A nice selection of options! Definitely enjoyed the tofu teppan yaki . They were pretty busy but they were nice. It felt clean in there as a plus. Would return!

The best thing I ate was the hamachi carpaccio. A beautiful plate with very tender, fresh fish that tasted as good as it looked. I wish I could say the same for the sushi, which looked and tasted only ok. We tried 2 pressed rolls. The pieces were large and seemed 2/3rds rice or more. Large amounts of rice. We had pressed sushi in Vancouver a couple years ago and it was more 50/50 and a much more delicate, crafted mouthful. The Midnight Tokyo Roll was ok. The cold tempora'd nugget of shrimp on top seemed a separate entity from the rest of the slice of roll. Why not have it in the roll? The scezhuan eggplant was a delightful surprise. Full of exciting flavor all the ingredients complimented each other - except that oddly thick nori. What was that doing on the plate? One of us tried to use it to wrap and eat some of the eggplant and made a huge mess. We enjoyed the crispy soft shell crab, and the kitchen was willing to make a 4th piece (and of course charge us for it) so we could each have a piece for ourselves. Loved the sauces it came with - very complimentary. They have nothing in the dessert arena which is too bad. After all those flavors we would have liked some ice cream or sorbet. Or mochi. Or .... a little something to end the meal would be nice. We wish our server had been more pleasant and helpful when we arrived and while we were ordering.

This place was delicious!! It helped my craving for sushi. Different flavors and variety of choices of rolls. We got 3 rolls/sushi and warm sake. The zero roll was our favorite!

For $24 each these bento are great! They come with a side salad, prawn veggie tempura, miso soup and okonomiyaki. Service was excellent. Our servers were super nice and friendly and the place wasn't too noisy or pretentious. I come to this restaurant each time I visit Victoria. It was my kids first time and they loved it!

Real crab maki and soft shelled crab "salad" Both were excellent and deserve to be reordered.

Walked into Nubo Kitchen in the way back to the hotel, as we had a memorable night at the restaurant of the same name further up the street. The craft drinks were created excellently as we expect of Victoria's caliber. The food was without peer. While the soft shell crab was called a "salad," the greens were more of deco compliment, which we preferred. The server, host, and bartender all shared in responsibilities and we enjoyed their friendly demeanor.

Pretty good spot for Japanese cuisine. I needed some sushi during my trip to Victoria, and ended up finding this spot on Yelp which seemed to be pretty popular and well received. We arrived on a Saturday night without a reservation, and we were lucky to be able to get seated at the bar. The bartender/waitress was super friendly all night and very helpful as well. We ordered the salmon lover roll, toro oishi sushi, tempura udon, and unagi nigiri. The salmon lover roll was good - it had a good portion of salmon, and the spicy mayo on top added a nice touch. I thought the roll was supposed to be torched, but they didn't do that for me - not sure if they missed it but I probably would have preferred it torched. The toro was great - melt in your mouth tender, though I did feel the rice to fish ratio leaned more too much rice. Nonetheless, the food overall was great, fresh, and satisfying. Overall, we had a nice experience here and for the price and portions I would say this is a great spot to visit. The ambiance is also really nice for a special occasion or just a nicer evening. A worthy try in Victoria!

This is our 2nd favorite sushi spot we've ever been to. The Miso soup had so much flavor as did the broccolini and gyoza. The tempura plate was a meal in and of itself and was crispy.

Black Dragon, Real Crab, Toro Oshi, Fisherman's roll

Initially walking in, we weren't sure if we were at the right place. There's actually 2 locations, but we were glad we walked into this one. This seems like a more casual location. We came early and didn't have any trouble getting a table. This sushi is fantastic. The torched rolls are actually torched table side which is pretty neat. Our favorites were the Soft Shelled Crab tapa, Salmon Lover torched roll, Toro Oshi, Black Dragon roll, Real Crab roll, and the Fisherman's roll.

This was our one stop on our list to go for some sushi in Canada. We waited until 5pm to be first to come in and we were treated with excellent service. We got to sit outside and catch what was left of the sun as it dipped behind a building. We kept the umbrella up after just witnessing a seagull dive bomb onto some dudes at the stop light. It was super chill and I appreciated the quality hip hop music you just don't hear anymore these days. *Bonus points for EPMD. The sushi itself was delicious. 3 Oshizushi rolls, first time having tenderloin sushi which was seared. Calamari and some ramen. All got 2 thumbs up from the family. Great drinks too! Think my wife's eyes were opened to sake as it was the first time she tried it and loved it. Only negatives were the avocado rolls were packed with way too much avocado. The proportions made it overwhelming to eat all in one bite. Also.. the wasabi seemed pretty weak. I don't know if it's just a Canadian thing or what but it has been very difficult to find anything spicy at restaurants. But we keep trying! We will be back someday.

Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, Yam Rolls, Cali & Dyna Lunch Set

Lunch sets are a fantastic deal with two rotating okazu and salad, and it's always delicious. We've had this many, many times and never had a dud. The teriyaki chicken bowl is great, comes with rice, salad, mixed vegetables like potato, carrot, broccoli and the sauce is great. Staff are always friendly. It's a cozy place, nice to sit outside in the summer when the patio is available. Kind of small inside but it definitely doesn't feel cramped. Yuzu Passion Spritz is 10/10.

Incredible service! Exceptional lunch menu! Surprisingly family friendly. Definitely a date night must! My very midwestern kids are hesitantly becoming adventurous eaters and they couldn't get enough of the food. There was something for everyone. If you're wondering where you should eat while visiting Victoria add this gem to the top of your list!

The food, ambience and service was excellent. Everything we ordered was delicious. I loved the soft shell crab and the agedashi tofu. All the sushis were excellent . Even though we just walked in, I think better to reserve and come, coz it got packed very quickly .

Restrooms are located upstairs, and there are no elevators, so it is not wheelchair accessible. Yelp waitlist and Yelp Reservations are available on the app, so I made a reservation and the host greeted and seated us as soon as we entered. The vibe is fun, they have a great playlist playing in the background, and a big drink menu. The food menu is pretty big, and they specialize in Korean style roasted chicken. We ordered: * Rose Pasta Appetizer - could've been an entree. It was so good and my favorite dish of everything we ordered. The sauce was so good, we saved the leftover sauce on the plate to dip our roasted chicken. 5/5 * Pan Fried Chicken Noodle - basically yakisoba noodles. Decent but a bit bland. 3/5 * Butter Curry Roasted Chicken - came with Korean rice cakes on top. 4/5. Chicken was tender and I loved that it was boneless. * Spicy Chili Roasted Chicken - we originally wanted the Volcano flavor, but the server warned us that it was really spicy, and suggested the spicy chili instead. We enjoyed the flavor of this one more than the curry one. So good! 5/5 Our server was super nice, and food came out quick! I highly recommend stopping by if you're craving some good chicken!!

Overall, I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a casual dining place.

A big thank you to for helping us through picking one price fixe January exploration of your local restaurants and filling it with other ala carte additions. As we often do we ordered far too much food, wanting to explore everything off a menu that is far reaching. Not sure if our additions worked with the price fixe menu, but we sure enjoyed checking everything out. The interior is interesting with the addition of structural steel in the space to keep this heritage building (I think) standing tall for a few generations. We sure hope it's still here for a long while and will most likely come again the next time we are in Victoria. That is saying a lot as there are a wide range of restaurants in the neighbourhood, but you do want to check the Block out!
