I really enjoy coming here. Unlike many other boba places that feel a bit industrial, this is a relaxing place to spend time. That's what pushes this to 5 stars for me. The tea is always good. I wish there was a bit more flexibility in the menu about what drinks you can get hot and cold, but I've always had a delicious drink when I've gone. I've recently started studying here for a couple hours, and it's a very nice change of atmosphere from a coffee shop (such as Crescendo, also at Hilldale.) It's much quieter, they usually have nice instrumental music playing, and often their water feature is running also, which adds a nice touch. I often interact with the owners themselves, a husband and wife, and they always offer very good customer service. The husband will often bring drinks to your table even though it's not technically a table-service restaurant, which is a nice touch. The boba, while not mind-blowingly good, is better than anywhere on State St. at least. I like it. 4 (standard) - 0 (nothing bad) + 1 (wonderful place to be, great customer service) = 5 stars! read more

For a little city like Madison it can be hard sometimes to find some classic Asian beverages and desserts. Bambu should not only be recognized for their traditional 'che' desserts, but their Vietnamese coffee and fruit smoothies as well. Personally, I feel like their che is a bit overrated and expensive, but their coffee is rich and flavorful. Great bubble tea, just make sure to specify the level of sweetness you like (or else they will default to SUPER sweet). That being said, they are careful to respect your preferences and when i got mine without additional sugar it was top notch. I had a chance to visit Bambu yesterday on their soft opening day. I ordered number 10 (Bambu favorite) and it was delicious and refreshing (forgot to take the picture:) ). Then I bought Vietnamese coffee drink (Sea Salt coffee + added grass jelly) for togo to enjoy on the next day. Today I just added some ice cubes. Wow... the coffee is strong and testy, creamy but not too sweet!!!. This place will be my go to for coffee and Vietnamese drinks! Love that they now have it here in Madison. read more

I was so excited a Bubble tea shop opened in my neighborhood. Finally I didn't have to schlep my way downtown for a quick fix. I am a fan of the simple black milk tea with boba. I have ordered it on two different occasions. I like it but I don't love it. I think it's the ice that hinders the boba getting up the straw properly and takes up more space than the tea. I would like them to work on the ice to liquid ratio. The way drinks are ordered, a number is given. But when the drink came out it was called as the style of drink. The person who ordered before me ended up with my drink. I don't think she realized she was given the wrong item as she left and didn't come back. Luckily it didn't take the folks at Bambu to make me another one. They will have to make sure this gets more consistent as they get busier. The last time I was there, I sat in. The space is beautiful and it smells delicious. I read the menu and learned a bit more about their other drinks. I have not had Jack Fruit since I was in Thailand so I may try that smoothie next time or one of the Che. Yes, I noted some things they need to improve but it's still great to have this shop at Hilldale. They are new so I will let them work out the small details and will keep checking on them. read more

Yesterday, my friend surprised me with the #7 Taro special! I told him that I have always wanted to try Bambu and he brought me a drink. Let me just start by saying I have always been super skeptical of any boba places in Madison as I have been beyond SPOILED with boba options in LA. Naturally, I dug right in and was surprisingly happy with what I got! The flavors seemed natural, unlike lots of boba places that use powders and syrups (and dont let you watch them make it). I really liked all of the different textures in the drink as well. However, I wish there was more liquid and a little less taro (BUT the taro was sooooo goooood, not too sweet). Overall, I will definitely be back to try more drinks and love the concept of all of their special drinks and the make it your own combos. read more

We stopped here by accident, looking for coffee on our way to the movies. We each got a blended coffee and a mochi. We were pleasantly surprised. The coffee drinks were strong and not overly sweet. The mochi was full of flavor and fun. For those that dont know, it's a small ice cream dessert inside a soft coating. I got a coconut mocha, a coconut mochi, and a mango mochi. My wife got a Vietnamese blend and a green tea mochi. She liked hers better. I not only preferred my coffee, but thought the mango mochi was the best of what we tried. At $6 each for not huge servings, I dont know how often we will be back, but it was definitely an enjoyable experience. Dining area is small, beautiful, and a little too bright and echoy. I came back after trying 2 sips of this Taro tea for changing my drink and I asked them for changing to another one and they don't want to do it , for almost $8 . I was thrilled to be able to finally try the drinks here as it has come highly recommended to me by friends. I was definitely not disappointed! I wasn't really sure what to order, so my friend ordered for me, which ended up being the Pina Colada smoothie with Lychee jellies and the Bubbles (tapioca balls). It was so flavorful! I'd never had the jellies before, and I will definitely be trying the other flavors there. We had checked out already when I noticed they had mochi (which I absolutely love). I've been craving boba (tapioca pearls) and mango jelly for some time now but the thought of having to drive out to State Street then find street parking close enough to the tea bars there is enough to discourage me from going. (I'm from southern CA, so I'm willing to go to quite the distance for milk tea and boba, but I HATE street parking.) Enter Bambu. The parking and drive are great for my lazy butt. Their selection of teas and "fillings" are great. I got the hazelnut milk tea with tapioca and mango jellies and I'm one very happy customer. My husband got the lychee milk tea with the tapioca and mango jellies and it was good, but we agreed that after the first few sips of the lychee, the taste just became overwhelming for us. We enjoy lychee, but more as a food than a drink. We also bought the Bambu Special and Fruit Addict. The coconut water and meat is just delicious. Add in all the other yummies it comes it and it's a great and cooling treat! Bambu will definitely be getting more business from me! read more

For the guy who complained about the expensive "$6 drinks", honestly I think it's worth it. You get fresh ingredients, the portion fills you up, and good service. I had a few drinks, but my absolute favorite in the menu is the "Summer Delight Che". For those who don't know what "che" is, it's a common delicious Vietnamese jelly dessert. It's Vegetarian friendly because the jelly that's used is vegetarian based gelatin (agar-agar).
