There is now a second Bahnmigos in Brooklyn! In what I am assuming will eventually end up being 3 Banhmigos- an obvious and much deserved tribute to John Landis; whom, as we all know, is a HUGE star in Vietnam, as well as fairly acclaimed here in the states. This spot is just as good as its predecessor. The Grilled Pork is the same as the one in Park Slope (that is to say, good). Get it spicy- they know the perfect mix, to not make your throat close up. Plus there's always Sriracha if you need more. The beef short ribs Bahn was really good too- I love the hint of lemongrass. They have a sign that says "Tapas coming soon" but with so much other stuff, including appetizers, I don't think anyone's holding their breath (even though, most probably should- those pickled veggies are ripe!). I would like to make an addendum to the review below mine: this is some of the best banh mi and pho in Brooklyn. Maybe Manhattan too. I have been to both locations. Quality is consistently amazing. Well spiced meat. Big portions. Lots of veggies, herbs, spices and meat in the sandwich (most places put so little). Bread is fresh. I figured today to try the pho. OMG. So well spiced. Thick and delicious. Yum. I only had the broth because it was so hot out that I really just wanted the sandwich and bubble tea but I will come back for it. So that leaves me to their bubble tea. How often do you see taro tea around? It is so good. And purple. The matcha is also great. Vietnamese coffee with boba is surprisingly amazing too! I ordered the Shrimp Rolls with Vermicelli and the Short Rib Salad. The Shrimp rolls were good and tasted fresh. The peanut sauce that accompanied it wasn't watered down and tasted authentic. Both the grilled chicken and the tofu "chicken" proteins had great flavor, but I checked off spicy for both and there was nothing but the mayo, protein, pickled veg, and cilantro. Banhmigos in Park Slope is one of my favorite banh mi spots, so when I saw they opened a second location, I knew I was going to stop in at some point. It's much bigger than the original, and pretty modern chic. They have those big light bulb letters on the wall spelling out their name, have a ton of seating, and they sell beer. I did the traditional banh mi, and it's damn fine at this location too (though I give the edge to the original). At $7.50, it's a ton of food. You can also get them as two tacos instead. Love their food but their customer service is terrible! They got my order wrong and delivered Banh Mi instead of Pho. First off this is a strange mix of cuisines I couldn't really imagine fusing smoothly. Even if you just want to pick something up and eat it at home, the preparation takes forever. I would say Banhmigos is your typical Viet spot. I quite enjoyed the bubble tea I had - so much that I went back for seconds lol. I got a tofu pho (attention VEGANS, all pho comes with beef broth... even the veggie options) which was tasty. I needed a quick fix before my walk home and this meal did the job. I did not want to give this new location a bad review. I tried it 4 times before being forced to write this and warn others of the food poisoning I got that lasted 5 days. The night I got the food poisoning I ate the grilled chicken soup and summer rolls. Lo and behold I was absolutely sick less then 6 hours later. That same meal they also forgot to pack the sprouts and fresh herbs. The first 3 times I ordered food from them they delivered to me. I gave a huge tip to the delivery guy all 3x. Then the 4th time they told me I was out of range and they will no longer deliver. I think it is going to be hard for them to survive next to such an impressive sushi restaurant as Silver Rice, Silver Rice lives up to the standards of freshness and impeccable customer service. Bread on the banh mi was fresh and crispy but sadly that was the best part of my lunch. The grilled chicken banh mi was ok but lacked flavor, texture and sauce. Summer rolls (shrimp) were inedible. It was just bland lettuce, noodles and shrimp that smelled off. Aren't summer rolls supposed to have parsley mint basil cucumber...something else?! I really don't get the 3 star review for Bahnmigos. I've ordered from this spot more than a handful of times in the past few months, J and I have Bahnmigos on our dinner rotation and it has never disappointed. The food usually comes before the estimated time on Seamless and it's still piping hot. I only get the short rib pho but J gets everything and it's all pretty good, not to mention that one order can feed two people (in my case at least). The summer rolls are delicious and the bubble tea is pretty on point. The 5 star review is in support of my go to for pho in the 'hood and I'm totally a fan! It's like the neighborhood pizza spot that everyone goes to except it's bahn mi and pho which is THAT much harder to come by in Crown Heights. So naysayers, piss off... If you have a favorite pho spot that you swear is amazing but located in bumblefck Elmhurst, Queens or wherever you should continue to trek up there to get your fix. Decor is interesting. Being from Southern California, it's hard to find comparably good Vietnamese food in NYC. I was excited when I saw these spot after recently moving to Crown Heights, but all in all the Chicken Banh Mi that I had was rather lackluster. The bread was okay but the rest of the sandwich didn't really taste like anything. Also it took a surprisingly long amount of time for them to prepare it. I'll probably be back to try the pho sometime later, hope it convinces me to change my review, but for now I will not be going to Banhmigos for their banh mi, that's for sure. read more

I was starving and decided to risk eating the food anyways, it was pretty subpar. This is my second time trying this place and I'm not convinced to try a third. I live for authentic food and their shredded chicken consistently failed every single time i ordered over the past 3 years [for delivery]. - Shredded Chicken banh mi - it wasn't shredded chicken, it was like boiled in salt then cut up into chunks. They drenched it in sri racha even tho i always request no sri racha bcuz i prefer jalapenos for kick, and it makes the bread all soggy. - The sangwidge was soggy because of the chicken and the overload of sriracha. There was no butter spread. I asked for extra toasted bread bcuz their banh mi's are always freaking soggy. -- They get one star for speedy delivery. I think some of these bad reviews are pretty harsh! I've had 4 different kinds of Banh Mi from here (original, veggie chicken, mushroom) and they were all good. I prefer my old spot in the East Village, but this place holds up against other delivery options I've got in Boerum Hill. I will say that one time they forgot to deliver my sandwich all together, and that was a bummer. Especially because they closed before they could fix the problem. They were lacking in the complexity that typically defines a summer roll, but the peanut sauce, mixed with sriracha, partially made up for what I was craving. Super disappointed and a little angry too! I've eaten here twice. Both times I ordered at the counter using the larger menu boards. I'm a vegetarian and asked the counter staff if there was a vegetarian Pho option, there wasn't, so I asked for a suggestion. She suggested the "Veg Chicken Rice Vermicelli". On my second trip here I ordered the same thing, as did my companion. He thought the sauce smelled fishy, and when we double checked, and it did have fish sauce in it. The staff was completely baffled as to why we'd be concerned about this. They said, "But a lot of vegetarians order this dish." Yeah, it's because they don't know that it's not vegetarian! It's very misleading to have "veg" options that aren't actually vegetarian. They said the paper menu stated the sauce has fish in it, so I asked to see the paper menu, but they were out. I'm writing this review hoping that the staff becomes more knowledgeable about vegetarian options, and compassionate to those dining there. I hope that they add this detail to their menu boards, don't suggest this option to vegetarian clients without also noting the fish sauce, and mention any non-vegetarian ingredients to people ordering "veg" options. On the positive side, they did replace my meal. They were nice, but still did not seem to understand what the problem was, which was disappointing to me. I do like their bubble tea though :/ read more
