(Probably a 3- or 4-star meal, but I bumped the review to 5 given how accommodating and friendly the staff was. Read on.) After the sandwich, I was onto my 2nd cup of tea, and wanted a pastry to go with it. They have a good selection. The waitress ushered me over to take a look at their pastries at the counter. (Almost had a tapas feel to it, except it was a countertop full of pastries.) I wanted something with fruit in it, and she described some of the pastries they had, but thought I might find them too sweet, and suggested that I might be happier with a blueberry muffin instead. I don't know how she could possibly have known what I would like or wouldn't like, but the muffin ended up being an excellent choice for me (and went well with the tea to boot!). This was a MOUND of fresh, gently sautéed asparagus layered with large, peeled shrimp, and bound together with scrambled egg. Now, I can put away some food, but this was just HUGE. The asparagus was very tasty indeed, as was the shrimp - but there is a limit to how much I can eat, and I just couldn't finish it all! It was DELICIOUS and I wouldn't hesitate to order it again, but would prefer to share with someone. We'd read Linda C.'s review about the carrot cake, and we were sold on that, so... yeah, it was wonderfully presented, and gratefully eaten! All in all, this place merited all five stars.

The chicken soup was simple but warmed us up with the hot broth and bits of chicken and vegetables. It could've been more substantial. The main entree seafood paella was underwhelming in many ways. First it was cooked in a nonstick pan so we didn't get any of the crunchy rice that we've come to expect. There also was a lack of seafood variety inside with just shrimp, calamari and maybe fish so it was rather unexciting to eat. Other places include at least clams and mussels. Lastly it was a bit too salty for our tastes. Maybe their other dishes were better but not impressed with what we ordered.

Most of the outdoor tables were taken, but we snagged the last two spots at the inside bar. We had a cana (small beer) for 2.50€ and a manzanilla (apple wine I think?) for 2.80€. I've never had apple wine before, but I don't think I'm a fan. It wasn't as sweet as I was expecting and tasted on the drier side. As part of our drinks, we got some complimentary fried fish which was delicious. We also ordered a half portion of the berenjenas fritas (8€), which is fried eggplant. It's served with honey on the side that you can drizzle over the eggplant. I don't like eggplant at all because of the taste and texture, but I couldn't taste that this was eggplant at all, so I really enjoyed it. It was surprisingly good with the honey, and I ended up eating more than I expected to. Casa Julio seems to be known for the berenjenas (pretty much every group ordered it at the bar), so would definitely recommend trying it here!
