Swimming Rama

Bangkok Basil is a small, cute restaurant on the Eastside with solid Thai food. We arrived on a rainy day weekend so the restaurant was fairly empty. The spaceis nicely decorated with lots of paintings and tapestry on the wall, making the space warm and welcoming. Food: We got roast duck curry and swimming rama noodles. Roast duck curry: the curry was tasty, the duck was well-prepared, it was not too crispy but doesn't affect the taste of the dish. Swimming rama noodle: the wide stir-fried noodles combined with the peanut sauce was very delicious. Service: service was fast, our server was very nice and cheerful, definitely made our rainy day better!

Beautiful hole-in-the-wall Thai place. Food came out piping hot and fresh. Curry was balanced, flavorful, with a great coconut base. Pad see ew noodles were cooked just right with a sweet and peppery kick. Lovely!

Small restaurant with a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Free parking is easy in the lot but during traffic time could be hard to enter or leave the lot. Service is okay nothing to rave about and nothing to complain about. Food is tasty and great portions but a bit on the pricier side. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer which is about $10. The calamari was not bad but was different. This calamari was giving onion rings.... lol literally looked like onion rings and the breading tastes like onion rings. Wouldn't order the calamari again, probably would recommend skipping that. For the main entree I ordered the Pad Thai add prawns and spice level 3. The Pad Thai is about $18 and to add prawns it was $5 dollars more, so definitely on the pricier side. I've had great Pad Thai at lower prices elsewhere so this was a bit pricy in my opinion. The flavor and spice were super tasty but I did have to ask for lime since I didn't receive any like most places give. The waitress only gave me one slice when I asked for multiple... I was very appreciative of the large portions though as I had leftovers for later that evening. If I return I would order a spice level 4 as I love spicy and it wasn't spicy enough tbh. Food and atmosphere is enjoyable. Don't see myself returning or going out of my way to come here tbh but it's an okay spot in the Redmond area if you're craving Thai food.

I just moved back to the PNW after 5 years away. This was the first meal that I ate out. How come the Thai food here is so vastly superior than elsewhere? Blows my mind. My wife's pad woon sen were the best noodles I've had in 5 years. The yellow curry noodles were a banger as well and such a big portion that two people split it and we still had leftovers. Even the chicken satay was markedly superior than out of state. Not to mention the space was very nicely decorated with hand-drawn signs in warm colors advertising their intriguing specials (avocado green curry, crab pad thai etc). 3 adults and a toddler spent less than $60 and had leftovers. I would love to come back.

This is my first time at Bangkok basil. I ordered Pad Kee Mao, Chicken satay and banana coconut milk. Pad Kee Mao (beef with 5* spicy) - excellent taste, beef was little over cooked but over all tasted excellent. Quantity - good for 1 Chicken Stay - got 4 skews with peanut sauce and cucumber dipped with some sweet sauce. It was good. Quantity - good for 1 or 2 Banana in coconut milk - surprise desert at the end. Good and tasty. Quantity - good for 2 Service was great Ambience was pleasing. Definitely recommend

A cute mom-pop shop in a strip mall near the highway on ramp. We had passed by this place a bunch of times while driving and made a point to go recently. I'm glad we did! The interior is warmly decorated albeit a bit small. Although we weren't greeted right away, we were seated promptly. There was a large party taking up half the seats and it seemed like there may have only been a few people working; we only saw the hostess on the floor and heard one voice coming from the kitchen. As we had our dinner, more people joined the group and a solo diner got a table behind us. We each ordered an entree and got pot stickers to share. Our guest hadn't only eaten at one Thai restaurant in his life so he ordered what he had before. As this was a new-to-us place, we also ordered our staples as a litmus test. Pot Stickers: Classic dumplings with a zippy vinaigrette. Tom Yum Soup: Our friend said the flavor was good but it was different from what he anticipated - he thought his order would come with noodles. As he was our guest, we encouraged him to order a side of them to add to his soup, but he declined. Pad Kee Mao: Surprisingly flavorful since considering I ordered this not spicy (I didn't even say 1 star). Generous portion and a decent amount of vegetables and tofu. The noodles could have been crispier, but they overall experience positive. Red Curry: My husband's order, which I can't recall the feedback... BUT he did eat it all. I'll come back to this.

Pad See-Ew with chicken, $17.95 – 3.5 Stars

Bangkok Basil is located at a busy street corner/strip-mall in Redmond. While we dined-in, there were only one other table eating there the entire time. Every customer did take-out only, and there were many, many take-out orders. The place is small with maybe 10 tables. It's moderately decorated on top of older looking furniture. It is sufficient for a mom & pop type of neighborhood restaurant. Only one lady serviced the dining room; I suspect they know their business is mostly take-out. She was amicably sufficient. The menu has all the typical and expected dishes, except one. If there is anything unusual, I am ordering it! The prices seem comparable, but they have higher upcharges for prawns (+$5), seafood (+$6), and sub-Brown Rice ($3.50, yikes!). The place I normally go to (7 minutes away) charges prawns (+$3), seafood (+$5), and brown rice ($0.00!!!). These three are all important to me in a Thai menu. This might explain why I have ignored them for years. The Food: Avocado Curry with Tofu, 4-star spicy, $19.95 - 4.5 Stars This is the one less common dish on the menu. Other places have it, but definitely less common. Chunks of avocado is added to a typical green curry. Green curry has a sharper taste than yellow and red, but the creamy avocado nullifies it nicely. Yummy dish. I would have wanted brown rice, but I sure am not paying $3.50 for it. Roast Duck Curry, $22.95 - 4 Stars Boneless piece of duck in a red curry sauce. It met expectations. Pad See-Ew with chicken, $17.95 - 3.5 Stars The noodles are way overcooked and lifeless. However, the dish has good wok-hei and good flavor. I am giving them a passing grade.

I love this spot so much. Unfortunately their spice level varies wildly so my husband won't get them with me anymore, but I stop in solo when I get a chance!

So. Delicious. Everything on the menu is amazing! Just eat it! Shut up and eat it!! Really, this place is one of the places I go to so often that I should have a membership card. The place is small and always busy, even at odd hours you're rarely alone. I most often do take-out though as the location is not really in a "stumbled in while out walking" place. Their pad see-ew is particularly good. If you like your Thai food spicy you'll have to remember to order at the highest spice-level here (5) or else you'll be disappointed as anything below 4 is barely noticeable as heat on your tongue.

Great local spot for Thai food. It has a relatively quaint atmosphere and seems like a great lesser-known spot. I ordered the Crispy Duck Curry (with Penang curry) and was blown away with both the portion size and the flavors. Since our meal took ~40 minutes to prepare, the owner was nice enough to give us complimentary Thai Tea which was also quite good. Definitely would recommend if you're looking for a new Thai place!

One of my offices requested Bangkok Basil for lunch, and I was so impressed with the service and recommendations from the staff I ordered my family dinner a few hours later. Customer service was fantastic, I greatly appreciate how Ann checks to ensure every item orders is within the to go bag. I was also able to customize each dish per preferences within the online ordering portal. My husband really enjoyed his sweet and sour chicken, unlike most Bangkok Basil doesn't add a batter to fry the chicken making it better to serve with the rice. The pad Thai was really good, filled with flavor and vegetables. I will definitely return, and highly recommend.

Pad See Ew with pork

Solid Thai restaurant in Redmond, located directly off the 405 freeway. Their interior is super cozy, staff was super friendly. I ordered take out, pork pad see ew and the beef Bangkok Basil. Overall both dishes were solid but, I wish I would have upped the spice to 5 stars. I got both dishes at 3 stars which is always my go to first time level to gauge the restaurant's spice levels. There was little to no spice so for upcoming orders I will be requesting 5+ stars Good food, wholesome friendly staff, and it feels family owned which I also love Definitely give them a visit if you're in the area!

Great place when you're craving Hainanese Chicken…read more I had the combo chicken rice, which comes with your lighter Hainanese chicken and fried chicken. The Hainanese chicken was so tender and almost pure. It had depth and complemented the chicken fat infused rice. It's a nice balance and you can dip sauce into it if you like more intense flavors. I also liked the fried chicken because it had more texture to a tender dish and I found it nice to go back and forth. We also tried the noodles and it was decent and had a slow burn (spicy) to it but i like the rice dishes the best. The combo chicken was more than enough food for me - I left very full. Ambiance is casual. We arrived on Friday around 6:45pm, and joined a waitlist of 9 for 2 ppl. We waited about 25 minutes for a table. You sit down, order via QR code, and food comes out! Service was decent - nice and friendly and attentive - it's not a place where they'll wait on you regularly but it's also not that kind of setting. Parking is either on the street or in the H Mart complex parking lot. All in all - great eatery

The chicken was steamed beautifully, and the pieces tasted very fresh. The dish came with two kinds of sauces, and both are perfectly delicious. The rice was cooked with chicken fat and juices. It is high in calories, but it's worth it once in a while. My complaints for the place is, I wish they would offer a stir fried vegetable dish. I think veggies choices are lacking a bit on the menu. Also, I noticed their floor were extremely greasy and slippery. They put down black rugs in main walkways , but on the way to the restroom was without and I almost slip and fell. They really need a deep clean to their floor, or someone might fall for real.

My favorite dishes are the PHAD SEE EIW with chicken ($16.25) and the THAI GRILLED BEEF SALAD (cooked medium) ($20.50). The PHAD SEE EIW has the perfect sauce balance of sweet and savory flavors and comes with broccoli and carrot. The noodles are super long and wide so you know they are fresh and not from the box. The THAI GRILLED BEEF SALAD definitely has a kick to it. This dish comes with raw cucumbers, carrots, onions, and basil and is served in a tangy and umami fish sauce vinegar mix. The beef is extremely tasty, tender, and well-marinated. This past visit, my friends and I also tried two new dishes that I've never had at Isarn before- their CHIANG MAI NOODLES (aka Khao Soi) ($17.25) and the MINCED LAMB WITH THAI BASIL ($16.50). The CHIANG MAI NOODLES were beautifully presented with a nest of crunchy egg noodles on top of a creamy yellow curry with soft egg noodles underneath. It was served with pickled mustard cabbage and onions for extra punch of flavor. The MINCED LAMB WITH THAI BASIL reminded me of Vietnamese larb. However, this dish was more savory and less tangy than larb and the basil really shined through. It is quite oily though so make sure to enjoy it with a side of JASMINE RICE ($2.75). Portions are generous for all dishes and I always leave with leftovers. The atmosphere is modern, clean, and trendy. It's a great place for catching up with friends and not too loud. I will say the restaurant is a bit on the darker side, but that's just how they set the ambiance. Service was good and we got our food promptly within 15-20 minutes after ordering. It took a bit of time to waive the waiter down for to-go boxes, but they were attentive otherwise. Note that Isarn doesn't take reservations and it's street parking only. However, they have a waiting list kiosk inside the restaurant and so if they're busy, you can sign up for notifications and walk around the downtown Kirkland shops while you're waiting. Overall: 5/5 for food, 4/5 for service, 5/5 for atmosphere

Went on a Friday night with a group of 5 and waited about an hour before getting seated. Unfortunately, you can't join the waitlist ahead of time and when your table is ready, you gotta be RIGHT THERE as we literally walked in 30 seconds after they called us and didn't leave a message, but the staff informed us that they had given our table away. Luckily, we just got the next one available, but felt like a needlessly stressful experience. Jumbo Firecracker Prawns (4.25/5): Spring rolls and shrimp had a baby. Crunchy outside with tender shrimp and sweet chili sauce - a perfect appetizer to share. Isarn Fried Rice (4.25/5): A fried rice unlike any other. Was my personal favorite dish of the night. The rice kernels were separated into individual grains and coated in grease in the best way possible. I'm a kale hater, but the combination with salted eggs and the purposefully chewy fried steak pieces was just super delicious! Northern Style Sweet Curry (3.75/5): The curry itself is fantastic: super balanced between savory, fragrant, and sweet. The steak chunks unfortunately were just a bit overcooked and chewy. Durian Sticky Rice (4.25/5): Sticky rice has a super satisfying chew and I appreciated that the sauce wasn't overly sweet. Durian itself was sweet and creamy with just a touch funk. If you've never had durian before, this is a fantastic intro.

The fact that these were also coated in oil was pretty nice. On the inside, I thought the prawns were cooked well - they remained pretty soft and didn't appear overcooked I did feel like the spice was pretty much missing, though. I ordered 4/5 stars, but it tasted more like 1/5 stars as there was a pretty significant lack of spice that took away from a lot of the flavor potential. Speaking of the missing flavor, there should've been a lot more sauce added to this dish - either poured on top of the prawns or the prawns come sitting in it. The benefit of this is that it you can mix everything with the rice - and this sauce coats the rice to make it taste good. The way it's currently presented, the prawns are too large to really eat with the rice, and mixing the two will just result in eating the meat and taking another bite of plain rice because there isn't enough sauce to coat the rice. This dish just ended up being eating the prawns by themselves - the rice wasn't super useful As a result, after finishing I really wasn't that full For the price (around 20 ish) there are a good amount of prawns, but I wouldn't really say you're getting a good deal here
