This is a bit of a late review but a couple of months ago, when I was in Fort Wayne visiting family, my sister and I tried Bahn Mi Barista for lunch. It was very, very busy at 2:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon which I take as a good sign! It makes sense that this place is busy - the prices are low and there is a lot of variety of Vietnamese food on offer. I am an adventurous eater but I am also cheap - a winning combination here! I ordered a Korean BBQ bahn mi while my sister ordered a Korean BBQ bahn mi with spring rolls and a lychee boba tea. The meat was SO GOOD GUYS! So much better than any $7 sandwich had any right to have. There was the perfect amount sauce on the meat. My only suggestion is to include more pickled vegetables on top. Life is always better with an excessive amount of pickled foods. I plan to come back to Bahn Mi Barista next time I am in town. read more

Outstanding Pho joint... We've been here a few have times now, and have been to the family's downtown location... Both are amazing, but the customer service at Banh Mi Barista so much better. The owner is super friendly and makes everyone feel welcomed as soon as they walk-in and always says "goodbye" and "thank you." It's a small place, but nicely setup and very clean. As for the food... Private parking lot with about 4 tables of outdoor seating. Even though it's located on coldwater road the noise from the traffic wasn't that bad. Went inside to order and since I hadn't been there before I asked them what Bahn mi was the best they suggested the double pork one. I opted for that one and make it spicy without the carrots. I also ordered with it the summer rolls which should have had shrimp and pork. We sat down and they delivered the food to our table very quickly along with siracha sauce and houisen sauce. Upon looking at my sandwich and comparing it to my friends sandwich I noticed that hers was stuffed with ingredients I did have, we ordered the same thing, including the jalapeños to make it spicy. So I took it back in and the persons who prepared it admitted she didn't add anything because it said no carrots she thought it meant no veggies just meat. After they fixed it and I aWhen I looked at it more closely and I ate a few bites I noticed it was only one pork on it. I took it back again and they said they forgot the second pork. So they gave it to me on the side. So far not impressed. After I finally got it assembled the way it should have came it was a disappointment. The pork was tough and chewy and overcooked. It didn't have any flavor and the only spice that came from it was siracha sauce that I applied to it. For a better bahn mi I'd rather have gone to my favorite Vietnamese Place. The same rang true of the summer roll. After I took out the massive pile of carrots all it had was leaf lettuce and shrimp. Zero pork or Noodles or cucumber. Again better at the other place. It came with a sweet dipping sauce which was decent. It was also more expensive than my other spot I eat at usually but it's always nice to try new places and locally owned. They were very busy with carry out orders and dine in eaters. I can't say it was the worst place I've eaten at and the food looked way better than it tasted. Would I go again? Prob not. Wo up of I recommend it, of course cause I think we should try new to us local places when we have a chance. We may end up loving it. Employees were friendly and accommodating. The place was decently clean but small with just anger tables to dine in and eat. Small counter to order from that is packed with trinkets and we had to ask for silverware. Indiana is hard to find pho spots, mainly here in Fort Wayne where I am residing temporarily. This place has really good bahn mi, the bread isn't all too fresh I would say, and the beef balls in the pho is actually really bad. However the fillings of the sandwich is really good a little dry with little to no sauce, but the meat is fresh and flavorful and the veggies are fresh. The pho itself is flavorful, and delicious, I ask for extra tendon and no beef ball, because the texture is too soft and not tender. The service is awesome and the ambiance is homey like California pho spots that are authentic. I will be coming here often! read more

I crave banh mi sandwiches like breathing. I will say that THIS banh mi is one of the best I've had. What do I love about them? * Soft bread. As another reviewer noted, often the hard, crunchy baguette traditionally used in this sandwich cuts my mouth - so much so that I had stopped eating them. SO! This is a huge plus. * Flavorful fillings. The BBQ meat is not a traditional USA BBQ flavor - more like grilled meat. It's incredibly delicious. * NOT hot or hot, your choice. I do not do spicy - at all. As in, if there were an option for negative flames because zero flames is a bit too spicy, I'd choose it. My husband, on the other hand, REALLY loves spicy food. Be sure to confirm your choice when ordering, or else suffer the opposite. * Double meat option. I love that we can add double the meat for only a little bit more money. As is, the standard meat option isn't enough protein for me. Other things we love about this restaurant: Boba tea! Tip: get it blended. Incredible!! Tip #2: try the avocado one. It is, by far, the most refreshing boba I've ever tasted. Tip #3: our daughter absolutely loves the Thai tea, and asks for it with less sugar (thank you!!!). Friendly staff, delicious smells, easy parking. FYI: Things I do NOT love, and would have incurred a star downgrade, but the sandwiches are so extraordinary that we live with it: 1. Cleaning the floor while we eat. PLEASE wait until you close at night, or there aren't people sitting where you are sweeping. Nothing is more likely to make me not want to come back (or, to get takeout) than staff cleaning while we are dining - even sweeping under our feet. 2. Telling customers that there is only one serving left of the boba, and you giving that serving to your daughter and forgoing your own boba tea, and then hearing it said to the next customer. This has happened almost every time we are in there. WHY? I'd love to know. Instead of heading to another fast food place, if you're driving through (as we do), make a 2 minute detour here. I was disappointed with my food from here. I'm not trying to be harsh but it truly was my least favorite pho and banh mi ever. Maybe it was because I got takeout and it would've been better had I dined in, but I don't think that was the main issue. The beef pho broth tasted like it came from a carton rather than made in-house, there was not much meat nor variety of meat (only the cheapest cuts of beef), very little noodles and veggies/basil, and just too salty. The korean bbq banh mi had very little flavor, no spice even though I ordered medium spice, and the bun was cold and hard. The bubble tea had very little bubbles in it and several were very hard to chew. The food was absolutely not worth the price I paid. This is a hole in the wall pho restaurant that keeps it simple but does it right. Their pho selection is limited to beef or chicken. There is no option for tripe, brisket, meatballs etc it's just beef. I will say the broth is on point especially on a cold winter day. The smell of the restaurant alone is intoxicating. I have dined here 3-4 times and adore their Vegetarian Pho. Everything i have tried is so delicious and flavorful. My husband works fairly close and thus visits quite regularly. His favorite is the Korean barbecue sandwich, we have never had a better one anywhere. They don't have many options for picky American kids (no chicken or French fries). Thankfully my son is not picky!
