While Visiting from Powell river we went to check out Ling Hung that we frequented for BBQ pork bao when we lived here many years ago. Ling Hung is now Bao and we were not disappointed at alll. Very neatly updated and clean with a fun hipster vibe . Delicious decently priced food and courteous service. I had the pork belly Raman while my hubby had the mei fun. We were both stuffed. Excellent presentation. Would love to try the BBQ pork buns if we come again when in the city read more

Bao - Pork belly ramen worth every bite! - Korean Near Me - Victoria, British Columbia

We ordered four bao buns - mushroom (spicy and tasty with fried enokis atop Mmm), traditional Taiwanese (typical fatty deliciousness), tonkatsu chicken (my fav.. Pickled ginger a little overpowering but Mmm), and Chinese BBQ pork with pickled onions (good but wouldn't order again). At $4.50 each, I was kind of shocked... but they were tasty. Not for the budget conscious. My bf ordered bibimbap with Korean fried chicken - - delicious, crispy chicken. Egg was perfectly cooked... Was really tasty w extra sauce. Will be back to try the ramen, other bao buns and another bibimbap. read more

Awesome little Asian fusion restaurant. The baos are on the small side, but they're flavourful and the ingredients work well together. Not a 5-star because it's a bit pricey. But then again it's not in Vancouver, so maybe I'm being a little too critical. read more

Great food! We got various Baos and a ramen. They were delicious. The pork bellys taste and texture was amazing. Highly recommend! read more

Ordered a black bean bao and the gin gin cocktail. Felt like the bao could have used some sauce as it was a bit dry. The gin gin cocktail was very refreshing. My friend enjoyed her meat boa but after seeing people getting big delicious bowls of ramen I think we missed out. The ramen looked amazing! read more

Soooooooooo.... amazing! We are only in Victoria for three days and we came here twice. Twice. We had the noodles the first day and then came back for the Bao. The pork meatball was my fav however the wifey loved the buttermilk chicken. The kids loved the Nutella banana and the Chinese bbq. Service was amazing and the Hoyne IPA beer was perfect! Could it possibly get better? We did not have the signature gin/ginger cocktail but I left that as an excuse to come back. Sa'weet! read more

Tourist from Chicago, came in for lunch after a stroll from Butchart Gardens.. The food was awesome, very tasty Bao's and good selection of Japanese food choices. Friendly staff :) read more

By accident on my way to Chinatown I found Bao. I had pork belly with fried eggs OMG!!! I would eat this dish all day every day. I'm definitely going back. Loved it ! read more

The food was good, price is quite reasonable (especially when you compared it with other "asian fusion" food places in Victoria). Would recommend to friends in town. Read some of these negative reviews. I think there needs to be some clarification and set up fair expectations for this restaurant. Let's be clear, this is NOT an authentic "asian" restaurant. You don't walk in here and expect what you get here is what they serve in any of the East Asian countries. The fact that they have all these food items from various East Asian countries and named the restaurant "buns" in Mandarin should tell you that much, this IS Victoria. read more

Jazz music, friendly service, order at the counter and receive the best bao and ramen ever! The flavours were spot on amazing. Noodles were perfect. So happy! read more

Bao - Korean Near Me - Victoria, British Columbia

Taste really good, like in Richmond. We ordered the Ramen and three piece of Bao. The owner is not Chinese, but the taste is not " P. F Chang" style. Will definitely come again. read more

I am not an easy 5 star reviewer. I do not submit a large number of reviews. I do find Yelp to be very helpful when I travel so feel compelled to write a review when I find something that is very good (or very bad). I travel a lot (at least in normal times) and look for unique and tasty experiences. This was both and a great experience. The food was excellent. The service was top rate and the COVID protocols were excellent. COVID protocols are quite important to my wife and I, not because we are at risk, but because we do come in contact with people who are. I consider the care shown for these protocols as a sign of respect for one's customers. My wife and I had the 4 Bao for $15. The Taiwanese Classic was excellent as was the Pork Meatball Banh Mi. The Chinese BBQ was good. The Buttermilk Chicken was ok. While they may not seem like a ton of food, the tastes were just excellent and a very good value for me. We also had the Tan Tan Noodles which were fabulous. The spice level was great. The broth was wonderful and the noodles themselves made the dish. We are only here three days and plan to go at least once more (maybe twice) while we are in town. read more

Food rocks. Best bao ever. Always feels understaffed or a bit fast foodish because of counter service. Still is a must try.

Great Asian fusion. Exciting flavors to entice anyone interested in something a little bit new and different while still retaining great aspects of food culture. read more

This place had HORRIBLE service! This past weekend we checked out the website and saw that the closed at 9 PM. We got there at 8:32 and the blonde host at the door greeted us with, "Oh, sorry, we're closing." Now, let me paint a picture of what we saw. The chairs in the entire restaurant were upside down on top of the tables. There were SEVERAL customers still eating while staff swept and cleaned around them!!!!! We graciously explained that we had just spent money on a cab to enjoy some of their ramen soup (which I'm sorry, this is NOT a high maintenance request where it's going to take 45 minutes to prepare or for us to eat! She was rude despite that we had paid a cab to get there, the joint stated it closed at 9 PM and she was just like, "whatever!" We are from the states and this was our 3rd time coming to the beautiful Victoria! Canadians are amazing friendly folks and always go out of their way to be great neighbors to Americans that come to visit! Stay away from this place they obviously don't care about customer service! read more

Went for a snack after lots of walking on a cold day, kids with us, baos were on the small side, but delicious. Had the pork belly , mushroom, fried chicken and pork bbq. One kid had ramen with pork belly, he was over the moon. The other had the glass noodles with curry, felt it was a bit to spicy, this kid can handle spice. Small but worth a visit, friendly staff, clean, quick place. I'd go back again and recommend it! read more

Bao exceeded our expectations for an asian fusion eatery! We had mei fan and pork belly & egg bibimbap... it's delicious, so much flavor and texture going on in both dishes! Portrayed an asian dish very well! Ambience and service were perfect too, 2 very happy customers here! read more

We had the vegetarian ramen and pork belly ramen. I liked the pork belly and the mushrooms that came with it that had a very nice citrus flavour. The vegetarian ramen was not that great, particularly the friend tofu which was hard and greasy. Noodles not authentic. The real issue was the service - which I would classify as truly terrible. In this restaurant you order at the counter and pay in advance - including tip! There is no sign stating this and the staff not only did not greet us, they let us stand around waiting with no acknowledgement not knowing what to do. In addition, when we went up to the counter to ask the lady with the blond hair walked away from us twice to do random things. Came across as rude. I won't be back. read more

These little Bao Buns are deceptively delicious. Way better than the Noodle Box that was at this location before.

The food here was awesome. We came with a big group including many kids and it was a hit across the board. My fave was the black bean cake bun. Soups and wings were also a hit. Worth the walk from the cruise shuttle stop! read more

I tried Taiwanese classic bao...... maybe the review brought me high expectation but the bao was little bit disappointing.

Just completely excellent. I had the crispy chicken Bao which was devastating, and then a bowl of ramen that was similarly outstanding. This is exactly the sort of place I was hoping to find in Victoria and it did not disappoint. read more

The baos are overpriced and portion of meat is very small and underwhelming. I tried their ramen also and it is not close to being authentic, overpriced as well. The only good menu item is their Korean style wings. read more

Great food, brings back memories from my childhood in Taiwan. Tried the 3 different Baos and all well delicious! Highly recommended next time you pop by Chinatown. read more

Went to Bao tonight with my wife. Was a funky joint with a great order and pay at the beginning system, which I love. We had 4 bao and they were really tasty. Sweet Chinese pork with pickled cucumber was great, the bao bun itself was fluffy, light and really nice. My wife had the pork belly ramen and I had the chicken karage ramen. It was alright, I must say though, broth needed to be hotter and it needed a hit of flavour. It was tasty, but didn't wow me. Overall bill was more than I felt it was worth but not by too much. I will go again and see what else they have going on. read more

I love the baos, the best in my opinion is the tonkatsu chicken with the pickled ginger on top. So friggin good. The service is pretty quick and there's usually seating available. Definitely becoming one of my favourite places in town. read more

I had the Mei Fun Noodle. It was complex, earthy and full of flavour. A very hearty bowl indeed. Definitely would love to have that again, but next time it's the Buns! Great service and time to table. Yum! read more

Been to Bao a number of times since moving to Victoria and we have yet to find something we don't love on the menu. The bibimbaps are so tasty they keep us going for more, despite the sometimes frosty service. read more

So here goes my 1st review! Grabbed a moment at Bao this past weekend and I have to say it was stellar. An order - or two - of awsome asian wings, and 3 diffeeent bao buns - what could be better! I usually don't like asian fusion type restaurants but Bao works for me. read more

Stopped in Bao for their bao bun- we had the classic Chinese bbq, chicken tonkatsu, and pork belly. Amazing. The ambience, the service, and the quality and presentation of the food. Would have gone back today to sample more of the menu but they are closed Sundays! read more

My whole life I've been Ramen around the world, but Ive never found such souper food as I had this evening. I bao down to the excellence of these chefs. read more

Good bao buns. Probably the best in town. Unfortunately the ramen is just OK and the 'spicy chicken katsu curry' is really off the mark. Far too spicy, weirdly watery and chicken katsu that was not fresh at all. Tasted like it had been cooked the day before and just heated up. Have they had proper katsu curry before? I'd go for bao again but that's probably it. read more

Thoughtful update to traditional dishes! A hit out of the park! Great customer service, casual dining, and good beer too!

Absolutely loved this place. Even my very picky boyfriend enjoyed their food! We tried the pork belly ramen which was phenomenal. The Korean wings were great as well (those were his favorite), the fried chicken bibimbap was tasty- I made the mistake of eating that last, it got cold and the egg was all stiff, but the flavor was still there! This was my first time trying bao and I loved it, I got the Taiwanese Classic. And for a drink the sake guava was amazing, just not quite strong enough. read more

Food was pretty decent and flavourful. I found it fairly pricey for what you get. We ordered 6 buns and a don between the three of us (as suggested by the employee) and it was not enough for dinner Not authentic or cheap by any means. But it tasted good! read more

Absolutely thrilled that the old WokBox, which was a reliable stand by on a foggy, cold Victoria evening, has managed to retain all the comfort but now has some truly incredible and interesting food on the menu. So far I have had only a bao ( viet stuffed bread) and the TanTan noodles, but it was as culinary treat that took me by surprise. A very carefully made and thoughtful broth, fantastic noodles. Great service and still the same ambience, but now with better music. Victoria is starving for good places to eat, I can list the truly exceptional places on one hand. This is a fantastic turn of events, and I plan to eat here often. read more
