Combo platter with pulled brisket and turkey. Greens and tots.
    John B.

My family and I joined some friends at Wicked Oak for dinner on a Saturday night. This local BBQ place offers up tasty meats and side in a small but hip spot in Seminole Heights. The parking it tight, but I was able to get a spot in the few limited spaces. I can imagine parking can get dicey if it's super busy. It's a little tight inside too but luckily the majority of the indoor space is for seating. Order at the counter and they bring it out to you. The guy that took our orders started with all the item they were sold out of. Luckily, that didn't impact us too much. I ordered a two meat plate with pulled brisket, smoked turkey and two sides, tots and collard greens. My wife ordered pulled pork with mac and cheese and coleslaw. I would have preferred sliced brisket, but they were out of that. We also wanted to try the boiled peanuts, but that was also sold out. We grabbed a table. The food didn't take long. My BBQ plate looked pretty traditional, meats and sides laid out on a paper lined tray. Ample portions! Really good value for $18. The pulled brisket comes sauced. It was top quality, not fatty, moist and was exactly what I was looking for. This was excellent as is. The smoked turkey was also great. It was lean and smokey with a good bark on it. I topped this with their regular sweet house made BBQ sauce. The greens were cooked perfectly, tender with bits of meat in them, swimming in their own juices. The tots were crispy, crunchy and hit the spot for that fried bite. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our meal. It was filling and we had a great time of fellowship. I'd definitely come back here.

So I'm notoriously difficult and picky when it comes to bbq. Cool place, good atmosphere. We caught them at the end of the day before they close. I'll have to go back for another review before I score them more in depth.... But over all worth the stop

Was in the area with my son and we always wanted to try this place. Finally went got a chance and was a bit disappointed. I came in with too much high hopes. Service was ok, wasn't much help when I asked the platter could feed both us but we shared it anyway. We got the 2 meat platter ribs and Brisket. Didn't know the brisket would be shredded got the Mac with the cornbread casserole. Casserole was very good, Mac was on the ribs and brisket was not even warm and its shareable platter it's more for 1 person. Did not want to complain we were hungry and we didn't want to wait. Even though we shouldn't have to at a Bbq place it should always come out hot. They had a watermelon ice tea that was bomb. I could've took the whole container of it and drunk it lol and they have an apple Bbq sauce that was amazing. If I'm ever around the way I would give it one chance cause I don't wanna judge it for being the first time I like to give 2nd chance. But 1st impression was ok. Could've been better

8/10 nachos. I was very pleasantly surprised by these. They kept the dish basic because the meat speaks for itself. The meat was the backbone of the nachos. I got the chicken. It was very well done and packed with flavor. And not dry like most shredded chicken. I also liked how they have two types of cheese. One was the queso type and the other was a shredded blend. The chips were fine. Solid amount of food for the price. Would definitely get again.

When I tell you I've waited a long time to enjoy some GREAT BBQ in Tampa again I am not playing around. I am proud to say that I was a member of Alex's BBQ back in the day. I worked there in high school and I'm very skeptical about great BBQ in Tampa. If you know about Alex's you know what BBQ royalties are all about. So let me say that Wicked Oak BBQ is where it's at in Tampa FL!!! AMAZING flavor and meats! Creative sauces and excellent sides! Especially the collards!!! BAM!!!! Now that's how BBQ should be prepared!!! I can't wait to order again!!! See photos! That Wicked Juice tastes like Tampas own version of Purple Jungle Juice

BBQ sauces: top- Apple & mango and bottom guava & regular

Sunday 9/15/2024 My family was out getting food while I was in the crib and asked me if wanted anything from here. I looked at the menu and decided to give it a shot. I got a combo platter of ribs (+$2) & wangs (+$2) with Mac n cheese & baked beans. I also got several different bbq sauces: regular, mango, apple, & guava. - The ribs were my favorite item. They were decent and seasoned well to create a good flavor. - The wangs were alright but some of them were a little burnt. Also the wings would've been better if they were tossed in the bbq sauce but instead they came out plain with the sauce automatically going on the side. - The Mac n cheese was alright but the noodles could've been cooked a bit more. - The baked beans were very mediocre. They tasted like canned beans from a store. - The sauces were all very unique and interesting. My rankings would go regular, mango, apple, and then guava. Overall, my bbq experience here was alright but nothing really memorable or impressive to me. Although I wasn't crazy about it, the rest of my family ended up enjoying it a good amount.

I ordered through UberEats as we wanted to try it but are a bit further and never really down in that area and I was excited to see they would deliver to us one day we were really craving barbecue. There was a lot of hype I've seen and stellar reviews so my expectations were pretty high and honestly, they were not met. All of the meats were cooked well and stood decently on their own. Specifically the pulled pork, smoked sausage and wings were pretty good. The brisket was not really as expected - my husband wasn't a fan, but I normally don't like brisket and liked this one. Some of the meats had a heavier smoky flavor, which isn't my favorite but overall the meats were pretty okay. The sauces for me were a real let down. We tried the sweet and apple bbq. The sweet had a smokiness and heartiness to it - it was fine but not anything special. The apple bbq was very thin and getting close to more of a vinaigrette which was interesting, but I really didn't find it that appealing. It worked fairly well with the pulled chicken though. As far as the sides, the hog feed was my favorite thing we ordered. It's a cornbread casserole that has a tiny kick to it - very tasty! The baked beans I had were just slightly better than canned beans from the store, so that wasn't ideal. The collards were pretty good. The Mac and cheese lacked flavor - not a fan, neither was my daughter who hardly ever turns down Mac and cheese but did today. The tots were disappointing because the inside wasn't fully cooked - still had the undercooked potato chew inside. We also tried the boiled peanuts, which my daughter devoured. The wicked purple drink - the violet lemonade - I had such high hopes for but no one in our family would get past a sip. The whipped banana pudding was good had good flavor and definitely a unique twist having the whipped texture but it worked well! Overall, it was decent but the hype around it had me expecting far better. Just due to not liking so many items including their sauces, the location being out of the way, the price being high (maybe more due to the delivery), and us having better barbecue nearby - we won't likely return.

Flavortown BBQ! If you're craving some grilled meats this is the place in Tampa! We ordered a 1/2 lb of brisket and the Tampa style sandwich with brisket and mac. The meat was super tender along with their yummy sweet sauce. The Texas toast was so buttery and delicious. We would for sure order again and try more meats - also good portions and prices.

Half pulled chicken, half pulled pork Baked beans Mac and cheese $19 with no drink, not bad

Only critique: they close really early. 7pm they are done (at least during the week) The rest is good! Portions are solid, I usually get to-go but the seating is unique and available. They have four bbqs available also to choose from.

Doesn't look like much on the outside but if you let your nose lead the way, you wont be disappointed. This was my first time so I really leaned on reviews and employees favorites for help on this one and I already can't wait to come back for round two. I love the open kitchen concept. Always been a fan and this is no different. You order at the counter and take a seat in their dining room or to go. We tried their wings in the wicked mango sauce per suggestion and holy spot on. They're smoked first and then fried "for a little extra somethin' somethin'". We added some baked beans and coleslaw which were great but after looking at the table's plate of tots next to us we knew where we could've done better. We did order some ribs to go to make up for it. We also tried their wicked juice which is a violet infused lemonade and refreshing as ever. I can see why they have such a stacked trophy room. They know a thing or five about good bbq. Will absolutely come back

2 meat platter with two sides. Mac and cheese was well seasoned and the potatoes salad creamy. I got the pulled chicken and pulled brisket.

OMG DELICIOUS!!!! You can smell the food as you walk in and it was amazing! Service was top-tier every one was so pleasant especially the cooks! The sweet tea so perfect. This was my boyfriend and I's first time coming and it did not disappoint.

The sausage was amazing. Unsweetened tea was good, as well as potato salad and beans. Cons: the ribs were very large, tender and had a great smoke flavor but that's it. They were pretty fatty, although still had a decent amount of meat. But there was no real flavor to the meat other than the "smoke". The brisket was tender also but flavorless. I tried both sauces. Both taste very ketchup based with the Hot just being super spicy. I mixed the sausage and brisket together to eat so it would help the brisket. The location is great and in walking distance in Ybor, from the trolly or locals. Little house like place with two tvs on. One playing sports while the other was playing some Jerry Springer style lame drama, and was plenty loud for us to hear. Overall, very disappointed. The Smoker was going and gave us high hopes but lack of flavor made for a very dull meal.

Full disclosure: this place is busy. We waited in line outside for about 30 minutes to get inside to order. There are some tents and fans, as well as free bottled water available while you wait which helps make it a little more bearable. But I would do it all over again, that's how great this place is. Once you order there are a lot of seating options including an outside patio, indoor AC, and a bar with some nice AC circulation. Lastly, we arrived around 1 pm (they close at 4) and they were out of a few different menu options so I would recommend getting there earlier if you want your best shot at everything. I'm going to start with the positives: love to see a local black owned business! The customer service is always 10/10 and the prices are extremely reasonable for the portions and quality. The brisket was probably some of the best if not the best I've ever had. When I talk specifically about consistency, the food is sometimes heavily salted to the point of no return. Seasoned food and salty food- two different things. This batch of sides were too salty and not appetizing. The ribs were bland so it was hard to accept that the same person was seasoning the food. This family meal cost around $60 and we didn't want to leave the house again to get it corrected. I've had food here several times and it was great. It just didn't hit the mark this time.
