I got the info on this place from SmogSmart.com (and a $10 off coupon). I had been pricing a lot of places and if they were cheap usually I couldn't get decent service over the phone - rude and uncommunicative or they left out the additional costs of the certs. I called this morning to see if they were open and if there was a good time. The gentleman said to come over whenever, just make sure to be there at least 15 minutes before he closed. I did end up waiting but he didn't waste any time and got the three people ahead of me done really fast. Positives: Turn around is quick. He had a lot of repeat business, people that were there all knew him and had been there before. Negatives: Location, I don't know how I found it because it is up an alley off the main street. Its back behind a mexican place and a couple houses. I will be going there again when my other vehicles need it. Just bring a book in case there are a few people ahead of you because he will get to you quick as he can. read more

This place is fast, honest and inexpensive. After passing smog, I was sitting in the parking lot by the nearby Mexican restaurant. My car had a minor mechanical disaster (not related to smog in any way). After my car limped back up to the shop, the owner was incredibly helpful and helped me determine what was wrong with my vehicle and what to do about it. It seems that many smog shops (especially the cheaper ones) are shady and dishonest. This place is neither. I would highly recommend this shop to anybody who needs their car smogged. read more

Well, times are a CHANGING..did make appt on line but I was not sent a link to my e-mail though I provided it. Had to send e-mail to confirm appt. Received e-mail from owner, next day, confirming appt. Arrived 5 mins early, and was set up right away. Now before, I think I was able to pay ahead of time? Don't remember..but I did see a 30% off offer in Yelp when you check in. I told tge attendant as he insisted I pay, $40. He said its regularly $50. I get it, I'm getting a discount YET when someone called asking the price, the attendant said $40. So I'm not getting a deal? Also, 30% of 50 is $15/off not $10. The attendant is not a good communicator, just mumbles, and insists, $40.00, SIGN. I complied. Don't want a hassle. Five Stars for a smog test center? Yep. I've been getting my cars smog-tested for decades, and at this place, it's as good as it gets ! Well, if they offered complimentary lobster tacos it would be better, I guess. The tester, Recardo Villegas was very personable and informative. The test itself, start to finish, took about 15 minutes. Due to my car being newer than the 1999 model year, the test involved only the car's onboard computer. No tailpipe sniffer involved. $40 with the coupon available online. Cheapest price I know about. They take MC and Visa, but not AmEx. Oh, cash works pretty well, too. I made an appointment online, and was the only car there when I showed up. No wait. When Mr. Villegas handed me the official paperwork, he advised that I keep it, in case the State doesn't send me my renewal sticker. Good advice. But the Cal DMV never, ever makes mistakes, right? Right. A loud shout-out to Vince S., who posted the pic of the ghastly red and yellow striped Loreto's Mexican restaurant as a landmark. Otherwise, this place would be almost impossible to find, being behind Loreto's, off the alley intersecting with Bancroft. I hope this place is in business two years from now. This person actually hung up on me when I asked about the coupon that they had advertised for $31.75 + $8.25 for the certificate. This coupon said that for those cars 1995 & older add $10 extra. This gentlman said no no,,,, this car which is a 1998 Lexus is $60.00. I asked, so you are not honoring the coupon that I have that says.....and then CLICK!
