Oh, my goodness why doesn't this doctor have more reviews?!?!?! He's a great doctor!!! Dr. Banser is so thorough and patient. Let me tell you if you want to get all that you can out of your vision insurance, he will make sure that you do. He runs all of the tests possible for your eyes, even tests that other doctors don't. How do I know this, because I have taken my parents to several different doctors and see how they work and what they do and don't offer, and this man runs tests that the others don't. Also, English is my parents second language and Dr. Banser couldn't have been nicer and more patient with my parents. I am comfortable with them going to his appointments without me. I was so impressed with this doctor that when it was my time to see an eye doctor, I asked my doctor to refer me to him. Don't miss out people!!! P.S. His facility has parking, is clean, and his staff is just as great as him. I'm telling you....stop looking and go see him. Let me add my own words of praise to all that's on the internet about Dr Banser. As others have said, he is an outstanding optometrist and a very kind and thoughtful person. If you live in the neighborhood of his office at Surf and Sheridan, I strongly recommend going to him for eye exams. Not only is the eye exam very thorough, but Dr Banser goes way back with the group of ophthalmologists and retinal specialists who practice at St Joe's (right across the street). This is very reassuring and convenient in instances where the eye exam turns up problems of deeper concern. I haven't bought glasses from Dr Banser's shop since it became "MyEyeDr" instead of Lincoln Park Eyes. The transition to being part of a chain was initially rocky, but, when I was there recently, the office again had its customary calm and welcoming feel. read more

So happy I took my daughter to see Dr. Banser. My daughter has a very significant astigmatism and we didn't think she would be able to get contacts but she really wanted them for high school. We went to Dr. Banser and he fitted her for contact lenses without hesitation. He did an amazing job. She was able to see with them 20/20 on the first try. Dr. Banner is the best optometrist I have ever experienced. He is exceptionally knowledgeable, patient, and personable. I've had very poor eyesight since childhood and am now facing more vision complications as I reach middle age. I went to see Dr. Banser for the first time, based on his past yelp reviews. I only needed a pair of glasses for occasional driving and for going to see movies in theatres (when those theatre lights are turned off for the movie to begin, my myopia kicks in). He is a hoot! I haven't had such a fun, engaging eye examination in a long time, if ever. He's extremely friendly, well-read, and quick in getting the exam done. If you ever want to nerd out with a fellow sci-fi fan, Dr. Banser is the guy to see. Not only did we talk about available corrective eye technologies in laymen's terms, but we probably spent a good 10-20 minutes talking about Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan lol (Remember the scene in the movie when Captain Kirk learns he needs reading glasses?). His staff are friendly and helpful and appear to act very professionally. His office space looks like a boutique or a high-end jewelry store: everything looks clean, shiny, well-lit. I have seen Dr. Banser twice over the past few years. I find that his examination is very thorough. I first went there because I was referred by a local optician (unrelated to this office) who thought very highly of Dr. Banser. I agree. Dr. Banser took the time to answer my questions and I didn't feel rushed at all. I felt that his goal was to get my prescription right, not to sell me a pair of glasses and contacts. I stopped going to Fred because of the offensively patronizing mannerisms of some of his staff.

So very disappointing. I have good eye insurance, but yet walked out with over a $400.00 tab because I didn't follow my "gut" on what I needed. Ummmm simple reading glasses- that was it. The Dr will talk you into progressive lenses, which I learned is quite costly, and if it doesn't work, you do not get a refund. They automatically add something called varilux coating as well as anti-reflective coating. Neither is necessary, but you get snookered. It's their way of making money- so BE AWARE. I am miserable that I believed in this place, and won't come back again. Sure they are fixing my glasses to be basic reading glasses, which will take even more time, but I truly should've believed in myself instead of believing in the Dr. Just Don't do it. Dr does NOT know best. My basic readers from Target will be sufficient enough and save me loads of cash. read more

I visited Dr Banser because my former OD was now out of network and I wanted to take advantage of my insurance savings. The situation turned out to be such a great advantage. Dr Banser and his office was not only convenient to where I live and was in my insurance network but his expertise and affable personality was above and beyond my expectations. His office staff was extremely helpful in telling my exactly what my costs would be and in ordering my daily contact lenses. Dr Banser's exam was a delight with his clear and thorough explanation of what was happening with my eyes. He even helped my vision immediately by telling me I was wearing my different strength daily contacts in the wrong eyes for years. LOL. Dr. Banser is patient and kind: I trust him. I saw him in January for an initial contact fitting. He spent a lot of time to ensure that my new prescription was perfect. I returned to him more recently because I had blurred long-distance vision after an eye procedure. He went out of his way to determine the problem and solve it by prescribing a different type of contact lens. The fee was very reasonable. read more

Dr. Banser is an outstanding doctor. I have seen him several times. I have had a lot of trouble trying to find the right contact lenses to wear because I am trying to correct for near and far sightedness. He worked with me diligently trying on several different pairs to find the ones that were right for me. With a single fee you can come back to the store for up to two additional fittings if the lenses don't work out for you. Dr. Banser is the best optometrist my husband and I have found. He is thorough, and takes the time to ask and answer questions. He diagnosed a vision issue my husband was having that other optometrists misdianosed, and prescribed the corrective lenses to take care of it.
