A white washed assault on Asian food. It's like the sweet and sour pork of an actual bao. The noddle is super bland. I guess for Victoria it's okay but cmon try to have some spice and love in your food. read more

Came here with Aileen and ordered 4 bao: Taiwanese classic, Chinese BBQ, buttermilk fried chicken, and Nutella banana. They all had Excellent flavor and very tasty. Perfect size. Great spot in Chinatown. read more

Bao - Korean Near Me - Victoria, British Columbia

Went on a Sat night. We had truffle chashu ramen, pork belly ramen, Taiwanese bao, Chinese Bbq bao, and Nutella bao. Maybe I haven't experienced enough fusion but, to me , the experience was like finding out your new Asian friend is completely Canadian but trying to develop his/her Asian side. Taste buds got confused with too many clashing non-fully Asian and Western flavours. Noodles lacked more bite, soup was too strong in soy (we both thought too salty.) Meat tasted like breakfast ham. There was this vinegar pickled mushroom in the soup that I found no resemblance to Chinese or Japanese noodle dishes (I thought the mushrooms had gone bad.) The Taiwanese bao had some resemblance to the real deal except the belly lacked more flavour and sweetness. Chinese Bbq tasted like pulled pork and it clashed with the pickled diced cucumbers. Deep fried Nutella bao was the one thing I appreciated, but you put that stuff in my deep fried shoe I'd prolly eat it. I wished I could say these interacial babies were as cute as other people say it is, but sorry I like the pure breds better in this case. read more

Quite disappointed with this place. Very poor value for your money. The bao's are so tiny and cost $4.50 each (or 3 for $12). I literally ate mine in 5 bites. The portion of meat was pathetic, equivalent to the size of a chicken nugget. They were also wet...yuck. The take-out box had a puddle of liquid at the bottom for some reason, which soaked through the box and made a mess. Same with the wonton dumplings my dad ordered. Can't see this place lasting long. Would NOT recommend. If you want good baos, check out Banh Mi Boys in Toronto... read more

Just in town for one day, we stumbled upon Bao and had a perfectly delicious light lunch. Not only were they graceful at handling our menu questions and requests at the counter, but the food came out quickly and was very delicious. We had a vegetarian ramen soup and a couple vegetarian bao (one mushroom and one black bean). The flavors were intense, fresh, well balanced, and nicely integrated. Highly recommended. I'll seek this place out during my next visit to Victoria. read more

Bao - Vegetarian ramen in the foreground. Vegetarian black bean bao in the background. All very yummy. - Korean Near Me - Victoria, British Columbia

Came twice and still haven't tried their baos - but the truffle chashu ramen is definitely something special. There is a very interesting mixture of flavours in one bowl; I would call it a pleasant surprise given there is a western twist on the dish. Love the sour kick from the mushrooms, but love the truffle broth even more because it is so flavourful, I am drooling as I write this review. Cha shu is on the fattier side. The noodles are also not the typical ramen noodles you get at an authentic Japanese restaurant but I enjoy them. I don't eat spicy so I personally would have preferred my eggs without the spice sprinkled on top but again, it adds to the diverse mixture of flavours. They also serve beer here. One downside is that it is pricey for a bowl of ramen here, I think after tips it came to just over $20. Could also use a bit less scallions. Cute interior. read more

This is one of the only places I know of in town that does Bao, and they do it so good. We tried the pork belly and original and they were just so tasty tasty. We also gave their pork belly ramen a try and it was about a 8/10...so pretty good, but I am still on the hunt for a mouth watering ramen broth (hit me up if you know where I can find one!) We also tried the fried chicken bibimbap bowl, and I 10/10 recommend you drop everything and try this. The chicken is delicious, crispy and moist! Cool little vibe they got going on here (playing some nice jazz). It's an order at the counter type of joint, which I don't love...but the food makes it worth it. read more

This place has incredibly fresh ingredients without compromising the taste! Excellent excellent choices between the bao and decent ramen. For it's location and competitors in its area around Victoria, I can't imagine many other places being significantly better. I personally recommend the Taiwanese classic and the Chinese BBQ. read more

Tan Tan ramen has three of my family members dreaming about our next return. For those who actually love spicy foods, this is truly spicy!!! The buns were taco Style and delicious. We loved the buttermilk chicken, Vietnamese meatball, and the Taiwanese pork. The chicken ramen was tasty. The broth had a touch of seaweed taste (which is so normal!) but not what my kid usually orders at our ramen place at home, so she didn't love the broth- but that's not a knock on this place- just a picky kid. Can not wait to return!!! read more

For being one of the only Bao places in Victoria, they have their shit ON LOCK. Easily the best Bao I have had in a long time and they beat out any place in Vancouver by a long shot. The place is great in price and has a very small kitchen feel to it, I enjoy being able to watch my food get prepared. I will be returning here soon as it has been some time since I have had me some good ass bao. read more

Awesome asian fusion place. Bao is great. They are little bite size of happiness, my personal favorite is the Taiwanese classic one. It reminds me of home, it's different than the traditional Taiwanese ones because the traditional ones has lots of fat in it. This one tastes more like bacon, which adds a nice little twist to it and they tastes awesome! I can from Chicago where the Chinatown are not Taiwanese style. Glad I stopped by to give this place a try. Will come back again next time I am around! read more

Went here while visiting Victoria based upon the ratings and the fact that it was walking distance from my hotel. Had a ramen dish as well as three different bao buns. All the food was good. Surprised that this Asian fusion place didn't have any Asian cooks or staff, but the food was tasty and authentic. I'd give it a solid 3.5 Stars. Was a bit surprised that food has to be ordered at the counter, but it was delivered to the table when served. Would go back again if I'm in Victoria again in the future. read more

10/10 I am definitely coming back. I havent tried anywhere new to eat in a long time, been in a rut, and a friend treated me out to a dinner here since she'd been wanting to try it. She had a vermicelli dish, I had pork belly ramen, they were both really generous portions high quality food for a reasonable price. Friendly, down to earth casual environment, interesting off-beat music. I'm already excited to go back again sometime read more

First, you should know I'm hard to please. Five star ratings with me are rare. Couldn't recommend this place more. The food was so delicious. Tried all the Boa and every one nailed it. The Tonkatsu killed it with copious ginger. The Tan Man Men ramen means I'm going back. Everything is uber fresh. Staff was friendly and helpful. One table outside but we got it and loved it. The atmosphere is great, it's exactly the sort of "local" feel-- not too rushed or tourist-y feeling. It has a similar feeling to Tacofino, which is great! Lively, but a tight squeeze. I had the vegetarian ramen with an egg, and although the broth had an awesome flavor and the noodles were delicious, it was SO SALTY! I would have liked some more veggies in the ramen too, maybe some greens? read more

Large parties beware!! Arrived to eat here after seeing the good reviews on Yelp but was turned down due to the large size of our party (15 people) even though the restaurant was pretty much EMPTY! There was only 2 customers in there and they were at the seats by the window. Front service person told us, a party of 15 would take up all their seats... I always thought the point of a restaurant was to be full not empty. Bad customer service. We went to the Pho restaurant next door (Pho Vuong) and they were far more kind and accommodating to large groups. read more

Bao was a great discovery while in Victoria. I ordered one bao and a bowl of ramen. The bao was amazing and I was I would have ordered more than one. The ramen was also good and the portion size was generous. I did find the broth to be a little oily, however. The restaurant is one small size and the day we went there was only one woman taking orders, so ordering took a bit. Even with that, the food came out quickly. I would definitely visit again. read more

Quaint little place. Visiting Victoria and heard good things about this place. Started with the Mala Fried Chicken Skin, wish the balance of the dried spices on top had a bit more salt and a bit less cumin but the fry on it was good wasn't overly greasy for floppy. The traditional Taiwanese style bao is not actually that traditional. Rather than a braised pork belly you get a fried one instead which is not bad, but not what you are looking for in a traditional Taiwanese bao. For my main I went with the Truffle Ramen. Strong smell of truffle but not a strong flavor of truffle. The shitaki mushroom based soup was a bit thin and the noodle was soft generic store bought type. The chashu was good though. Definitely needed the hot oil it came with. Trendy esthetics and ambiance. A bit on the pricier side, especially for the bao (very small) the portions on the Bibimbaps and Ramen are better. Great lighting for photos though. read more

My friends and I stopped off at this place for lunch after hanging out downtown. Its a small Asian fusion place with baos being the main attraction. I was craving bibimbap, so I had that instead. I wasn't a huge fan of it though, there was too much of it and the kimchi made it a little more spicy than I was expecting! My friend that tried the baos really enjoyed them though (wish I asked her to try one!), and my other friend said that the ramen he had was delicious. You have to order and pay at the register and they will bring your food to your table. The staff were nice and asked us if we enjoyed our food which I quite appreciated given its a very casual type of place to go. The interior was quite small, but its well kept. The outside of it looks a little shady in my opinion but my mind changed as soon as we entered the place. Prices for the baos are a little expensive, but the prices for everything else aren't too bad. Overall, decent place to go. I probably won't go out of my way to come back here because I like other Asian restaraunts a lot better, but if my friends wanted to come here again I wouldn't be opposed. read more

The Bao were incredible, so good we had two of each. Next time will have to try the Ramen. I hear they are killer as well!

Looked wonderful from the reviews. Unfortunately when trying to order the lady at the counter seemed to decided to do everything except server me. She cleaned bowls, left the counter multiple times to do other things and continuously turned her back to me while I waited to order. I did not end up ordering and left without even getting acknowledged. Interestingly enough there were multiple people that were served promptly before me. Maybe she didn't like the way I looked ... Anyways, we found a lovely beef noodle place a few steps away. They were quite nice and the food was wonderful. read more

Three and a half star. It was satisfy for most people's Bao and Asian food cravings. The Chinese Bao was my favorite from the 4 that I tasted. I got tricked by "curry" noodle dish by not reading the description well and not looking at photos. Turns out, it's more of a western take on Singapore noodle dish. We had a ramen noodle dish as well and it was fine. Not a place I would care to return to and I wouldn't say close to being authentic. I guess, if you're craving Asian and you don't see the other Asian places down the block, this will do. read more
