Tried the other location in Victoria last weekend and loved it so much I decided to try this one as well! Sushi was delicious again, we both really enjoyed it! Our favourites were again the Japa Roll and the Zero Roll! This time we added the assorted tempura bowl which was great! Service was good the staff were very nice! Good food, fresh seafood, lots of options! Only complaint was that the water tasted a little fishy. It was pretty busy when we went, which was a weekend night. However we were able to be seated at the bar and it was great nonetheless. Service was excellent, the bartender who also took our order was super nice and gave great recommendations. She even gave us secondary suggestions for food that was out for the day. Inside was pretty lively, good interior and clean. Overall, not too pricy for good quality sushi and seafood. The portions for each roll/ nigiri/ sashimi piece was very reasonable as well. Loved it! A good sushi spot in Victoria! Definitely recommend. read more

Popped by for a quick lunch. They offer a lunch special menu which includes a salad, side dishes and your choice of set entree. Got the chirashi don set. When I got in, I got seated right away despite it being lunch time. But noticed that the servers decreased their frequency of coming to my corner of the restaurant as time went by so it took a while to get anyone at the end of the meal when it came time to pay since the restaurant is so big and the servers were mainly hanging out at the bar at the end. Food was alright. The chirashi don also included a pile of kelp noodles that were not seasoned. The eating experience would have been better without it. Overall, although it might look small, the special was sufficient for lunch. read more

The best thing I ate was the hamachi carpaccio. A beautiful plate with very tender, fresh fish that tasted as good as it looked. I wish I could say the same for the sushi, which looked and tasted only ok. We tried 2 pressed rolls. The pieces were large and seemed 2/3rds rice or more. Large amounts of rice. We had pressed sushi in Vancouver a couple years ago and it was more 50/50 and a much more delicate, crafted mouthful. The Midnight Tokyo Roll was ok. The cold tempora'd nugget of shrimp on top seemed a separate entity from the rest of the slice of roll. Why not have it in the roll? The scezhuan eggplant was a delightful surprise. Full of exciting flavor all the ingredients complimented each other - except that oddly thick nori. What was that doing on the plate? One of us tried to use it to wrap and eat some of the eggplant and made a huge mess. We enjoyed the crispy soft shell crab, and the kitchen was willing to make a 4th piece (and of course charge us for it) so we could each have a piece for ourselves. Loved the sauces it came with - very complimentary. They have nothing in the dessert arena which is too bad. After all those flavors we would have liked some ice cream or sorbet. Or mochi. Or .... a little something to end the meal would be nice. We wish our server had been more pleasant and helpful when we arrived and while we were ordering. read more

Walked into Nubo Kitchen in the way back to the hotel, as we had a memorable night at the restaurant of the same name further up the street. The craft drinks were created excellently as we expect of Victoria's caliber. The food was without peer. While the soft shell crab was called a "salad," the greens were more of deco compliment, which we preferred. The server, host, and bartender all shared in responsibilities and we enjoyed their friendly demeanor. read more

It was relatively quiet since it was a weekday lunch. Very good service, balanced between seeing how you're doing and leaving you alone to eat. Food was very good overall. Pretty good spot for Japanese cuisine. I needed some sushi during my trip to Victoria, and ended up finding this spot on Yelp which seemed to be pretty popular and well received. We arrived on a Saturday night without a reservation, and we were lucky to be able to get seated at the bar. The bartender/waitress was super friendly all night and very helpful as well. We ordered the salmon lover roll, toro oishi sushi, tempura udon, and unagi nigiri. The salmon lover roll was good - it had a good portion of salmon, and the spicy mayo on top added a nice touch. I thought the roll was supposed to be torched, but they didn't do that for me - not sure if they missed it but I probably would have preferred it torched. The toro was great - melt in your mouth tender, though I did feel the rice to fish ratio leaned more too much rice. Nonetheless, the food overall was great, fresh, and satisfying. Overall, we had a nice experience here and for the price and portions I would say this is a great spot to visit. The ambiance is also really nice for a special occasion or just a nicer evening. Initially walking in, we weren't sure if we were at the right place. There's actually 2 locations, but we were glad we walked into this one. This seems like a more casual location. We came early and didn't have any trouble getting a table. This sushi is fantastic. The torched rolls are actually torched table side which is pretty neat. Tonight I delighted in my choices of the Manguro Trio sashimi - bluefin upgrade, their lucky monkey spicy tuna stuffed deep fried Avacado and the lucky strike seared tuna roll. I love Japanese cuisine. In my travels and as a guest of my Tokyo based hosts I've enjoyed the best sushi Tokyo and Osaka has to offer. And here I am in my home town, all up in my feels, sitting at the bar transported to a place I know and love. Everything I've tried at Nubo's two locations has been delightful. The service and the atmosphere are top notch. The menu is fresh and innovative with nods to traditional dishes and flavors that make Japanese food such a treat. read more

This was our one stop on our list to go for some sushi in Canada. We waited until 5pm to be first to come in and we were treated with excellent service. We got to sit outside and catch what was left of the sun as it dipped behind a building. We kept the umbrella up after just witnessing a seagull dive bomb onto some dudes at the stop light. It was super chill and I appreciated the quality hip hop music you just don't hear anymore these days. *Bonus points for EPMD. The sushi itself was delicious. 3 Oshizushi rolls, first time having tenderloin sushi which was seared. Calamari and some ramen. All got 2 thumbs up from the family. Great drinks too! Think my wife's eyes were opened to sake as it was the first time she tried it and loved it. Only negatives were the avocado rolls were packed with way too much avocado. The proportions made it overwhelming to eat all in one bite. Also.. the wasabi seemed pretty weak. I don't know if it's just a Canadian thing or what but it has been very difficult to find anything spicy at restaurants. But we keep trying! We will be back someday. read more

Lunch sets are a fantastic deal with two rotating okazu and salad, and it's always delicious. We've had this many, many times and never had a dud. The teriyaki chicken bowl is great, comes with rice, salad, mixed vegetables like potato, carrot, broccoli and the sauce is great. Staff are always friendly. It's a cozy place, nice to sit outside in the summer when the patio is available. Kind of small inside but it definitely doesn't feel cramped. Yuzu Passion Spritz is 10/10. read more

Came here while visiting Victoria BC. Mind you, we are a big group with 5 kids and everyone with different taste buds. But this place delivered. The servers were very nice and accommodating. Kids enjoyed gyoza and ramen noodles with plain broth. That's not on the menu but they were able to adjust to our request. Bulgogi quesadilla was delicious, sushi was amazing! The staff tonight was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We started with plum sake, so flavorful even though I don't like sweet drinks, this was good. I love a good miso and this was good miso, sweet in that savory way, with enough scallions, 2 kinds of tofu to make it comforting. Takoyaki was typical. The gyoza was spot on, thin skin, tender meat and since I am allergic to sesame, it was served with a sauce like Vietnamese nuoc cham (so good). The Salmon L. Jackson roll was a great combination of items proportionally combined to make the sum great. I only ordered it because I wanted something torched at the table, but the taste was so good, I would definitely order this again. Nigiri: Ama Ebi - always good, how can you go wrong with this; Yellow Tail & Sockeye Salmon - nice portion of fish and rice Finally, assorted prawns and veggie tempura - good, not great. Went here two nights in a row on a recent trip to Victoria with my wife. Great sushi, great service, great location!

We were pretty excited to check out Nubo, a modern restaurant offering some beautiful dishes and drinks--their platters on the website are gorgeous so we felt compelled to check it out. We ordered the Volcano Roll, and their Saba and Toro Oshi. I was definitely looking forward to the toro the most, but unfortunately both of the oshi were disappointing due to the rice to fish ratio. With most of it being rice, it was hard to taste the flavours of the fish. That being said, at least it was very filling. They did appreciate the feedback, so points to them for that. Hopefully they improve and we'll check it out then. read more

Yesterday June 22 , 2021 after having been refused service in another eatery (for daring to try lunch as a single customer, I am sure!), I wandered out of Chinatown towards the harbour and saw an unfamiliar name...NUBO bar and kitchen... Nice clean place with large patio sheltered from wind and blazing sun... ! A friendly young hostess sat me in a prime spot and offered a very appetizing list of dishes.. I had a special lunch plate that offered taste, color, presentation and value for sure..! With a couple of local Vancouver Island breweries suds it made for a very enjoyable meal. The entire staff was attentive...not pushy...efficient and had their patrons looking , like me, very satisfied..! I will be back... read more

We were refused service tonight as a celiac family as the chef was not confident in being able to clean a knife and prep area to make sashimi and a few basic rolls for us tonight. Fair enough - a chef without confidence in the bare minimum isn't someone I want making food for me. Ill make this short sweet... Save your money, there are far better sushi restaurants in Victoria. I was the only person in the restaurant the entire time.... This place is overpriced, service is cruddy and food just ok. Went there when they opened for dinner, was seated outside and promptly waited for anyone to come and say or ask if I needed a beverage. After 10 minutes a waiter came (no hello, no nothing at all) and asked if I was ready to order, I told him nicely I would love a beverage first and foremost. Ordered gyozas which were very chewy the folded bits were dried out (like they had been made days prior and not covered in the fridge), dynamite roll (which was minimal with the fillings, tasteless and the smallest dynamite roll I've ever had), Inari which was decent because it such basic sushi, 2 pieces of bluefin tuna and Gomae salad (which was delicious and the only reason I'm giving this review a 2). After sitting alone with employ dishes for over 10 minutes I grabbed my purse and went James (reminder I was the only one in the restaurant) and asked for my bill. (I found him chatting to the other waitress) I voiced my displeasure over the service and food and he could care less. Disappointing that my server would rather flirt with his coworkers then serve customers like he is supposed to do. I understand there's always a down time in restaurants but it should never be like this. It's my 3rd and last visit here, there are so many better sushi places (Gozen is my fave) here in dwtn.
