I'm honestly torn on the rating for this place. We ordered through Uber Eats and they forgot one of the more expensive items in our bag. We called and they had great customer service and offered to let us come pick it up and throw in a dessert. However, when you've already paid for delivery and a tip, it's just really annoying. We are glad we did pick it up because the dirty dog was our favorite menu item and that was what was missing. My husband said the deconstructed rib sandwich was "ok". The Tampa 2 had so much potential, but the bread was soggy and the Mac and cheese really didn't have much flavor. My son did love his pulled pork sandwich and banana pudding. My family and I joined some friends at Wicked Oak for dinner on a Saturday night. This local BBQ place offers up tasty meats and side in a small but hip spot in Seminole Heights. The parking it tight, but I was able to get a spot in the few limited spaces. I can imagine parking can get dicey if it's super busy. It's a little tight inside too but luckily the majority of the indoor space is for seating. Order at the counter and they bring it out to you. The guy that took our orders started with all the item they were sold out of. Luckily, that didn't impact us too much. I ordered a two meat plate with pulled brisket, smoked turkey and two sides, tots and collard greens. My wife ordered pulled pork with mac and cheese and coleslaw. I would have preferred sliced brisket, but they were out of that. We also wanted to try the boiled peanuts, but that was also sold out. We grabbed a table. The food didn't take long. My BBQ plate looked pretty traditional, meats and sides laid out on a paper lined tray. Ample portions! Really good value for $18. The pulled brisket comes sauced. It was top quality, not fatty, moist and was exactly what I was looking for. This was excellent as is. The smoked turkey was also great. It was lean and smokey with a good bark on it. I topped this with their regular sweet house made BBQ sauce. The greens were cooked perfectly, tender with bits of meat in them, swimming in their own juices. The tots were crispy, crunchy and hit the spot for that fried bite. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our meal. It was filling and we had a great time of fellowship. Was in the area with my son and we always wanted to try this place. Finally went got a chance and was a bit disappointed. I came in with too much high hopes. Service was ok, wasn't much help when I asked the platter could feed both us but we shared it anyway. We got the 2 meat platter ribs and Brisket. Didn't know the brisket would be shredded got the Mac with the cornbread casserole. Casserole was very good, Mac was on the ribs and brisket was not even warm and its shareable platter it's more for 1 person. Did not want to complain we were hungry and we didn't want to wait. Even though we shouldn't have to at a Bbq place it should always come out hot. They had a watermelon ice tea that was bomb. YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE! Not only was the food out of this world, but the staff was so kind. They were patient while we perused the menu (it's an order-at-the-counter type of vibe) and when we wanted something specific, they made it happen! Heck, even the person who delivered our food to the table said she was eyeing the custom sandwich my wife ordered. Pro Tip: If you can, try to eat in house. They have this incredible jalapeño oil on the table with their barbecue sauces and it just set every single thing off!! I added it liberally to the hog feed side (jalapeño cornbread casserole) and it made it this amazingly soft texture. It highlighted the jalapeño flavor that was already there and I'm still thinking about it. They also just launched a new flavor of BBQ sauce, GOLD!!!! And it is, in fact, gold. I still love the other flavors but this one is top notch and easily my new favorite. We now frequent this place at least 1-2 a month so we've tried a lot of the menu now. You NEED to try the boiled peanuts. They are the smokiest peanuts you've ever had with a little kick. The Smokebomb (loaded potato) is incredible!! And the sweet tea is something to write home about. This is another place that I have been going to since it opened. The reason being that it started in the same building that King of the Coop was in at the time. Made it easy for me to check it out, especially since it was recommended by our good friend, Joe. My original go-to was the Pulled Chicken sandwich. Pretty straightforward sandwich but, so good. The chicken is moist/juicy and full of flavor. The sweet BBQ is my favorite sauce of theirs. The baked beans are to DIE FOR - bar none, the best baked beans I've had - you HAVE TO try them! For the past 4-ish years, my favorite thing to get is the Loaded Mac with Pulled Chicken, add queso. I also order the baked beans and mix those in. I often get the Loaded Mac from their location at Amalie Arena during Lightning games as well but, they don't offer the pulled chicken, nor the queso so, I sauce it up with the sweet BBQ. But, back to this location, it's got quite the storied Seminole Heights past, with places like Florida Ave Eats, Chop Chop Shop, King of the Coop and other Seminole Heights staples occupying it's walls so, quite the reputation to live up to - they have done just that! They have some of the best BBQ I've had the pleasure of trying. The interior shows Bubba (the owner) and the restaurant's love for the city, through the various Tampa sports flags and murals. It's comfortable in there, with a nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating - so, you can mix your choices up, depending on the weather. The food is fairly priced and quantities are great. All employees that I have interacted with have been friendly and accommodating. This is a great example of how a locally owned business should be ran. Sunday 9/15/2024 My family was out getting food while I was in the crib and asked me if wanted anything from here. I looked at the menu and decided to give it a shot. I got a combo platter of ribs (+$2) & wangs (+$2) with Mac n cheese & baked beans. I also got several different bbq sauces: regular, mango, apple, & guava. - The ribs were my favorite item. They were decent and seasoned well to create a good flavor. - The wangs were alright but some of them were a little burnt. Also the wings would've been better if they were tossed in the bbq sauce but instead they came out plain with the sauce automatically going on the side. - The Mac n cheese was alright but the noodles could've been cooked a bit more. - The baked beans were very mediocre. They tasted like canned beans from a store. - The sauces were all very unique and interesting. My rankings would go regular, mango, apple, and then guava. Very pricey. I ordered a pork sandwich and it tasted like boiled pork. It had a lot of smoked flavoring to it, which I would assume was done with liquid smoke. If they have a combo with the pork sandwich, I was not told at the time I placed my order in person I ordered a side of corn pudding and also boiled peanuts. My total bill was $29 and the food is not worth the price. I was very disappointed. Everything was dry. I ordered through UberEats as we wanted to try it but are a bit further and never really down in that area and I was excited to see they would deliver to us one day we were really craving barbecue. There was a lot of hype I've seen and stellar reviews so my expectations were pretty high and honestly, they were not met. All of the meats were cooked well and stood decently on their own. Specifically the pulled pork, smoked sausage and wings were pretty good. The brisket was not really as expected - my husband wasn't a fan, but I normally don't like brisket and liked this one. Some of the meats had a heavier smoky flavor, which isn't my favorite but overall the meats were pretty okay. The sauces for me were a real let down. We tried the sweet and apple bbq. The sweet had a smokiness and heartiness to it - it was fine but not anything special. The apple bbq was very thin and getting close to more of a vinaigrette which was interesting, but I really didn't find it that appealing. It worked fairly well with the pulled chicken though. As far as the sides, the hog feed was my favorite thing we ordered. It's a cornbread casserole that has a tiny kick to it - very tasty! The baked beans I had were just slightly better than canned beans from the store, so that wasn't ideal. The collards were pretty good. The Mac and cheese lacked flavor - not a fan, neither was my daughter who hardly ever turns down Mac and cheese but did today. The tots were disappointing because the inside wasn't fully cooked - still had the undercooked potato chew inside. We also tried the boiled peanuts, which my daughter devoured. The wicked purple drink - the violet lemonade - I had such high hopes for but no one in our family would get past a sip. The whipped banana pudding was good had good flavor and definitely a unique twist having the whipped texture but it worked well! They're smoked first and then fried "for a little extra somethin' somethin'". I said Station House was my favorite BBQ in Tampa, but HNNNNGH I'm not so sure anymore! The brisket was super tender and juicy, the sausage had a really unique flavor to it, and both the hog feed and texas toast were really light and fluffy. I also got two sauces, the mango and the guava. I liked how they were on the thinner side, and the mango had a nice kick to it-- definitely my favorite one. I appreciated how they wrapped up the toast inside the box as well, lots of BBQ places I feel just let the bread get all soggy. The place itself was really cool with a fun purple theme both inside and out. Tables were clean, staff was really friendly and always smiling. Tried this place based on all of the awesome reviews and sadly it didn't live up to the hype for me. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but the sausage was dry and the pulled chicken lacked flavor (even after I soaked it in the sweet "spicy" bbq sauce). The potato salad and the bread was good.... Mac n cheese was different... not super cheesy or anything. They're a bit overpriced in my opinion (and trust me I have no problem paying for food if it's good). The service is fast, they get you in and out pretty quickly . I went on a weekday during lunch so there was no wait. I'm really surprised some people say this is the BEST bbq in tampa. For the BBQ they are about middle of the pack in Tampa. Their combo compare to many place they are right portion not the generous portion. We got the combo package with collard greens and sweet corn as side. The main meat is the hog feed and the rib and brisket. The hog feed is the pull pork. I think the rib is better. Brisket is just good. We also got the pork sandwich. Their food is good but not to jump out the seat. Price is a bit in the expensive side. Why 5 stars? Because it's no wonder they're so popular. --- --- --- This building has certainly been through quite a few different restaurants over the last five years, but I think this is the best concept. Technically, the last occupant, King of the Coop, just moved into the shared space next door. I assume it's all under the same ownership since there's no physical separation between the restaurants. But King of the Coop is great too - definitely an upgrade from the previous tenants: a biscuit shop and a pizza shop. Maybe there was even something else mixed in there? Either way, there were around 15 people in here either waiting to order or waiting on their food. I didn't expect that, but now that I've eaten it, I get it. Everything we ordered ranged from good to amazing. Tater Tots. Certainly not bad - just typical. I kind of wished we'd gotten the loaded version, but the plain ones were fine: 4-stars. Hog Feed: aka Cornbread Casserole. I dug it. I'd absolutely order it again. 4.5 stars Loaded mac-n-cheese: We opted for pulled pork and very much enjoyed it. The mac itself was a bit basic, but overall this was a great dish, especially with the sweet BBQ sauce poured on top. 4.5 stars. 813 Wangs: Wings, but with one special difference: they are every so slightly fried just to give them a bit more texture. These were great and I wish more places did their wings like this. 5 stars. Tampa Two: Pulled pork, mac-n-cheese, queso and Texas Toast. All things I love and when put together, my love is amplified.
