I went to Bar Centrale twice during my stay in Riomaggiore. Last night (10/21/2024) during my second visit there the owner's brother in law, who I had never met before (Fiorenzo, picture included), asked to join me at my table because I was traveling alone. He was very drunk, but the beginning of the conversation was friendly. He listed off the multiple restaurants his family owned in the village. About 10 minutes into the conversation he started attempting to feed me and hug me, making vulgar comments to me and offering me sex, so I told him he was making me uncomfortable. He became angry and left. I attempted to pay inside and the waiter told me the bill had already been taken care of. At this point Fiorenzo returned and started shouting at me that he never said anything inappropriate to me, he does not want me or need me for sex. A tourist couple who had seen and heard the entire exchange offered to walk me back to my room, which was not in the central part of town. We realized Fiorenzo was following us. He began yelling that I had to come back and pay, he does not appreciate me telling people bad things about him because he is a good man. I began crying out of fear and was in a complete panic. The tourist couple ran Fiorenzo off. I returned to the restaurant offering to pay again. I explained the circumstance to the owner and employees, asking them to please help me. They simply stared at me while I cried, then allowed Fiorenzo to hover over me and whisper into my ear, "you won this time, but there is something deeply sick inside of you that we must fix." I ran from him and finally the owner states he will take care of it, then calls a family member. I was able to make it to my room safely while the tourists made sure he did not follow me again. Within an hour I could see Fiorenzo from my balcony, circling the area he had last followed me to. Clearly the owner and family took care of nothing. I wish I had called police, but now I can at least share this warning with other visitors of the Cinque Terre. Do not engage with this man in the picture, and if you choose to visit Bar Centrale or the adjoining restaurants, be aware of the management you're supporting. Many other reviews have mentioned issues with the owner. I've even found reviews stating the owner ignored women reporting that a waiter groped them. Locals in town were able to identify Fiorenzo for me and provide a picture, and they did not seem surprised by his actions. The experience that occurred at Bar Centrale last night was extremely scary and I believe it would have become dangerous if these tourists had not stepped in to help. The owner simply watched and allowed it all to happen. read more

Women beware! Donne attente! A male server at this restaurant will touch you and every other young attractive woman inappropriately. We watched him all through our dinner in disbelief until it happened to us. He tickled my 18-yr-old daughter's side from behind and then walked past her and turned back around and smiled at her. We watched other women leave before ordering after he touched them. We told the female server and she just laughed. We started to tell the owner, we said "the male server" and he interrupted and said "bad?" (that should be all the verification anyone needs) and we said yes and explained and then the owner just yelled and called the server over. We don't speak Italian so we couldn't understand, but the owner did not do or say anything to us to make it right. read more

An unassuming space in the center of Riomaggiore, this place is easy to overlook considering the fancier options. However, its probably one of the better meals I had in the area, without the pretentiousness or price of other options. Sure, it doesn't have an ocean view, but it's open late and doesn't require a reservation. read more

My wife and I had dinner and breakfast at this restaurant. The service was fast compared to other restaurants in the area. Dinner- I forgot what we had, but it was good! Breakfast - we got a little carried away and got crepes with fruit, eggs and bacon, Cinque Terre omelet, chocolate croissant, two espressos, and two macchiatos. This place was just across the apartment I was staying at in, so I had to try it for my last dinner in Riomaggiore. I've been wanting to try the seafood spaghetti since I got to Cinque Terre and Bar Centrale didn't disappoint. Portion size portion was really good for dinner, plenty of mussels, clams, a couple of shrimp and calamari. It came out steaming, so that tells me the seafood was fresh and cooked as ordered. I added some lemon juice (that's how I like my seafood), some pepper and salt and it was finger-leaking good. I ordered a glass of the house wine and my bill came out to only 17 euros, not bad for a nice dinner read more

A small basic bar with a small selection of bottled beer. Had an easy drinking Forst premium and some free snacks to munch on. I had heard that this bar was the hub of Riomaggiore. This might be the case in the summer when they have a large and pleasant sheltered external area. In colder weather they could only handle a quarter of the customers and the interior is not really the most attractive place to hang out. There is a small TV but there is no toilet seat. And the Wi-fi didn't work as also noted by a previous reviewer. read more

Arrived late for Anna Michielini (across the street), and Ivo assured me he would stay open long enough for us to get something to eat. There were a couple of other patrons in there, who also lingered a bit. The pasta di pesto was a welcome dish after a long day of traveling up from Rome to include a 1.5 hour delay on the autostrada, a side trip to Pisa and a little bit of a struggle to get to the American base, Camp Darby. Spouse had the cannelloni and thought it good as well. I greatly appreciated his hospitality! The next morning, we had a cappuccino and caffe latte plus a pastry. The covered patio on the street was a nice place to relax with a morning caffe. It advertises WiFi, but it seemed to be down for the couple of days we were there. read more

We were looking for a simple restaurant, nothing fancy, in the village of Riomaggiore. Considering the prices in the restaurants closer to the beach, this place was okay. It's on the main street and the terrace is nice. I ordered the spaghetti al pomodoro e basilico, it was ok but too much salt... My dad ordered pasta with pesto and he had the same issue. He also said that it was too small. Service was slow as mentioned above but there was no table for four and they moved tables around to make one for us. They also took the time to answer my dad's question about the different kind of fish. It's clearly not the best italian ever but it was alright. read more

I had high hopes for this place and I was sadly disappointed. We were seated outside during a busy time which we didn't mind. Waited maybe 20 minutes for a seat on the patio. But we were asked to move tables so they could combine our table with another for a 4 top, which was also fine. I have worked food service so I can dig trying to fit in everyone in a timely manner. The problem was that they didn't follow up with us regarding our order. We sat and watched people sat behind us get their food and the people we moved for was served before us. We had to track our wait staff down to say something. We were then served our appetizer mussels ....cold. Even after they knew there was an issue there was no sense of urgency to rectify it. We finally got our food and it was delicious. I had the grilled branzino and my husband had the mixed fritte. This rating is for service not food. If I rated food it would come in as 4 stars but the service was so disconnected that it really took away from the experience. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. WORST SERVICE, AND DISGUSTING FOOD. Do yourself a favor and walk 10 steps down the street to il Maggiore cafe/winebar. The entire staff there is incredibly nice and attentive, we ended up going back multiple times. This was by far the worst experience during my entire 2 week stay in multiple locations all over Italy. The staff was so rude and disrespectful, and the food was terrible. I have never in my life got up and left a place without paying, and I truly hope to never do that again, it was not a good feeling, as someone who has worked in restaurants, bars, and cafes for 6+ years. Full details below: I was originally ordering the nutella crepe and fruit smoothie, the server told me the smoothie machine was broken, so I asked it I could change my order to the fruit crepe instead, this immediately pissed her off, and I immediately apologized for being difficult. After we ordered, we attempted to fix our shakey broken table, but there was no way for us to do this, so we switched tables. When she came back with our drinks, she rolled her eyes and signed because of the switch, even though there were only two other tables being occupied (they were not busy at all). The lattes tasted disgusting, with barely any espresso. The crepe tasted like straight up flour and was cold, with a gross sticky black syrup that sparkled, talk about tacky. Then our server failed to give us any attention once a new table arrived. I had to find her to ask for water, which she failed to bring me. My boyfriend never got his omelette, as the new table received all of their food. At this point my patience ran out completely, so I went up to confront her about the horrible food and service, in return she YELLED at me, saying my boyfriends food was coming and they were having issues with their computer. This was not what I was trying to talk to her about, and I told her exactly that, but she continued yelling and completely ignored me. When I asked to speak with someone in charge, that man also YELLED at me and still said something about the missing food, but ignored the fact that our current food was garbage. By all means, if you are looking for rude waiters, go immediately to Bar Centrale. I was traveling alone and stopped for a salad and glass of wine. Two waiters ignored me for nearly 15 minutes while serving people who came after me. When I finally waived one down, he asked me if I was alone, literally rolled his eyes in disgust when I said yes, and reluctantly took my order. Okay, I know Italians are easy-going and sometimes lack urgency, but this place was ridiculous. We had just arrived and heard this was the "fun, local, quick place to eat" but none of that was true. There was one server for the entire little patio area, and he clearly didn't like tourists, and clearly didn't care about providing great service. The food is expensive, as is most places in Riomaggiore, but there are better places out there. It took us 10 minutes to get a coffee, and it was clear that the other people dining here were getting impatient with the server, who NO JOKE, sat down right in front of the restaurant and stopped to smoke a cigarette. Busy Sat night. Waited for table. Staff was fine. Small flies were huge problem. I couldn't kill them fast enough to keep out of glasses. Pesto bruschetta was basically white toast with tons of pesto. Pesto was extremely garlicky but also arrived with dinner. It would have been great to have that as appetizer vs letting seafood risotto get cold. Risotto was fine (tons of seafood). 16 Euro was fair price. House white wine was disappointing. We've had good luck at most places so noted so you don't exclude at most places. Risotto large enough to split as well as bruschetta. Lots of smokers move to aisle outdoors so try to avoid tables along edge if you don't smoke. read more

Service is super slow! I agree with a precious yelper the Caesar dressing does taste like a sweet mayo but it's actually not too bad if you get a traditional Caesar dressing out of your head. Ordered the fish filet. Mind you since I've been in Italy I've had the fishiest seafood I've ever had in my life. This fish was actually delicious and not too fishy. Food took what felt like foreverrrrr but the fish was totally worth it. A little pricy for the size but what do you expect for a super touristy town. The service is the reason why I'm giving it s 3. The staff was good but we quickly learned that in Italy they should stick to croissant and pastries, as the Eggs Benedict and omelets were not good. The staff was very friendly, and the food was very good. They serve things ranging from crepes to pasta and more, and it all comes out pretty fast. It was yummy and it's open all day and most of the night. Just wished they took credit cards. When we needed an extra plate, the chef noticed and brought one without our asking. To start with, the location and napkins were great. The service was rubbish having to nag the waiters for a spoon with spaghetti and oil/dressing with the undressed salad. We also received the salt and pepper on the table after i finished my pesto lasagna (which was okay). We also never once received a genuine smile from any of the staff and weren't checked in with during the meal. It kind of felt like 'what do you want, here you go now don't talk to me'. We failed to receive any of the basic levels of service you would expect from a restaurant. Aside from the service, the food sucked. The lettuce was like the lettuce you get on a mcdonalds burger and in general it felt like fast food. Finally, when i walked up to pay (yes there really is no service) one of the items on the bill was charged higher than what the menu said and there was this Coperto charge. Now sorry but charging someone for bread you never ordered and for napkins (the bartender said we had to pay for napkins) is a disgrace. If you need things like napkins and oil paid for then you hide that cost in other items and then being made to pay for something that is STANDARD in any restaurant is a joke. If you just want to sit and eat as if you were at a fast food joint then definitely go to this place but if you care about the quality of food and service then don't go here. read more

An inexpensive meal for two. We had the penne with tuna, the spaghetti with mussels, and the scallopini with lemon! The penne was our favorite; a nice touch of pepperoncini oil! The veal was also very tender and came with a side salad. The mussels were okay; but I could've made them at home.
