Pork chop banh tieu. A bit greasy at the bottom.

Banh Haus is an amazing hidden gem just off of Dundas in Chinatown serving epic Vietnamese street eats with a twist. It's a takeout spot with a few signature low stools out front, a familiar sight for those who have visited Vietnam. The banh tieu (Vietnamese donut) sandwich is a bit of a rarity here so I had to try it. You get your choice of a five-spice or lemongrass thick cut pork chop which is grilled to order. Paired with a homemade pâté, cucumbers, pickled carrots & daikon, cilantro, mayo and hot sauce (optional). The pork was cooked really well but wish it had more lemongrass flavour. I personally prefer a more punchy do Chua (pickled carrots & daikon) with stronger sweetness and sourness. The bottom of the banh tieu also got rather greasy. I otherwise really enjoyed this sandwich. The pâté was notably delicious, the portion is large and everything tasted fresh. The iced coffee was also great. It was appropriately strong and had a good condensed milk sweetness to balance out the strong coffee. Service was friendly. The space is clean but there's no accessible entrance.

    Banh mi to go packaging.

Chipotle style Banh Mi process. Pick your bread, protein, sauce, and condiments. Opted for sesame, as cashier mentioned it was a popular option. Bread was hard. Tofu. Lemon grass or five spice. Opted for five spice. Tofu was thick and flavourful. Every bite had the tofu trying to slip away. Still bitter about the hard bread. It's supposed to be fresh and soft.

This place has a Modern Asian spin on Banh Mi. That also means modern Asian prices. I'm not sure it's sustainable given the competition (not just from Asian places) - it's pricey for what you get. The menu is a bit more interesting than the usual bahn mi menu, granted. Seafood Banh Mi had a light tangy sauce which was nice. It had tomato, cucumber, pickled daikon & carrot & lots of coriander. There was some shrimp but not a lot, which tasted ok, albeit not very distinct. It was supposed to be deep fried but was not crispy (it was probably deep fried a while back). The bread was rather crusty, but on the dry side. Decor & packaging here are nicer than average.

I know that the ube trend is taking over but PLEASE before you advertise your product as such, DO YOUR RESEARCH and make sure that you are actually serving the thing. I'm Filipino and not only did I feel so offended by how this tasted, I also felt like I should be refunded. First of, the ube mixture was RED. I don't know where you're getting your ube mixture from but ube is PURPLE. The powder was chunky and did not at all taste like ube. Please, I get it we all want to make money from whats popular but take time to educate yourself. Get it from the right source OR ask a person who knows the product if its being presented right or if tastes remotely close. I'm very disappointed and would no longer be advertising Neo to my friends & family

The staff shared that it's an Earl Grey tea latte. Since this is a flavour I really love, I had to try it out. I don't know if it's the quality of Earl Grey tea leaves or what, this tastes really good and nothing like any other Earl Grey latte I ever had. I hope it sticks around because it really like it! And of course presentation of their drinks is always on point!
