This casual bar/restaurant has a great, friendly feeling, and they serve excellent food and beer. Even though they don't have a kitchen as such, they serve a number of hot and cold items that are as good as from a kitchen. We ordered a pastela with chicken, which is a filo dough crust surrounding a center of chicken, egg and spices (mainly cinnamon) and a Pan Arabe, which is a panini-like sandwich on good local bread with three cheeses, chicken and Granny Smith (or similar) apple.
You don't expect to heat up a cold pastela and get good results, but this was crispy and crunchy on the outside and hot and fragrant on the inside, perfectly cooked as though it had just been made. It was far better than another we had had in a good Moroccan restaurant in Sevilla. The Pan Arabe was so good it was hard to believe it was just cheese and apples on bread. The three cheeses were perfectly chosen to go with the chicken and apple, and the bread was grilled to perfection.
They also serve large platters of cheese and Iberian ham, which looked tasty, and a pate which I wish I could have tasted.
I only tried the IPA, which is one of the several beers brewed by the local Cerveza Sacromonte. It was clean and hoppy, a perfect mid-bitter ale. I wish I remembered the manager's name... he was very friendly and helpful.
If you find yourself in Granada, walk up Carrera del Darro, which runs right next to the river, just north of the Alhambra, and stop in. You'll be glad you did. read more
