I have been to this restaurant twice. The first time the sandwich was good. I think they smoke the meat and then put it on the grill. The food was so good! I got the chicken meal. The meat was pretty tender, mac and cheese was amazing and the baked beans were insanely good.

For this to be in the Soft opening stages everything looks amazing and smells good, I had the 1/2 chicken dinner and the chicken was so delicious and juicy the collard greens was slow cooked with love and my husband had the rib sandwich and he finished them before we pulled off so it's safe to say it's a 10 out 10 highly recommend. read more

Wow ! Such a great place to grab some incredible barbecue . Really loved the warm welcome from staff and knowledge about the menu . Made choosing from the many options a breeze ! Couldn't decide between the mild and hot sauce so I'm glad you could mix . My favorite was the chicken and beans but everything I had was fantastic . The BBQ place located in a rough neighborhood. If you want find a good food and don't mind the place, this can be your adventure. King BBQ just off Armenia and I-275. There no place to sit. It is a to go place. You may not experience the full menu. It is what they are cooking at that day. Today they just have the regular rib and the chicken. The price is good for the meat you get. I got half slab regular ribs for $13. It fill the entire box. The middle low part of the rib was grilled to crispy and not burn. It is very tasty. They do have the BBQ sauce selection with mild, mixed or hot. I have them put the sauce on the side. Since this is full size rib not baby back, the half slab look big. Obviously there is a reason this place is the Barbecue King. And it's not the seating..there isn't any. The hours.. Weds. - Saturday. It's the genuine wood smoked Barbecue. To-go. Takeout. They also do smoked chicken and various sides. And there were mino sweet potato pies from "a lady at church". Thisnis the real deal. The BBQ eas flavorful and delicious. I did the mild sauce and it was tangy and flavorful. My 8 month old daughter enjoyed the non-crusted part of the wronder bread and I used what she left me to sop up extra sauce. This historic bbq establishment has always been just short trek from my childhood home. Every time I visit I'm always greeted by the stacks of freshly cut wood, aroma pit smoke and kindness from the cashier and pit-master. Although I usually know what I want beforehand, I never feel rushed. The sweet meat and tangy sauce are definitely a match made in paradise, don't forget to "sop" up the extra with the always included bread! Side-wise, both the macaroni & cheese, as well as the baked beans are in my top 5 and growing up in a Southern background, I've definitely had my fair share of good and bad. My first time having it was 2 weeks ago my friend brought it to me in hospital because I had taste for barbecue. It was very good. I am a southern woman soo for me good bbq is hard to find. I've been in Tampa for about 2 years now all of a sudden my husband and I decided to stop this bbq restaurant that we have passed a few times. First let me say that the customer service is AMAZING !!!! and the food was even better. We got half of a chicken with sausage, baked beans and potato salad. I can't wait until we go back we don't eat out much but we will make an exception for this bbq. There were a few not so positive comments on the location however, we had no issues and weren't expecting any. If you've never been to a restaurant outside of the suburbs/popular areas then you may be a little hesitant but don't let that deter you from a great meal, awesome service and friendly patrons. read more

I ordered BBQ King off of Uber Eats. I ordered the half rack of ribs (thin end), a chopped pork sandwich and baked beans. I clicked the option for forks (asked for 4). What I got was 6 ribs in total, two pieces of bread with about a quarter cup of what was supposed to be chopped pork but was in reality a mix of pork and beef, the sandwich contained MOSTLY Fat and Gristle. (I got no silverware and only one napkin!) I called with hopes of getting the food replaced. Instead the woman who answered the phone was EXTREMELY rude. I was charged $6 for a small side beans even though the menu says it is $3. I paid $7.30 for the Gristle sandwich. All total for this horrible lunch...$42.00! When I called to see how to get my money back, a female answered and told me that that is what a sandwich is supposed to look like and they won't be back in til Wednesday and then she hung up on me. Real basic and real good. Yes the neighborhood is "colorful", but I felt safe there. The chopped pork sandwitch was only $4.50 and it was huge! Nice smokey flavor and cooked just right. No slaw available. The Hot BBQ sauce is HOT. I would not get it again. It tasted like they add a lot of tabassco to their mild sauce. It was still really good, but next time I will get medium or a mix. The beans were great, with little pieces of pork and tasted home made or at least "doctored". The potato salad was pretty good. Tasty and for a great price! I have been to Bar-B-Que King in West Tampa as well as Jackson Heights. The location in West Tampa is very ideal, the people in this area are quite friendly so don't assume the worst. My experience as I walked into this establishment made it feel like home, nice friendly staff and I was greeted as if they knew me. Now on to the part most of you are waiting to hear about. The food to me is amazing! The ribs, chopped pork, smoked sausage, the sides, and OMG the deserts are absolutely yummy! The meat is tender and everything has flavor. I have to say please make sure you get some extra sauce... Let me tell you. That sauce gives me life and I put it on things I cook at home. An all-purpose one-stop opportunity.....like a Super Walmart....in one building you can get pit BBQ, a bar & package store...3 doors & shared staff. The BBQ is fine, sides likewise with very good grilled sausage &beans, but the ambiance is a bit off-putting to some. It is a little shop on Main, just east of Howard and often has street guys loitering out front, so you may get panhandled. Staff was quite friendly although I expect they do not get many customers as pale as me. They are still open so any suspected violation of health or other regs have not been enough to shut them down. Take-out only, but I suppose you could go in the middle door to the bar to get a beer with your grilled sausage. It gives a great fragrance to the neighborhood, but not a real attractive appearance. Have scouted it several times before venturing a full-daylight visit. Doubt I would visit after dark and I am an adventuresome type.......just not entirely fool-hardy. read more

The place didn't have all of the side items listed, like mac and cheese. Big mistake. The potato salad was bland, just egg and mayo and the collard greens seasoned with pork, salt and pepper. Not outstanding at all. The vegetables definitely lack flavor. I got a full slab of ribs. No exceptional flavor. Taste like smoke and they covered it up with their bbq sauce. Big mistake. I'd frequented Mr. VJ's barbeque restaurant growing up and had not had a bite in several years and decided to stop by for a family take out order. I called to confirm if the restaurant was open for business in lieu of the Covid-19 pandemic. I arrived and preceded to open the restaurant's screened door to place my order. I was stopped and asked by the employee to wait outdoors for 15 mins. As a health care professional I totally appreciate all businesses that comply with state orders in an effort to keep their establishment safe for customers and employees. As I'm patiently waiting outdoors, in the heat for well over 20 mins, I'm witnessing other customers walking in and not coming out which was baffling to me because I thought I was asked to stand outside to reduce crowding indoors. So I returned to the screened door and asked the employee would it be better for me to call in my order. The employee responds by saying, "no, it's first come first serve".
