Came to Rosario Varela during our Grenada stay over and enjoyed the foods and a couple drinks. The atmosphere is rustic (almost American western) but features a pretty neat menu with bites we had yet to experience. We started the meal with some sangrias. Admittedly they were a little weak but the fresh fruits on top were a nice touch, especially the muscat grape! My favorites of the night was one of the fatty slices of pork off the "from the land" sampler (possibly the pork dewlap) and the torrenzos. The dewlap was tender and so flavorful! Their aged Cecina de león was also very good. The burrata and caper berries were my favorite additional accoutrements on this platter. As for the torrenzo, wow! It was sliced crispy pork belly served with a sweet and sour green mojo sauce. You should definitely try this dish. For a unique dish, we opted for the courgette pappardelle which were thin slices of zucchinis marinated in citrus, pineapple gel, pesto, and pepitas. It seemed so simple but it was super refreshing! When it came to service, it was slow. Definitely an at your pace kind of spot. If you don't wave the staff over, they will not come. Period. When we left close to 9:30pm there was a long line out the door so it's clearly a popular spot! Glad we came! read more

We actually came here to eat two days in a row because the food was so good! Each drink came with a free tapa and every tapa was absolutely delicious. We ordered the red sangria which I really enjoyed but there is a lot of ice so you might want to tell them to go easy on the ice. The bathrooms were clean and beautifully decorated as well as the Decour of the restaurant. We had a lot of dishes but I didn't get a chance to take a picture of everything. We ate: The octopus (2 days in a row!) The pork ribs on the bone The meat and burrata platter Service was nice and well paced. They didn't rush us, but heads up- bring a person that speaks Spanish because in this part of town their English is limited. read more

Glad we found this little place, definitely better than the other tapas places we've tried in Seville and Malaga. The portions were bigger than small plates traditional tapas, I think they were more like fusion tapas. The pork ribs were delicious, but I didn't really appreciate the sugar on top, the buffalo sauce that came with the ribs was yummy. Their giant tomato was refreshing, however it was way too big, I felt tomatoed out. read more

This was our favorite tapas experience in all of Spain. Felt like an incredibly authentic, cool spot. Great music (mix of 60s-70s American and Spanish), lighting and atmosphere. We stopped in for a couple of drinks and enjoyed the incredible tapas that came with each - a grilled, serrano-wrapped asparagus on a crusty baguette, followed by marinated sardines on thinly sliced bread. We were either so charmed or so inebriated (or some combination thereof) that we abandoned our plan to wander to different spots and kind of settled in for the late night - ordered an incredible beet hummus served with sliced carrots & celery (highly recommended) and a nice cheese plate and just hung out and enjoyed the friendly service, great wine and excellent vibe. read more

The best part about Rosario Varela is that it is open before most other restaurants are and they have a very interesting food menu. However, we didn't like either of the food items we ordered there. I'd say this is a good spot for a beverage when waiting for nearby restaurants to open up! read more

We took The Original Tapas Crawl tour and Rosario Varela was one of the stops. Great vibe. The staff was so great. The food was excellent. Fish is not a big part of my diet but a young man showed up at the table with a blow torch to "BBQ" us some Sardines like they usually do great in old wooden boats on the beach in Malaga. The sardines were served on tomato toast. Delicious. We also had some beef. It's not really clear to me everything we were eating because we were on a tour and our guide was ordering everything but the staff was wonderful and the food was delicious. I don't drink alcohol but my sister enjoyed drinking a Vermouth. This place is delicious, fresh, cool environment. Perfect place for a night out with friends. Loved the decor. read more

On the corner of Calle Varela and Navas, Rosario Varela is a busy, popular tapas bar in the heart of Granada. The ambiance, interior is rustic with a lot of wood finishing giving it a warm feeling. In terms of space, it's probably one of the bigger bars in the area with ample inside (dentro) and some outdoor (afuera) seating. Prices, like most bars in the area are reasonable, so I took advantage of their glass of wine with a complimentary tapas. The service is friendly and efficient. Overall place is clean, but I definitely have to come back to this place to try other things listed in the menu. So far so good. read more

This place is unbelievable. As authentic as it gets. We enjoyed many plates including the meat and cheese sampler with hummus and caviar, crudo (raw meat served with olive oil), and rare steak with potatoes. We enjoyed free tapas tastings with each beverage. They have an extensive vermouth menu for under 3 euro per glass each. Our meal for two was 50 euros and we were stuffed full of drink and food. This fairly new spot should give the famous La Tana a run for its money. They've only been in business since about June 2016 and the place was already packed on a Wednesday night in December between Christmas and New Years. The bar reminded me a lot of a place you'd see in Jersey City or Brooklyn or any other hipster town in America. Exposed vents. Wild wallpaper. Chic music. Servers and bartenders dressed in denim shirts. Fancy cocktails. The one tapa I had was delicious. Ham and cheese with pesto. Unlike a lot of other tapas bars in Spain, these guys actually season theirs. Really friendly staff and a very cool hang out spot. They'll do well and I hope it's still here the next time I come to town, which hopefully isn't in 11 years like my latest visit. read more

We are currently visiting Granada for the weekend to visit a friend who is living here. This is the first place we go to when getting here and we're super excited after a recommendation. Everything was great, until the hostess/our waiter (same person) was completely horriblly rude. The majority off us were from Barcelona and here for the weekend, where they don't serve tapas for free with your drink. We had heard they did that here. But after we sat down suddenly someone put down 2 sandwiches. We were confused but thought it was part of the free tapas so we ate them, super excited! Then the mean waitor came over to us and got angry that we got them and told us we could only have 2 more tapas because we ate others. We were so confused and explained this to them. Then we ordered drinks and some food. While ordering he told us "that's enough" even though we weren't down ordering, making us feel extremely uncomfortable. Later, when ordering another drink we asked if they come with tapas. He got angry at us asking it appeared and that point we just told him we were sorry and not from here and just wanted to understand how it worked. With an extremely aggravating look on his face, he explained that there are 4 types of tapas that come with your drink (not spirits). We are extremely gutted by how this man treated us and pretty much ruined our first night here. We were just trying to learn, but he did not care. Also he had an accent not from Spain (British?), we couldn't place it, but wouldn't it make sense that he try to give some slack to people just trying to ask questions and not offend? We stopped here because the other place was full and it turned out great. The waiter was very friendly and helpfull, he immediately arranged a table for us. You should try the mojito and the carpaccio was to die for! With every drink you get a different free tapas, so at the end we were full and the bill was not high at all. read more

We were awaited outside for a while being.serviced, and waited for 5 mins for drinks, not even olive was served, and the check was 9 euro we paid 10 euros, the arrogant waiter didn't gave us change! The food here is amazing...very hip, and very delicious. We went with our three kids (who like to try new flavors), and the staff couldn't be more welcoming. What a wonderful discovery. We were looking for a place to eat but every place seems super expensive or cold and zero atmosphere. We saw this resturant and said it's over 100 years old - let's try it. So glad we did. Food was fantastic. The tapas we got with our drink was a delicious potato with sun-dried tomato on bread that was exactly what we were looking for. Then we had a pita with chicken cheese and pesto also perfect. Then we finished with a steak with potatoes and chimichuro sauce that was just perfect. All along they have great music playing in the background and the restaurant has a wonderful charm to it.
