Since moving to West Chester a little over a year ago, we've tried several restaurants in the area and none have impressed me as much as Bar Avalon. From the attention to details by the entire staff, the impeccable service of waiters and waitresses, to the delicious food, and the well crafted drinks from the bar- it's all absolutely perfect!!' One of the only restaurants that actually brings you an adequate amount of alcohol in your drink! I would say the only downside is there isn't much in the way of quiet corners to have a romantic date. Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere is really beautiful but the bar often gets crowded so the noise carries into the rest of the restaurant. This one downfall aside, this restaurant still beats out the "fancy restaurant" we tried recently in the Burrough for our anniversary and I REALLY wish we had gone here instead! Great atmosphere on the street. Our waitress, Olympia was great. Unfortunately 3 of us had a salad with the alleged filet tips. When we sent it back because it was bad the manager snapped at us. I went to Bar Avalon this past weekend with my family. The hostess was friendly and we were greenly promptly by our server. The server Casey was very knowledgeable and explained all the specials to us and took our drinks. Our food arrived and it was really good. Our server made sure our food was exactly what we ordered. We visited for the first time on a Friday night, and will certainly be back. The outdoor seating is pleasant, and the staff is friendly and efficient. The food is 10 points. My fiancée and I had been wanting to try Avalon for quite sometime since they opened in West Chester. Last week, I decided to take her there on a date night. We made reservations thinking that the place would be pretty packed for a Saturday night - we came to find there were plenty of tables available. We did our due diligence and looked at the menu prior. So we went in knowing what we were going to order. Overall, we felt the service was okay. It's wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't terrible either. Our waiter didn't really check up on us too much (especially for drinks), but he was knowledgeable regarding questions we had about the menu. The wine menu is pretty impressive to say the least. You certainly will not have any trouble finding something to drink, regardless of whether you're into beer, cocktail or wine . My family had a great experience with really good food. We shared an assortment of appetizers and one was better than the next. The fried calimari was light and crispy with a drizzle of lemon creme was a favorite with everyone. The egg rolls with short ribs and cheese were fabulous. Me and jeff (my lover and committed partner for life) ate here last week on a slow tuesday (the place was dead) and ordered the crab stuffed lobster tail w/ pecan pie glaze and porcini mushroom crumble as well as the chicken makhani with sage butter sauce. To summarize the crab tasted like a pile of nail clippings but in a blender and mixed with pure powdered sugar in a ravioli. The chicken tasted like a leather boot dipped in moose urine. I wish I could give Avalon 10 stars! We just had my son's graduation/going away party at Avalon. John (the owner) and the entire staff bent over backwards to accommodate us. Everything was top notch! The food, the décor, and the staff were all excellent! The antipasto was fresh, plentiful with a wide assortment of choices. The pizzas were hot out of the oven and to die for. We chose a buffet option with mixed green salad, chicken saltimbocca (the best I have ever had), pasta bolognese, and penne alfredo. Everyone raved about the food. Love, love, love the new place! We have dined at Avalon a handful of times including the Downingtown Boro one when it was open. Chef John continues to impress, not only with the great space they now have but with his amazing menu. We were there a couple of weeks ago without reservations during the Christmas parade when my sons and I decided to have a sit down dinner while watching the parade since it was raining out. John and his staff were so accommodating and found us a great seats close enough to the windows to watch the parade go by. We ordered several apps and then some basics. We recently celebrated a 40th birthday at Avalon for 30 people. They delivered a very memorable evening from start to finish and as the host, I really didn't have to worry about anything. John and his staff, especially Alejandra (sp:?:) and Jen did an amazing job planning the event with me and were ready as soon as the guest started to arrive. The staff greeted the guests, took their coat, and their drink order during cocktail hour. John worked with me on the location of the cocktail hour and it worked out perfectly. It was impressive as the staff remembered what the guests were drinking and promptly refilled them. We then moved into another room for dinner. The décor in our reserved room (middle dining room) was suitable and the candlelight on the tables and the wall added a special touch. They allowed us to add centerpieces to the table earlier in the day. The service was prompt, polite, and efficient. A nice bottle of Schafer was opened for the Birthday Guy and the food started coming out in no time. The risotto balls appetizer were crispy and really tasty for a fried app. The Calamari with the dipping sauce was perfectly cooked. The big hit was the effin' hot lobster which was a complex blend of various peppers to create a really spicy, yet flavorful relish on the crab and lobster. We would definitely order that again! Went there for my birthday on a Thursday night and there weren't many customers as we sat down at 6:30. We asked to be seated outside to enjoy the warm June weather. The outdoor seating were somewhat uncomfortable, but the food made up for it. I would of given it 4 stars except for some minor glitches. We were promptly greeted and served. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share. The best was the grilled calamari. The beets salad was ok but not great. For diner, I had the fish special which was a amber jack that was grilled to perfection. However, my friend ordered the special beef filet and asked for rare but got well done instead. We spoke up and the server promptly took it back and brought another one a few minutes later that was cooked just right. The side pairings on all the dishes were excellent as well. Continues to be a great choice in my mind. Have been twice recently and fully enjoyed both meals. Both the pasta and main courses have been excellent. Last time in we got a cheese/meat plate and the longhots for an appetizer. Both were fantastic and I would highly recommend. Wine and drink selection is good and not overpriced. Service has been hit or miss but nothing bad. I ate at both Avalon and Mercato this week and would chose Avalon every time for almost every reason- food, drinks, service. I've eaten at Avalon many times (over 30) at the prior 2 locations and at their new location. The food is very good, without a doubt. I enjoy it very much... however, the wine list is not for us. Let me explain... at our table, you would likely be pouring Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Tignanello, Shafer's Hillside Select and a much earlier vintage so that it was properly aged. Here, you have to drink what they have (and I get it) but it's changed the experience for us. Just charge a reasonable corkage fee on Friday and Saturday night ($10 a bottle) to cover your bar expenses and I'd be happy... Please note that JBL did respond and there is a 5 dollar corkage fee on Sunday and Tuesday. All other nights are 20 dollars. Thank you JBL, we will see you soon! read more

Hour and a half for a simple bruschetta. mains finally came out 15 minutes after that. when we spoke to the manager didnt even offer an apology and suggested it was our fault seeing how we had a larger group. Other tables showed up 40 minutes after us, ate and paid even before our apps came out. absolutely ridiculous. food was cold and mediocre at best. everyone in the group all agreed we will never go back. read more
