Our family of 6 stopped by Bambu over the Labor Day weekend and were really impressed with the food and service we received at Bambu. I'm not usually a big fan of Kosher restaurants - they are overpriced and it feels like you are just paying for the Kosher certification (the food is nothing special) but we were meeting family friends here so we gave it a shot, and were really impressed with our meal here. For a Kosher restaurant the price point was reasonable - a little more expensive than a typical restaurant but not by much. Portion sizes were big and the plates were great for sharing family style for the table. We started with the wonton soup and it was a big hit. A few more people at the table had to order their own cup of soup after trying it because it was so good. We ordered the chicken gyozas, vegetable fried rice, chicken and vegetables, orange chicken, and the crispy beef noodles for the table and everyone shared. Every dish was unique and absolutely delicious. The food arrived fast which was great as well. Sometimes with large parties you have wait forever for all the food to be ready but for our table of 6 we waited maybe 15 mins before the food was ready. Everyone was happy! Service was excellent as well. They checked on our table regularly to make sure we had everything we needed, were very attentive, and friendly and made great recommendations for dishes to try. The restaurant itself had a great atmosphere. We really loved all the different colored umbrellas suspended from the ceiling it was a beautiful touch to the restaurant and looked like a work of art. So pretty and unique. All in all we really enjoyed our time and our meal at Bambu. Food was fresh and didn't leave you feeling heavy. Everyone enjoyed it, we will be back again for sure! read more

Here's a polished, fun review you could post: It's Father's Day, so we decided to order kosher Chinese food from Bambu in Boca. I'll admit... my expectations weren't very high, but wow, was I pleasantly surprised! The Crispy Beef is an absolute MUST! Hands down the best dish we ordered. The Chicken & Eggplant was delicious, the Mongolian Beef was full of flavor, and the Chicken Fried Rice was really good. It was a little light on veggies, but they definitely didn't skimp on the chicken. A special shoutout to the Crispy Noodles with Vegetables. I loved that they packed the sauce on the side, so the noodles stayed perfectly crunchy until we were ready to eat. Such a simple touch that made a big difference! We met friends here who have a vegan Kosher diet and experienced some really great food! This place is very popular and one of the very few Vegan Kosher restaurants around. RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST! My wife I shared an order of Tofu with mixed vegetables and white rice. This was a very large and generous serving with really great flavor and textures. We also enjoyed some delicious soup. This was rather a surprise. A kosher Chinese restaurant is an unusual combination, but one with good food? That's even rarer. We were meeting friends from Minnesota in town visiting family. They are kosher so each year, we let them choose where to meet and have an adventure trying a place that we wouldn't normally patronize. They had been here before and liked it. Luckily, they had made a reservation as this small restaurant was absolutely packed with people seated and dining and those waiting for a table. The wait time was 40 minutes. Kosher food is quite expensive especially the meat and poultry. And the menu prices reflected this. They give you crispy noodles to munch on while waiting for your food . They are very good. We started with soups -- a chicken wonton and a hot n sour. We then shared tofu with mixed vegetables. We really liked the entree. It was big enough to share with leftovers to take home. Our friends also got a vegetarian egg roll and an egg drop soup. They had the same entrees that we did. I'm so glad we tried this restaurant. Perhaps not *authentic* Chinese but reliable standbys like mushroom chicken with flavorful black mushrooms, hot and sour soup, and the best fried crunchies I've had anywhere. I had the Kung Pau Beef. There was no beef. It was a place full of fried batter. I called the waiter -- he agreed it's "disgusting", but "That's how they make it -- it's "shredded" beef". It was almost $40 and there wasn't any discernable meat in the entire dish. We didn't have a reservation and the place was crowded but they managed to seat us within 15 minutes. The food was delicious. We had the mixed dumpling platter and orange beef. We recenty went to dinner with some friends who keep kosher. They asked if we had any preferences and we deferred to them. Bambu is what they chose. Oh well, we Jews have survived for thousands of years because we're flexible and adaptable. We understood that there would be no pork or shrimp, and we were OK with that. There was plenty of beef and chicken on the menu, so I figured we could always find something. The place was over-lit and noisy, with the tables occupied by men with tsisis and kippot and women with costly sheitels. Asian phenotypes were scarce, except for the waiter, who was running around with too much to do and too little time and/or support. What we found was an over-priced, under-spiced simulacrum of Canonese-style dishes. If there was ever a case of failed cultural appropriation, this is it. But we and our friends tried to assemble a group of representative dishes. We started with "Hot and Sour" soup - for me a bellwether of the meal to come. This soup was not offensive, but the cook was apparently afraid to adequately spice it. A pastrami eggroll was a shonda and basically inedible. From plate to garbage without passing "GO." "Orange Beef" was a plate of over-cooked shards of what could have ben beef, but it was so overcooked, dry, burned, and under-spiced that it was impossible to tell. A dish of eggplant with garlic sauce came closest to acceptable. So here's what I realized: the reviewers who came before me and thought this deserved any more that one star, are unfamiliar with actual Chinese food of any region. The Orrthodox who frequent Bambu have never eaten actual Chninese food because there is simply no way for actual Chinese food of any region to be made absent char sieu and shellfish. So they have no basis for a meaningful comparison. One more thing, Ashkis are afraid of spice - everything needs to be bland so as to not excite the senses and lead to impure thoughts. Finally, about the cost: this joint ain't cheap, All kosher food carries a Frummy-tax - which is an extra cost added to cover the ripoff endemic in the kosher food industry. I'm guessing an upcharge of 25-30%, but am guessing. It may be more. The next time I want to eat a kosher meal, I'll go to Moskowitz & Lupowitz. read more

Tonight, I dined at Kosher BAMBU PAN ASIAN KITCHEN in Boca Raton. Although I'm not kosher, I often visit kosher restaurants in South Florida, and I was excited to try this one due to the rave reviews from friends. Upon arrival, I was promptly served tableside noodles, duck sauce, and a drink. The noodles had very little flavor, but the duck sauce was excellent. The soup, filled with vegetables and chicken, was pretty good, though the chicken wasn't very hot. For my appetizer, I had the pastrami egg roll and beef sticks. The beef sticks were chewy, while the pastrami egg roll was great but could have used more pastrami. I was surprised that, unlike other New York-style Chinese restaurants, there was no complimentary tea service. My main dish, honey chicken, was disappointing; it tasted like dark meat and was chewy and undercooked. A staff member agreed and replaced it with sesame chicken, which was slightly better but still disappointing for a $30 dish. Overall, the sauces and appetizers were great, but the meat quality could use improvement. I would definitely recommend the pastrami egg roll. Additionally, this place is more expensive than other similar restaurants in Boca Raton. Other restaurants at the same price point include soup, dessert, and tea, whereas these are additional charges here, along with an automatic 18% tip for any party size. I recommend exploring other kosher Chinese options in Boca Raton before trying this one. They include tea, soup, and dessert for the same price as a single entrée here. We were passing through on the way to Orlando and found this place and saw it had good ratings. The prices are super high for what you get and it was not good. The chicken shumai had the texture of rubber. Shumai is supposed to be soft. This was overcooked. We only ate one each. We ordered the honey garlic chicken to split. For $30, you get a moderate size portion, definitely not $30 worth of chicken. The chicken was tough and we couldn't even cut through it. We alerted our server and he did not seem surprised about our complaint. We asked for our check and it was higher than I calculated, so I asked to look at the screen. The shumai was $14.95 on the menu but was $16.95 on the screen. He got that changed and brought it back to us. I then noticed there was an 18% service charge. Was that for the tip? Was it for the restaurant? I had no clue. I left $26.10 (the total for four terrible shumai and two cans of coke) and we left to go find somewhere else to go. It seems like this place is new, so hopefully they figure out how to cook the food properly because they definitely missed the mark this time. read more

Compared with the alternative in Boca Raton Bambu is extraordinary, although on the somewhat expensive side, and a bit out of the way for West Boca residents. The menu is broad enough to satisfy most tastes, and the Hot and Sour Soup is the best I've ever tasted! The extensive dim sum offerings are also not to be missed. Newly redecorated, the ambiance is perfectly acceptable. My only quibble is a $5 charge for a pot of tea-bag tea and the fact that there are no desserts offered.
