I was so excited to try this salon after reading all the positive reviews, but I left incredibly…read moredisappointed. I came in asking for a simple trim, about one inch off, and a very subtle face frame. I also made it clear multiple times that I did not want layers. Instead, I left with a head full of layers and what appears to be at least three inches cut off the back instead of the one inch I requested. During the haircut, I could tell it was heading in the direction I specifically asked to avoid, so I reiterated that I didn't want layers. Despite that, the haircut continued the same way. When I asked afterward why I had been given layers, I was initially told they weren't layers. Once I pointed them out bc they clearly were, I was told, "It looks better that way," and "It will grow out." I don't appreciate the attempt to gaslight me as if I can't see the cut and don't know how long my hair was. A stylist's personal preference should never override what a client explicitly requests. Hair takes months to grow back, and this isn't something that can simply be undone. Disappointed that the experience did not live up to the online reputation. This seems to be such a common issue. Why?!

I've been coming to Cutthroat Barbershop on Washington for a couple years now, and it's become my…read morego-to spot without question. From the moment you walk in, you just know you're in a good barber's hands--and that you're going to walk out looking sharp. I've been seeing Danny for a while now, and what I appreciate most is the trust I've built with him. I'm not just coming in for the same old cut every time--I feel comfortable enough to let him do whatever he thinks will work best, whether it's a seasonal update or just something new. He's got a great eye, and I always leave looking clean and confident. The shop itself is in a super convenient location right off Washington Ave, with a solid-sized parking lot (rare in this area!). It's also right next to Catalina Coffee and Dark Horse Tavern, so whether you need a quick pick-me-up or a drink before or after your cut, it's all right there. Cutthroat even offers a complimentary drink before your service, which is a nice touch--even though I'm usually rolling in last-minute and don't take full advantage. All in all, it's a laid-back but professional spot with real barbers who know what they're doing. Highly recommend.

As others have mentioned, they are pretty rigid when it comes to tardiness so....don't be late. Just as an adult and as a general rule, don't be late. Leave early and allow for unexpected delays to arise, this is Houston after all. If you're 15 minutes early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late. They offer free beverages to enjoy while you wait for your appointment to begin, these vary from local beer to whiskey. If you're interested, you may need to request it, not all of the receptionists proactively offer but it is included. Not a bad offering and is appreciated as these aren't the cheapest services you'll find, but they're in-line with other moderately upscale men's barbershops ($40 beard trim etc) and my experiences have always proven worth it.

I had a "membership" at this location for a year. I found it to be very difficult to get a…read moreconsistent haircut that aligned with what I described. Something always went wrong and I had to get a corrective cut. I also notice a lot of staff turnover, and it feels understaffed. Stylists would come and go, and I have to re-describe what I want to achieve. The new stylists always felt very amature - maybe okay for fades or basic cuts, but folks with longer hair desiring Layered Flow cuts will be dissapointed. As such, I canceled my membership a few months back, switched to a new salon that is delivering consistent results and listening to my needs, and will not be back to Boardroom.

And also no longer do the aftershave splash on the neck and behind the ear. But the trade-off is that they did two things I never expected. First, they also took care of some growing hair in and around both ears. And second, they washed my head. I think it's a good trade-off. But it is pricey here. 5 Stars Vibe: Masculine quasi-old-school-and-modern vibe. 5 Stars Overall: 5 Stars

I also noticed they recently moved into a new location, so they're still getting settled in, but that didn't take away from the top-notch experience. I'm still on the fence about committing to a membership, so I'm giving myself a couple of days to think it over. One thing I noticed was a bit of emphasis on product sales, especially at checkout when some items were presented to me. I understand the business side of it--these aren't products you'd typically find at your local HEB--and I appreciated that the checkout staff gave me the option rather than any pressure. I ended up choosing just the mold rather than the full set that was offered. All in all, it was a great experience, and I'd definitely consider coming back when I want to feel like a Gent and a King!

Nonetheless, this place still gets the job done right. I walked in on a Sunday around 3:45 PM and, despite seeing about 3-4 people ahead of me, I was seated by 4:35 PM - not a bad wait at all! I opted for the wash, cut, and blowout, which came out to a total of $35. I was finished by 5:05 PM, so the service was quick and efficient. (You can call ahead and make an appointment as well). They also let you check the front and back of the hair with a mirror to make sure you like it.
