Banh & Bowl Co. is a sleek new banh mi restaurant that opened up in the old Green Grotto location which later became a Du Hsiao Yueh location before Banh & Bowl took over. I stopped by to check out their March Break BOGO promo. From March 16 to March 22, buy one banh mi get a second one free. Only from 3 PM to 6 PM.

I came with a few friends for their Banh Mi BOGO deal from 3-6pm. The inside was quite nice and modern and oh my goodness the line was so long. We came at 2:55pm and still had to wait 15 minutes. Eventually it wrapped around the entire dining area of the restaurant. The condition was that you had to follow them on Instagram and my friend didn't realize until it was our turn in line. Since he doesn't use Instagram, the cashier was so nice and said a google review would be sufficient. Between 3 of us, we ended up getting 2 Classic Cold Cuts for $5.95, 2 Lemon grass Chicken for $ 7.95 and 2 of their Savory Beef for $8.95. To be completely transparent we didn't eat these right away since we ate lunch beforehand so that may affect the quality of them. Now on to the sandwiches themselves. All of their sandwiches suffered from the same problem. The stale bread. It was so chewy and rubbery. It gave me a jaw workout. They were running this promotion from March 16 to 22 so maybe they over prepared the bread. I did like how the bread was quite thin. The Classic Cold cut was the worst of the 3 sandwiches we got. They really skimped on the meat. The pickled veggies were really delicious and very tangy. But the sandwich was just too tangy since there wasn't enough meat to balance out the flavor. The Lemongrass Chicken and the Savory Beef were both much better. They didn't skimp on the meat so it was very balanced with the pickled veggies. The meat was also quite tender and juicy. Another thing is they added pork floss on every banh mi but honesty it didn't really add anything. I could barely taste it. I am just disappointed because I feel like these could be very amazing sandwiches if the bread was just better. I think I would come back again if I was in the area after the promotion is over to see if their bread would be better. But I would definitely skip out on the Classic Cold Cut and opt for their other banh mi's. I do think even without BOGO, their prices are very fair.

Okay we like this place! It's newly opened, the dining area is clean and spacious, the portions are so so generous, every dish was loaded with a lot of protein!!!!! The ingredients taste fresh and flavourful! So they operate like a fast food restaurant, instead of table service, you order at the front counter, take your order number and pick a seat, the dishes would be served to your table once ready. I personally like this concept a lot, yes no server is there to fill up your water for you, but you also avoided having to respond "how's the food" midway chewing.

The pho was delicious and generous. The service was fast. I love the atmosphere, the eating place was very clean and washroom was clean and well maintained.

Since it was my first time using the app, I also received a few coupons, including 25% off a single drink. KALE BOOST TEA - 9.99 + normal ice + light sugar + jasmine green tea + with chia seed I was hesitant to order this drink because paying for a vegetable-based tea sounded questionable, but my cousin insisted it was refreshing. Surprisingly, there was none of the bitterness I expected from kale, and it paired really well with the jasmine green tea. I loved the chia seeds topping, and hopefully it will help with my bowel movements after all the heavy foods I've been eating this past week. My cousin ordered the limited tiramisu milk tea, which HEYTEA is currently offering in collaboration with Pop Mart. We expected it to be fun, but it ended up being fun AND genuinely good. The coffee notes blended nicely with the milk tea, and it wasn't overly sweet or heavy. Overall, this was a solid stop, and I'm glad I got to enjoy something light and refreshing after stuffing myself with dim sum nearby.

My meat-eating boyfriend and I dropped by for lunch on a weekday. The staff told us they just…read morereopened after a period of renovations. The interior has been spruced up. It's bright, airy, and modern. We ordered 3 dishes to share: cauliflower wings, broccoli Mac n cheese, and the seitan chick'n sandwich. We also got 2 kombuchas and with tax and tip, the order came to $60. The food was yummy. I can't say it's the best vegan place I have ever been to, but it's definitely quite tasty. My favourite was the cauliflower wings followed by the seitan chick'n sandwich. I'm not crazy about nutritional yeast, so I didn't love the Mac n cheese. Overall, the menu has many options to choose from, which is a big plus in my opinion. Would recommend to both vegan and non-vegan eaters to try :)

3.5 Stars I'm torn…read more I really want to jump on the bandwagon and say that the smoothies here are out of this world, but I can't. Yes, this was refreshing after a day of hiking the falls of Hamilton. Yes, it was very healthy. Yes, service was amazingly friendly and cheerful. Yes, the atmosphere was relaxing and trendy. No, the smoothies were not amazing. Don't get me wrong, they were good, but they didn't exactly taste like what they were supposed to taste like. I think they just need to reformulate the amounts of the ingredients that go into the smoothies. All of their smoothies have a spinach and kale base. I ordered the Sobi-Smoothie "Strawberries and Cream", which had strawberries, bananas, coconut milk, almonds, and cranberries. My cousin ordered the Mumbai Mango, which had mangoes, bananas, and coconut milk. Our other cousin ordered the Chocolate Cherry. While I enjoyed tasting all the smoothies, I felt that they mostly tasted the same; the only smoothie where I could taste all the flavors was the Chocolate Cherry. The use of coconut milk in the other two smoothies was extremely heavy-handed because that was the dominant flavor in both of them. You couldn't even taste the bananas, which are usually a very strong flavor profile. It felt like we were mostly drinking the coconut milk smoothies with a hint of strawberries or a hint of mangoes, not the other way around. That said, you definitely feel good about yourself when you eat here because you know exactly what you're putting into your body. The GSB has a menu of foods, smoothies, and snacks that are all 100% organic and vegan; they are also an extremely green business (no pun intended) and compost all their waste -- even their cups, straws, and food containers are compost friendly. All in all, I'd check this place out again if I ever go back to Hamilton; I'd probably ask for less coconut milk though.
