My friend and I saw this place while on vacation and were instantly intrigued. After deciding to make a evening stop, we were so glad that we found it. Great concept! Can't miss a small gathering of aluminum travel trailers (think 70's inspired) lined up on a gravely road in a circle. First thing I noticed was a girl sitting in her trailer all alone in this quite food truck spot (other food trailer had closed for the night). Her outfit was cute, kind of hippy chic, kind of DYI thanks to the awesome headpiece she was wearing bonus point to anyone willing to wear an awesome headband with a spoon sticking straight out of the top! She greeted up and gave us some time to look over their menu, so much to choose from, everything from making your own custom banana to their specialties. I decided to order: A whole The Hippy Dippy ($4.75) - Banana, Granola, Craisins, and Cinnamon with vegan chocolate. We were told that it would take awhile since everything is made to order, we were in no rush and just enjoyed sitting on the nearby benches watching the traffic and people walking up to order after us. It took about eight or so long minutes for our friendly cashier/banana maker to let us know they were ready for pick up. She apologized that she ran out of plates and did not know if they restocked so she wrapped them in extra aluminum. Sat back down in our spot and proceeded to unwrap our giant gifts (me being giddy because I love frozen bananas and I finally got one) holy GIANT and I do mean GIANT banana Batman! These suckers were huge no skinny anorexic southern California banana here, instead I found out later that they use Turbana bananas. Sitting in front of me was pure chocolate, granola, craisin heaven! The smell of cinnamon filled the small space around me. Then I realized to myself and aloud to Minh "How in the hell am I suppose to eat this sucker". We both laughed and dove right in. The plastic spoon that is inserted in the butt of the banana does work wonders but be careful when enjoying this heavenly banana because that plastic will sneak up on you! I can proudly say that I finished that whole banana and was happy as a grasshopper hopping in some lush wet green grass! I am a bananarchists ... are you? ... Bananarchy was definitely one of my first loves in the ATX after I first moved here. I heard about this amazing place from my cousin and knew I had to seek it out. At the time they were in a different location over on Lamar, now their trailer is on S. 1st in a little food trailer lot at Live Oak St. This is a great location for them because well they are south and close to me! My favorite go to frozen banana is the cookie crumble dipped in vanilla. The cookie crumble is a mix of crushed up Oreos and chocolate chip cookies. They melt down the chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter or vegan chocolate then dip the frozen banana and then cover in what ever topping or mixture you choose. The cookie crumble is just so good it is hard for me to venture away from it and try something new. They usually have a special that they change out on a weekly basis too. I also love that you can make banana grams while you wait for your order! I know that frozen bananas might seem like a simple thing they are doing, but seriously how many places can you get something like this and even if you could do something like this at home 99% of people will not - so you must go here and have the experience of getting yourself one of the best things on earth because if you don't you are totally missing out! So... I gave Bananarchy four stars... it was hard, I mean honestly its just a frozen banana and how hard is it to dip a banana in chocolate and cover it with candy? I had the white chocolate banana covered in reese's pieces and it was amazing .. the best frozen banana I have ever had.. sure it was the first frozen banana I've ever had but it was awesome, I cant imagine much anyone making a much better frozen banana. I also tried the Oreo cookie covered banana and it was rather good also. I wish I could say something more about the food but its a rather simple set up . Incredibly delicious. I'm a banana lover in general and frozen bananas make me dance. I'd do anything for a good frozen banana. These frozen bananas are the best I've ever had. They're super big, coated with a thick layer of chocolate and piled high with the toppings. It's a filling meal by itself. Coming in at night, it was the only trailer open in the lot. Located on SoFi. It's dark around there so you don't know whether it's open or not. But they're open. They even have vegan chocolate options which is awesome. I ordered one Pecan Pie banana. It's loaded with pecans and it's an absolute treat. You gotta experience one of their bananas to know. Assume that a Pint of Haagen-Dazs is worth four stars. Assume that a Pint of Blue Bell is worth two stars. You would not drive across town for something as good as a pint of Blue Bell - but you probably would for something as good as a pint of Haggen-Dazs. I drive all the way across town - no questions asked - for Thai coconut ice cream at Thai Fresh. So where does Bananarchy stand? Totally pleasant, but not my number one dessert treat. Three stars seems right. Frozen bananas are worse than ice cream because you have to bite them. Ice cream you just spoon in. Bananas freeze your teeth. American bananas sadly don't taste like much. (Anyone who has had the various alt-bananas available in tropical countries knows that bananas CAN have really really strong yummy tastes.) Brazilians call our bananas "bananas de agua" or water bananas - and they are not incorrect. Bananachy saves its bananas with chocolate sauce. Really good chocolate sauce. Really really really really good chocolate sauce. Now many fine establishments in this town have really really really good chocolate sauce. But chocolate sauce done right is a lot like (fill in the blank with your favorite physical pleasure ... say hot baths). Just because it is common and widespread doesn't mean it isn't wonderful. Outside of the chocolate sauce - the banana confections struggle. A lot of the "roll around" ingredients don't bring much to the party. (Oreos? Graham crackers? Salted nuts?) Pure texture plays - that don't add that much taste or pizzazz. Coffee beans are a more interesting because they have a stronger taste which goes well with banana. Not a good choice for 11 pm at nite ... but a live option. (in more ways than one). So you have to be somewhat fussy about designing your banana to have the ingredients all be good and play well together. (Compare with a Sno-Cone place where you have 125 options - each of which are good and each of which have a strong distinctive flavor). Maybe I am just missing all the hoopla or maybe I ordered the wrong frozen banana but this just did not do it for me. I would take an ice cream any day. I came her with my gf on a late Saturday night and there were a few others in the park with food from some of the other vendors. I ordered the special with was a cake themed one and my gf ordered the oreo cookie crushed one. I will say that hers was 100x better then mine but my review is based mostly on my banana. It was dedicated to the kickstarter pledge but it really lacked any type of major flavor or taste. I will say the half size was plenty and perfect for that small dessert crave. I LOVED IT. I've had the chance to try bananarchy before as they often come visit UT campus during Rez Week. However I've never had the chance to actually come to their truck and try all the flavors they have to offer. I had the Jo banana, which is a frozen banana with chocolate and coffee beans. I have been in love with Frozen Bananas ever since Disneyworld. It is the perfect alternative to ice cream and popsicles. Plus, the Frozen Bananas served up here are made fresh to order, and can be created 100% vegan if needed. I love that I don't have to fear a trip to the dentist when biting into these delicious creations, as they aren't rock hard. There is always the special of the week, or pre determined menu options for the less creative, or get crazy and make your own. You can get a whole or half banana, dependent on your stomach size. You really can't go wrong with the banana-chocolate combo and Bananarchy took this idea and completely ran with it. They have a ton of combos, all of which I would love to try at some point. A halfsie is the perfect size for most people, unless you're ridiculously hungry in which case, go for the full-size and get yours! I got my halfsie dipped in chocolate, sprinkled with nuts and granola (in my failed attempt to my healthy) while my friend got the Afternoon Delight halfsie. Both were incredibly delicious and flavorful. Do be careful and take little bites since the banana is frozen. One problem: they do close when it's not "banana weather" but there's really no way to find out when they're closed until you drive to their location and the stand's not there. I was pretty bummed on Friday night when they weren't there and my friend suggested that we just make our own but I was adamant that my first frozen-banana experience to be at the Bananarchy food trailer. But it is definitely worth the visit! Bananas dipped in chocolate or various other toppings, and friendly staff that give good recommendations. You can peek in and watch them make your bananas once you order. Be warned, though: these babies are super super sweet and I couldn't finish a whole banana on my own. I recommend starting off with a 1/2 banana for one person, so you don't feel sad when you simply can't finish the delicious goodness of your whole frozen and dipped banana. I learned this lesson the hard way. The little lot that the trailer is parked on has some picnic benches and tables, so you can enjoy your treats comfortably. This place was so unbelievably good we had to go back the next day for another one. I saw that the place closed at 10:00 pm so after eating a late dinner we had to rush to get there. Past it up twice because I'm a complete idiot and it was 10:05. Ran to the window and the girl serving us was sooo nice and pleasant said that it was no problem and as long as she was there she was willing to serve. All the combinations looked delicious but we finally decided on the the three halves: the Afternoon Delight, Cookie Crumble, and Joe Banana. Big fan of anything coffee flavored so we ended finishing the Joe Banana before we got to the car which was 5 feet away. It was amazing! I had eating a spicy burger before we got there so the cold banana and toppings were perfect to cool off. (make sure to get the toffee and cinnamon extras!) The Cookie Crumble was then devoured in the car before pulling out of the parking lot. I love oreos so this was another banana which tasted outstanding. By this time we were kinda full so could only finish half of the Afternoon delight in the car on the way back to the hotel. The next visit I told the guy who was serving to surprise me. Think he just made a Cookie Crumble, but it was still good. One frozen whole or half banana on a spoon, vanilla/chocolate/peanut butter coating, tons of combinations of dips = DELICIOUS.
