(i think they're family owned? based on the tik tok i saw where a girl was talking about how her family runs the restaurant). also their decor is bad. dark walls and dim lighting with christmas lights.

I struggled with giving Bar Louie a four stars rating due to the server Mike attentive customer service care. But 3 stars is all my heart can give mainly because they do not serve onion rings and the food was just ok. What place in LA do not serve onion rings??? Crazy.. First of all, I visited Bar Louie off of the recommendation of my old high school buddy (Go Eagles!) who upgraded from Cudahy aka Cudahy Hills to the Downey area. She stated the burgers were the bomb and she love the atmosphere. Well, as if I would listen to her food recommendations? She doesn't cook. So instead, I chose good old buffalo wings and had a glass of wine. Yes, I know FANCY! But they do not fill the glass half way like most establishments yet still charged $8.25 during Happy Hour. I thought the glass of wine should have been charged less. Especially if you are stingy on the pouring of the spirits. The atmosphere was nice. Its new so anything new looks good. I considered sitting outside but it was too cold and the couch area really didn't have a proper place to eat. The few eating tables they had out there were all wood seating without any cushion so I didn't want my butt to hurt since we were catching up and I knew we will be there for at least a couple of hours. So we went inside. My friend had the Voodoo Chicken and loved it. I ordered the calamari since there wasn't any onion rings but I had to send them back because they were flavorless and greasy. The buffalo wings were just ok. They need butter cooks. Or cooks that cook in that genre at home as well so they know how and when to put the extra flavoring when needed. Side bar-The ladies restroom lay out was funky especially the handicapped stall. The toilet was extremely low and the bar was high. Grabbing tissue/TP, one practically had to touch the floor. I can't be catching fungus under my nails trying to grab toilet paper. I recall thinking maybe this stall was built for little people in wheelchairs. I don't know. If you need a place to catch up then this is the place to go.. I advise byob on the low because you will not be satisfied and still thirsty. read more

When I entered the restaurant, I saw menus placed near the entrance and assumed it was a host stand. I waited there for someone to greet me, but no one came. After waiting for a while, I sat at the bar and asked if takeout was available. The staff confirmed it was, so I stayed at the bar. At the bar, all of the staff were gathered in the back section, and for about five minutes no one came to the front area where I was seated. From my perspective, we had already looked at the menu while waiting at the entrance and were ready to order, but there was no opportunity to do so because no one approached the bar or checked on new guests. Once we finally ordered, we were told it would take around 10-15 minutes. About ten minutes later, a server passed by and said the order was almost ready, so we continued to wait. Another ten minutes went by without an update, so I asked another server to check on it. She went into the kitchen and did not return. I then approached someone who seemed to be the manager; she also went into the kitchen to check. At that point, I almost wondered if the kitchen was a one-way door--two people went in and nobody came back out to update us. The food was eventually ready approximately 28 minutes after placing the order. The timing itself was not the main issue. The concern was the lack of communication and follow-through. Two different staff members offered to check on the order and then did not return with any information. A brief update--such as letting us know there was an unexpected delay or thanking us for waiting--would have clarified the situation and set proper expectations. This was my first visit, and unfortunately, it did not reflect the strong reputation I had expected. The food may very well be worth waiting for, but the experience would benefit from a clearer system of communication and consistent attention to guests seated at the bar or near the entrance. I hope management reviews internal coordination and guest updates to ensure future experiences better align with the restaurant's image. read more

Of all the establishments I have been to in Downey, Ricky is the best server I have ever had. When we were greeted, Ricky exuded a warm and welcoming demeanor. He was attentive, friendly, and displayed a genuine enthusiasm for ensuring our meal and evening were nothing short of fantastic. Ricky's impeccable service began with his knowledge of the menu. He not only answered all our questions but also offered some excellent recommendations, the standout being the new Monterrey chicken. Ricky's suggestion couldn't have been more spot on! DON'T walk, RUN away from this place!! Set up here is amazing, dont let that fool you!! outdoor seating was perfect for our party.. unfortunately we had the worst service ever..... unbelievable! Our waitress "Monica" was so rude and disrespectful it literally ruined our friends Birthday celebration... we arrived at 7pm order wings and quesadillas for our table as appetizers.... we kept reminding Monica about our appetizers and she just kept blowing us off.. the last time we ask was at 10pm and Monica literally told us to stop asking for wings, and that if we dont like the service too leave, are you kidding me!!! She was insulting us and closed our $400 tap and said she was switching shifts and we were not going to get served... wow.... I been to so many restaurants and I can not remember one time a server closed a tap while switching shifts... unbelievable... at 11pm i had enough of her insulting our guest and we had not received any service or drinks for an hour.. I asked to speak to Manager "Mike" and her attitude changed.... asked for what??? I responded, regarding your rudeness and being disrespectful to our guests... Finally I had to walk all the way to his office because apparently Monica mention he was too busy... Mike asked what was the issue I mentioned exactly what was going on infront of Monica, and she was still giving me attitude infront of Mike. Unbelievable. This review was for a Thursday night. I don't even know where to start with this place. This place doesn't even deserve one star. I have absolutely nothing good to say except for our server Gabriella who was sweet and sincerely apologetic about our bad time here. My family came in and ordered drinks, which came out fairly quick. My mai tai was ok, my husbands Long Island iced tea was not the best. My daughter liked her strawberry lemonade. All the while, we were swatting away fruit flies. I regret ordering food here. Not only was the food bland, but came out about an hour late. It was not busy nor did we have a complicated order, so there was no reason for our food to take as long as it did to come out. On top of that, a table nearby who ordered way after us got their food first! Our server explained to us that there was a kitchen error. I asked her if I could speak to a manager. I saw her approach a man at the bar who I assumed to be the manager. He never came. Another manager arrived later, David. His explanation for this disaster was mediocre and his "apology" was insincere. Judging by his attitude I gathered that were just another unhappy table he didn't want to deal with. So I came here for the first time last night with my friend she put our name down and we were told it would be about a 60 minute wait. We ended up waiting for 100 minutes which we did not complain. Once we got our message saying our table was ready we still weren't seated or greeted by anyone. We went inside to let them know we got the text that our table was ready, the lady said 2 minutes ,ok fine so we end up waiting and additional 10 minutes when waitress came up small Hispanic or white girl with red hair extremely rude and impatient because my friend asked if we can be next to a heater she responded saying that's gonna be a wait, so I asked around how long and she shrugged her shoulders and said she didn't know, so I said we have already been waiting way over the time we were told so. I just wanted to get an estimated time because we were looking at an empty table next to a heater her response was so rude when she said well you guys asked to be next to a heater so I have to clean off the table which she should have said in the first place. There was no reason for the unnecessary attitude for asking a question. That alone ruined my experience with this place. One good thing I can say is food and music were pretty good but I ordered and strawberry lemonade sangria and the first one was pink and the next one I ordered was clear so there was a inconsistency. Alrighty. So I love Downey. Being a general manager in Downey of a barbecue pit for years so I know service. Tonight was my partners birthday and I wanted the perfect atmosphere , of course I pick bar Louie. Why? Because I like a nice atmosphere and a good burger paired with good service. So we arrive to bar Louie. Promptly the host asks us where we would like to sit. I enjoy the patio, so we sit , 10-15 minutes goes by , no service . Eventually I ask a patio server if I can move spots, hoping I'll be seen , my partner is starving and I can see the hunger. The server allows us to move , only to find out from the host that the area we are in is reserved. Desperate at this point we scurry in hoping we'll be served soon. This is where the whole mood changed. Idk if I was blessed or what but our server Briyanna came through .Not only did she get right on our order , she made plenty of recommendations and by the time we were done with our meal it was like we forgot about being on the patio. **first time experience** I don't like writing reviews... BUT this has to be heard! My coworker recommended this spot as it was a couple blocks away from our job. I'm not really into trying new things so I was kinda skeptical at first, but let me tell you... I'm extremely thankful I came here! I was served by a young woman named "Janell" and made both my girlfriend and I very comfortable and knowledgeable about the menu. I'm VERY indecisive when picking food so I just told her I was hungry af and any beer shall do lol I ended up getting a burger with an egg 10/10 (chef's kiss) idk the name of it I highkey forgot but when I come back I know that would be my safe pick from this spot. Upon entering the bar, I was not greeted by anyone and had to awkwardly stand around until someone finally came over to take my order. When they did, they seemed disinterested and did not bother to offer any recommendations or guidance. The drinks I ordered were subpar at best, and it took far too long for them to arrive. I even had to remind the bartender about my order after waiting for what felt like an eternity. As the night went on, the lack of customer service only became more apparent. The bartenders were more interested in chatting with each other than actually serving customers, and it was nearly impossible to get their attention. To make matters worse, the overall atmosphere of the bar was dingy and uninviting. It was clear that they did not prioritize cleanliness or creating a welcoming environment for their patrons. Overall, I would not recommend this bar to anyone. The lack of customer service and poor quality of drinks made for a terrible experience. showed up for food and the stupid bar flies come onto me in a way they didn't seem to intelligent. I find women of the southern part of california to be down right ugly and downright stupid. its the truth! my father informed me stay away from the women in southern california. date only women of northern california and when I asked why, he said ask your mother she will give you the details as to why. i asked my mother and she said ask your dad. the women who are barflies in southern california are not wonderful hanging out in the bar looking to get picked up for a price. the food at bar louie wasn't very hot when served. i sent it back with my regrets. they rushed it for me and it was returned to me with piping hot apologies that meant a lot to me. the food was sooooooooo much better when piping hot! i enjoyed my meal but i found the barflies real boring pathetic excuses that were drugged out way too early to be useful in entertaining dialogue. i was bored with the selection of women. i wanted conversation with intelligent women who are extremely intelligent. i did not want boring women to spend my time with that are dumpy and slow witted and dull. read more

I must say, what I witnessed last night was absolutely appalling...my husband and I, along with our children went for what we thought was going to be a nice family dinner after our movie at Cinemark, and it was anything but that. I watched one of the workers get jumped on the patio by 2 other workers, security, and the police!! While "the manager" (short Asian women) was yelling, flailing her arms, and instigating the entire brawl. If I didn't know any better I would say that those men were fighting because of her!! She did absolutely nothing to help and only intensified the situation. That man was surrounded, out numbered, and allowed to be hit by other employees and customers, ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? This is how you allow your employees to be treated as you stand back and watch? What a horrible company to work for. The entire incident scared the crap out of my kids, the restaurant seemed to be what looked like turmoil, and at that point I just had to call it quits. I have never in my 56 years witnessed such events take place at a restaurant. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. read more

From the moment we sat down, she greeted us with a warm and genuine smile that instantly made us feel welcome. Her attentiveness throughout the meal was impeccable; she anticipated our needs before we even had to ask and ensured our drinks were always topped off. Irene's knowledge of the menu was impressive, and her recommendations were spot on. She guided us through the options with enthusiasm and helped us choose dishes that we absolutely loved. Her friendly and professional demeanor made the entire dining experience delightful. What stood out the most was Irene's ability to make us feel like valued guests. Wow I have to start with very disappointing, my husband brought me here for my birthday, he insisted was told by co-workers was the best new bar & lounge In downey, besides the incredible wait for our food we got the wrong drink, our server (Rebecca) was rude, couldnt concentrate when we wer ordering, staring at the ground wondering around , eyes were twitching as If she was forcing to keep her eyes closed, eyeballs were orange, reddish glossy, not to mention forgot about us , a wolf pack of girls high off their ass stormed on this classy lookin young man, all because one server said what was he doing there, couldnt even have the GM or any one above them speak to this man , very very rude. I would of figure there the one's with authority, guy co-workers jumped out of no where, trying to start a fight, I have to admit very unprofessional staff, what if the man was there to eat. I recently visited Bar Louie with my family and had an amazing time! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome from the hostess. Irene, our server, was incredibly helpful and made great suggestions for food and drinks. Speaking of food, the menu had a wide variety of options to choose from and everything we ordered was delicious. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip, which was creamy and flavorful. For our entrees, I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger while my wife opted for the Voodo Pasta. Both dishes exceeded our expectations in terms of taste and presentation. The drinks were also a highlight of our evening. My brother-in-law tried the signature cocktail, the Louie's Backyard Tea, and couldn't stop raving about how refreshing it tasted. Overall, Bar Louie provided us with an unforgettable dining experience and we can't wait to come back. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great time with family or friends. read more

My fiancé and I visited Bar Louie on 07/31/25 for a quick date night, but unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. Despite the fact that it was a relatively slow evening, it took over 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive, which is quite frustrating. To make matters worse, our server brought the wrong gin for my fiancé's cocktail -- he specifically ordered Hendrick's, but was served tanqueray instead. P.S there is an up-charge for Hendricks. (You can savor the difference). Adding to the disappointment, the server never returned to check in on us, leaving us to feel largely neglected throughout the evening. We kept our order simple and quick, and we still made sure to tip 25%, but the overall experience did not live up to expectations. Sadly, based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend coming to Bar Louie. The service was underwhelming, and the attention to detail was lacking. I recommend a drink for you and came back to check if you liked it. I also offered to cancel your sliders so you can order from the discount burgers as I was not the one who gave you menus. You declined the offer and loved your drink. You said it was cute. You were also informed when you first ordered that I needed a card on file to hold a tab open(which is why you are actually upset) I still waited for your food to come out before I then reminded you that I needed a card in file or close you out when once alochol is ordered policy states I need to get a card or close you out. I've been coming to Bar Louie for years, but I'll be honest I only love to come when Jewels is in. She's the absolute best, especially during mimosa time in the morning. From the second you sit down, her friendliness and amazing attitude make you feel right at home. She's incredibly attentive, checks in at just the right moments without hovering, and brings that warm, genuine energy that makes the whole experience feel special. Had a great experience at Bar Louie in Downey! The food was excellent, especially the Bacon Cheddar Burger and the chicken nachos, every dang thing came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The wings were also really good and cooked perfectly. What really made the experience stand out was our waiter, Alex. He was fantastic from start to finish!!! Friendly, attentive, professional, and genuinely made sure we were taken care of. He checked on us without being overbearing, made great recommendations, and kept everything running smoothly even though the restaurant was busy. Came here after a movie to have a drink with my partner. When we sat down at the bar no one acknowledged us for about 15 minutes as bartenders a were walking around. I understand they're busy but a simple hello or hi would have sufficed. Bartender came around and just dropped off menus and left. Then another bartender came about 10 minutes later and asked for our orders, she was very rude and made it clear she was not approachable. We ordered and then she smacked coasters and basically threw a stack of napkins in front of us. She has no serving etiquette and was hostile the entire time. She has shoulder length curly hair and I'm assuming her name is Briana as that was the name on our receipt.
