music was ridiculously loud and we were unable to hear one another. Just speaking to the person directly next to me and across from me was all I could speak to and we all had to yell over the music. It seemed to get louder at some point, even, which was ridiculous. I ordered a mocktail. It was pretty good. I ordered a steak - requested "medium ++, not medium well, but above medium". I received a medium RARE steak, at best. They had to put it back on the grill to make it basically medium well. At $62 for an a la carte steak - and this is not a steakhouse - this is unacceptable. At least they remade the separate side I ordered so it would be hot with the re-cooked steak. The service was fine, it wasn't exceptional, the ambiance was still the same - yet this last time was an attempt to appear trendy with the 30-somethings. Well overpriced, the food isn't spectacular even to justify the price, although the presentation was lovely. Too loud (yeah, call me old)... But when you want to talk with your friends, this is not the place. I learned after the fact that the upstairs which has another bar and also a decent amount of dining space, has a DJ spinning beats which is fed through the sound system downstairs, the music downstairs was louder than upstairs. That's just weird. Apparently just not my scene.

I've been here a few times, usually sitting at the outside bar when it's available; like a lot of Bay Street restaurants, there's a lot of patio and "semi-outdoor" seating when the weather isn't overly stormy or, as with this last summer, constantly set on broil. The atmosphere is nice, and the service has always been friendly and generally fast. The bone-in pork chop is, to me, the real star of the menu; I've also had the rotisserie chicken and the grilled chopped chicken salad, both of which were quite solid. The tavern burger is a great "fancy burger" if you're looking for one. The cocktail menu is, naturally, tilted toward bourbon, but it's a full bar, and the drinks I've had have been good. My wife and I came for our anniversary dinner after seeing the menu online. The food seemed so…read moreinventive and exciting. We were seated at a super small table so it made for an uncomfortable situation with so little real estate available. Also the place looks like it's converted from a garage or something with metal walls and roll up doors that made the sound bounce around. The service was nice. We were well taken care of but they seemed to be spread thin because getting refills and getting our check took a bit longer than expected. One ssue was that the menu was very different from what was online via Google. I should have gone to their website I guess, but several items were not available and the filet I was so excited for had a very different set of items. No Brie au gratin potatoes or braised rainbow chard, citrus gremolata and a fig chutney. Now, let me say that my filet was delicious. I loved the sauce and the asparagus was good but for me, the potatoes were super underwhelming. A nice sauce or something would have made them better. They just tasted bland, were really dry and lacked any flavor. My wife expected the lamb or pork chops, they were both not on the menu. She got fish and chips which she really enjoyed, so it was a win. The Asian wings were our appetizer and were delightful too. Now the only real negative for us was the noise. We got there at 5:30 and it was fine. But as more people came in, the sound bounced around so bad that it became almost unbearable for me. I wanted to go so bad because people laughing and talking made my head hurt. Would I go back? Probably not. I didn't enjoy how loud it was. The food was very good though, so perhaps takeout would be more my speed. We had a nice meal and my leftovers were delicious later that evening.
